Sylvan Ebanks-Blake believes his strike partnership with Andy Keogh is coming to the boil at just the right time to fire Wolves into the play-offs.
Both scored in last night’s 3-0 win over Cardiff to move Mick McCarthy’s side to within two points of sixth-placed Crystal Palace with six to play for.
Ebanks-Blake took his tally to 11 in 18 games since his £1.5m move from Plymouth while 11-goal Keogh has hit six of his nine Championship strikes since the arrival of the former Manchester United reserve.
“The partnership is beginning to gel,” said Ebanks-Blake. “Keogh is a very good player who works very hard and he’s worth his goals.
“It’s been brilliant and we need to keep pressing on now because there are still a couple of really important games.
“There’s definitely an understanding growing between us – he’s a very good player and I’m starting to learn the runs he likes to make.
“He’s starting to learn my game and as a partnership, I don’t think there’s anything better.
“We both scored last night, we’re both scoring and we’re really pleased.”
Ebanks-Blake believes Wolves have an extra weapon in their armoury to reach the play-offs – the versatility of their ‘front four’.
Last night’s victory saw Keogh interchange with right winger Michael Kightly, who himself switched with left-winger Matt Jarvis on occasions.
“Our attacking four or even six can interchange and play in different positions,” said Ebanks-Blake.
“Keogh can go out wide, Kightly, Jarvis and Stephen Ward can come inside and that definitely makes a difference because it makes the opposition think a bit.
“We did that to great effect last night – you saw ‘Kites’ come through the middle and score a goal which shows the versatility in the team.
“It’s a case of taking it step by step for him. He had a bad injury and I know what it’s like to have a bad injury so it’s not a case of putting all the pressure on him.
“But I was delighted for him – he got an hour and a goal and he can only be better for it.”

It is looking a very good partnership! Maybe Keoghs doubters can see why he starts ahead of Freddy. Mainly, because he is more involved, harder worker, brings others in to the game, good headerer of the ball and just generally better player. Him and SEB compliment eachother well.
Onwards and Upwards. Is it too late?
Come on,lets get out of this league now cos it’s gonna be tough next year with Derby,Fulham,Blues etc.Sheff Utd improving.Hull,AAAAGH Let’s get up now while we can, then spend Morgans millions.
so even seb dosent think freedie has a future with wolves as he failed to even mention him but included the “ledgend” steven ward
Definately the making of a good partnership - and with your other attacking players you should score plenty of goals…..
However (you knew there was one coming…) IF you fail to make the playoffs this year it could all be too late - you will do well to hang onto your star players - there are already prem teams sniffing around PLUS the three teams that go up with money in their pockets.
But last nights win still gives you a decent chance to get into the top 6.
KEOOOGHHHHHHH!
Dare I say it, I can see these two growing into the boots of Bully and Mutch.
Keogh, although not a great goalscorer, gets a few and creates a hell of a lot. You only have to look at his partnership with Billy Sharp to see that.
Once Freddy is gone, I’m sure everyone will stop barracking Keogh and get behind him as they did before Mr Eastwood’s arrival.
Eastwood is a player of undoubted talent. However, for whatever reason, he is not played. Whilst he is not being played, he is more of a nuisance than a positive influence. His presence is causing the fans to grow frustrated and abuse players such as Keogh and Collins.
GET OVER IT!!!
And Sylvan…what can I say about him? The man is a machine! He looks like he’s going to score every time he gets the ball.
I think all we need now are a couple of defenders, and a creative midfielder.
2 -
If we go up this season we’ll end up being the same as derby have this season. No amoung of millions can gel a squad that’s needed to stay in the prem.
I dont think any of us want to pay a lot of our hard earned cash to watch us get spanked home and away.
We need MM out, and a fresh start with a new boss, and a rebuilt squad.
We havent been good enough this year, and going up would be detremental to the club.
Does Mr Morgan not speak? The fans need to hear what he’s got to say!!!!
We have a good chance of the play offs. I am not convinced Palace will slip up but I am looking at Watford and our goal difference.
They are on a big wobble at the mo.
pointless tryin 2 keep players who wish 2 leave, best 2 thank then 4 what they did and move on, however my only worry would be that, would any new signings be put off by the treatment of fredie?, be you for him or against him there is no way that he has been given a fair opportunity compaired to some who are not fit 2 wear the shirt
SORRY NO:6-ITS A INSULT TO A.MUTCH-HE WAS A MUCH BETTER PLAYER THAN KEOGH.PEOPLE TALK ABOUT KEOGH AS BEING A COMPLETE PLAYER-I THINK HE HAS REACHED HIS LEVEL.
4 Happy - yes, if we don’t get promoted we will do really well to keep hold of our 3 best players but you can’t honestly think we would sell any of those players to any of the teams that get promoted, least of all Albion!!!! If you do then you are living in cucku land!
Nathan - It would be hard for wolves to sell a player to albion - but moves between our two clubs are not unheard of - i think we off loaded some young strikers to you once…. and then there is Don Goodman and probably a few others, so don’t rule it out.
As for the other teams to go up (if not wolves) - then they will be looking for good players who want to step into the prem - and wolves will certainly be getting a few calls.
Sorry pal, but the cuckoo, like the fat lady, is getting ready to sing.
HOLD ON..We have one good game and its the next BULLY AND MUTCH..IF there so good together where were they aginst,Ipswitch,Albion,Bristol city etc??SEB is awesome and will score alll day,but Keogh has one good and three bad games in afraid.
dont understand the flack keogh gets, we all know he cant hit a cows bottom with a banjo half the time but he trys and its obvious that SEB prefers to play with him (hayles used to do the donkey work for him at plymouth)because of his relentless will to chase a ball, and to play others in rather than go himself.
mind you all those slagging Keogh off are probably the same people who voted for henri camara (two left feet) as player of season instead of alex rae!!
yes, yes, yes i know freddy is the messiah, so not going to start him, for some reason certain wolves fans love him, for his 3goals in 3 games against sheff wed,blackpool….. yet missed a penalty against ipswich and has been poor every since….. “but he aint been given a chance” i hear you cry. neither has stack but you aint calling for him to be goal!!!
simple as this front two are scoring so they play. END OF!!!
7. Rob, no Mr. Morgan does not speak. He said as much upon his arrival. He’s going to be a man of action rather than words, and if McCarthy is still here come next year, then don’t take that as inaction, but he’s made his decison and will stick by it.
Wolves 105, can’t agree with you on that, Mutch was older than Keough by the time he got to this level, I think Keough has still got time to improve. He’s scored 11 goals this season and hasn’t played a full season, and was recovering/playing with an injury for part of it.
It’s a shame all 4 haven’t been together longer, thay do need quality cover though.
SUPER, SUPER MICK! SUPER, SUPER MICK!
SUPER, SUPER MICK! SUPER MICK McCARTHY!
Good win wolves, thats put pressure on palace at hull on saturday a draw or win and we are up.BOING BOING GOING UP IN STYLE.
16) What is actually Super about him?
worcester_wolf your white stick or your labrador isnt on this page either.
14. If only people could see such an obvious argument. We have the best partnership playing week in week out yet people still call for the individual who fits into no system to be playing.
I’m in full agreement with you, I certainly didn’t see anything so special in him playing at the begging of the season to warrant this worship. Perhaps its the easy name to chant.
I never said Keogh was at the same level as Mutch…I said he has the potential to grow into the same sort of role.
There will never be another Bully and Mutch. SEB, for all his goalscoring qualities, will never be Steve Bull, but it doesn’t mean to say that he can’t make himself a Molineux hero
7 - Rob, how can you say we need to rebuild when we’re still building at the moment?! After the last few seasons, especially the situation we were in when Hoddle left, we need stability and consistancy… this is only MCarthy’s second season and the players he’s brought in are only going to get better. We know we’ve got a good squad and it bugs me when people criticise players that last season were having their praises sang 24/7 like Collins (with his partnership with Edwards), S.Ward upfront with Keogh, Breen with a low drone everytime he won the ball cleverly (which was and is extremely regularly).
It was a great 3-0 win last night… it wasn’t the most entertaining game but another clean sheet (congrats to Hennessey on beating Murray’s season record… some good saves to earn it too), 3 goals, Kightly starting, both strikers getting a goal.
Behind you all the way Mick… Up the Wolves!!
22
so the likes of the wards, elliot, breen, collins are only gonna get better???????
Calm down dear….it was only Cardiff
qualitycounts….Why don’t you and your anti MM cronies go and find another team/manager to slag. Your negativity is simply BORING. Get a life, MM is staying so you have a choice. Support the whole team or go. Personally, I’d rather it be the latter.
play the liqiudator !!!!!!!!!
I can understand some fans thinking on here that some of our players are young and still learning but will improve…. Wards, Elliot, Collins. The problem is that every player has a plateau, a point they reach where they cannot advance any further. I personally believe these players are at their peak or are very near to hitting it so will not advance the club as a whole. I also believe that players like Collins are confidence players and this guy is out of his depth. With a better manager he may be able to keep his head above water but I get the feeling MM’s way of keeping his confidence up is by playing him week in, week out allowing him to get turned over and booed by a minority rather than giving him a rest and getting his head right. I said in another thread that if you watch him you can tell he second guesses himself when making decisions on the ball which is a bad sign. It may sound stupid but MM’s determination to play below par players will be harming them rather than helping them mentally
23
Certainly Ward and Collins can improve, which is not to say they definitely will. I can remember a young gangly centreback at Arsenal whom people referred to as a donkey becoming a world class player and captain of England. Young players may develop and attain confidence, which, imo, needs nurturing. But they have to be given the chance.
Mick McBroken record most of the season…you kinda get fed up of the excuses really. Poor man management doesn’t help.I think MM understands the game very well but finds confrontation a valuable method of man motivation..which its not!
Yes there have been injuries notable ones, but a squad with depth we have should be able to fire on all cylinders most of the time, particularly in the division no-one has wanted to win…I look back at Barnsley away and a poor points haul over christmas…these are must wins really if you’re serious about promotion.
22 you need to get out a little bit more,
S Ward must be the one of the crap players you have ever signed,I beleive your leader put him on last night, this lad must have something on Mad MM
oold gold stop pinching our song, you have already got villas hi ho.
number 6!! well done mate i totally agree with you, but i dont kno about collins i think he just has such rubbish decsion makings and mcarthy only uses him for set pieces!
eastwoods to lazy and i dont know how he is such a fans favorite. keough is the main man amd ebanks is just another level!!
up the wolves!!
Palace Just need one draw from either of their next two games. So i cant see Morgan falling for any of that.
We have 5 or 6 class players. A good starting point for next season, but to get the best out of a team you really have to have someone in charge who is a great tactician and motivator
in mick we have neither
3 new faces at the back and a shiny new manager please Mr Morgan
mick was given 3yrs to to take us to the prem and has had 2yrs so far .the first year totally over achieving as nobody in there wildest dreams would of said we’d get a playoff place so the 2nd yr is by consideration a let down ever though we could still get a playoff place (have we been beat 6 nil at home this year)!!! due to our previous kneejerk sackings he’ll be here for the foreseeable future unless we have a nightmare couple of months at start of the next season. if that happens then dont be surprised if ince comes to us !i have it on very good authority that morgan and ince are good friends, neighbours and regulary play golf together on morgans course ? the same source has told me that freddy is not liked because he continually doesnt put the effort in at training, argumentative and swans around as if he owns the place, hence no place in starting line up !!
too little, too late!
a dreadful season.
no.27 who are you talking about
Good no mention of Freddy, good, get rid I say. No fault of his own but he will never be any good for us.
Great team performance, let’s hope Dave Moyes who was in the stand with his cheque book and shopping trolley doesn’t wave the money under you know who’s nose and break the team up. Seb, Kites,Henn will fit nicely on the Everton managers shopping list, have we become a Toffee’s feeder club overnight.Secondly rumour has it a well known group of monied travelling folk cancelled their executive box recently on account of their inside knowledge as to the imminent departure of Clint’s son Freddie. So cancel him from your thinking. Our team appear to be not the only one’s Coventry bound.
Sylvan is certainly complimenting Andy in this article. Don’t know whether Andy has been complimenting Sylvan, but they certainly complement each other. A pretty complete partnership in fact. (Yes I know, sad git, get a life, blah blah blah).
Seriously, I think SEB is the best thing that has happened to Wolves for ages. He reminds me of John Richards. His goal against Ipswich was a dead ringer for one Richards got against Liverpool years ago. His ability to trap the ball, turn, shoot and score is a real breath of fresh air.
ALL US SHOULD TAKE GOLD AND BLACK SCARVES AND SING OUR HEARTS OUT AT THE COVENTRY MATCH, LETS SHOW THEM SOME PROPER FANS!!
AS EASTWOOD WAS CLOSE TO MOVING TO COVENTRY, WHO REKONS HE’LL COME ON AND SCORE???
It may be a good partnership now but it’ll be broken up next month when SEB is sold
No Ryan Wolf you are wrong.
The cracks appeared when Mick was given EXACTLY what he asked for, and then couldnt deliver.
If we claim (and i wont argue it) that season 1 was a huge over-achieve, then we have to by definition claim this one to be a huge under-achieve.
You are only as good as your last performance.
May I ask you, and all the other pro-muppets, what exactly you see Mick doing differently next year ?
Still relying on Elliot as backup for SEB, Breen and co at the back - you know this half-wit ay getting rid of breeny.
No, he will not change a single tactic, nor ever admit that we are absolute rubbish at the back. His method of handling Player unrest, is to ridicule them in the media. His method of dealing with fan unrest is to mock the fans.
I dont want to argue with fellow Wolves fans day in day out (dont give me the i dont go to every game carp - I live in London FFS) but not one single pro-muppet has come on here telling us what thay think he IS ACTUALLY GOOD AT.
You keep on harping on about his first season in charge, when the youngsters at the club, and the MAGICAL Kightly, produced something quite special. But he’s proven, when given a budget, he is clueless.
Cannot man manage, cannot motivate, cannot compete at this level. Some chap mentioned it earlier, he should be at a League1 or 2 club and Im quite sure he would excel there.
Quit the jibes, the aggro, the in-fighting and ask yourself if mick mccarthy is really what we need at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
If automatic is to be the target next season, then we will need to brush aside Fulham, Derby even Bolton, as well as the contestors that dont go up this time round. We may have SEBBO knocking em in now, but who do we have as cover if, and Im sure he will, Freddy leaves in the summer ? Elliot, Kyle, LMFAO ? What about our defence?
stewart who do you support ? it cant be wolves for you do nothing but tear the team to pieces. you and wolveswolves must be wba supporters for you certainly do not support wolves
Now now baggie 9 (31) that is a WOLVES song my friend. Think you may need to get your own song and realise you were a few months too late to call it a “tesco” song!
Happy, don’t forget Cyril. As a Baggie legend I thought he would get a load of abuse but we took to him straight away. He will always be remembered mainly as a Baggie but we liked him too.
33.admant.what school did you go to? palace need a win and a draw as as they are only 2 points in front of us with 6 to play for(and they have to play hull who are gunning for automatic)so they will need 4 points . also watford are only 3 points ahead and not much in the goal difference that a handsome win at coventry wont put right COME ON YOU WOLVES! LETS TRY AND WIN EM BOTH AND SEE WHERE WE END UP.looking forward to going to coventry on saturday.THE LEFT SIDE!
Great partnership, the goals are coming !
But how long when Ward gets back on the wing
42# Ad Mant
Everyone knows Mick has made some mistakes this season signing overrated Eastwood for starters.
You call him stubborn for not listening to the fans but if did let the fans influence the team you would call him weak…
To say the man is not up to championship levels shows how short sighted you are. He has managed in the world cup for start also got Sunderland promoted you silly man Ad Mant. B4 you say it, he wasn’t given any money in the prem.
They are a young squad and the things this club needs at the moment are as follows:
- Support from the fans
- Stability
- None of this stupid booing
- Stop chanting Freddy, he is lazy, overrated at obviously not like by the rest of the team.
We still can go up so stick by the team and that’s all I have to say about that…
Question for the genuine Wolves football supporters who discuss and understand the game ,Southbank and the other children this is not petty so you will be a little out of your depth and it also involves maths calculations. Now that the Wolves seem to have found a goal scoring partnership in SB and Keough , can someone tell me in the amount of games they have played together in, the goals they have scored and points gained in that period..what would have been your goals scored and points total if calculated through this Season if that partnership had been in place from the start.
Admant, You said, “…You are only as good as your last performance….” WELL…….. our last performance was a 3-0 win against Cardiff, who were in the play-off hunt until recently, and have a Wembley date upcoming. That makes Mick an excellent manager then, doesn’t it? (You can say Cardiff had one eye on wembley, but there are plenty of places for the final that are not cemented in. They all have to play for a place in the Final.)
IF we go up, I hope you and your fellow Mick-Knockers won’t join the clamour for season tickets next season. (That is if you are a watcher, and not an armchair fan. I am not saying you are, I am just saying IF.)
We may not get up this season, but if not I would still give MM until Christmas to see where we are at that stage.
2. Forgot about morgans “millions” ha ha what a loff that is.. we’ll have double what you have with no scouse lovin sugar daddy!!! Anyway i hear he wants to buy out 1 yank of liverpool!!! High and dry comes to mind!! Bring back the battys.. or we could buy you as a feeder club!!! Brilliant.
I agree with Ad Mant(42), MM will not change a thing for next season. His decisions and judgement of players (ward, elliot?)above talented players is what cost us this season, a moment of magic in each game win matches, I wouldn’t give a toss if someone looks lazy, just as long as he scores when it matters, likes of stan collymore come to mind. These are the type of players that get you out of this league, not the ‘put in a shift’ average players. that is why MM is a 2nd rated manager, not having the belief in players ability rather than their endeavour
Dublin the liqiudater was and allways will will be an albion song I was there around 1969 and the words was we hate vila wolves come later.villa was the big derby then.
Sure, sure there baggie 9……. anyway apparantly the song was first played at Chelsea, but they have no words to it and just play the music! Its a great song and makes a great atmosphere for both clubs i am sure you will agree!
49 London Baggie: Answer to your question, since ebanks blake arrived Blake/Keogh have played together 11 games, (2 of Keogh came on at half time as Sub) they have scored 13 goals, and the team have got 19 points (out of 33). Not bad is it?? So over what is now 44 games, it would be 39 goals between the 2 and 76 points (in theory of course!) that would put us 2nd and 1 point behind yourselves!
