Money denies any cash row

Jeff Bonser and Richard MoneyFormer Walsall boss Richard Money has denied speculation that a disagreement over budgets led to his resignation.

Money said last week that he was ‘seeking assurances’ from the board over the playing budget at the club before committing his future to Walsall and with his departure coming barely a week later, some fans have concluded that the assurances were not forthcoming, which Money vehemently denies.

“I genuinely feel that it’s the right decision for everyone,” Money said.

“I think it’s the right decision for the club going forward, which is the most important thing in all of it and there’s nothing more sinister than that.

“I know that people will think that the chairman and I have had a big falling out, but nothing could be further from the truth.

“I’ve had a fantastic relationship with him for two years and with the board and everyone at the club and I’d like to think that would continue in the future.

“I know that people will want to try and look further, but there is nothing else.

“This has got nothing to do with budgets or ambition or anything of that nature.

“It’s a decision that I’ve made and I’m very proud of what we achieved at Walsall for two years and I don’t want anything to sour that.”

The timing of Money’s departure, which comes with two matches of the season remaining, has fuelled speculation that he could be back in another managerial hotseat in the near future, but Money says such suggestions are entirely without foundation.

“I’m sure the cynical people out there will think that I left because I’ve got a job lined up, but that couldn’t be further from the truth,” he said.

“I know that football is a very precarious vocation.

“There are a lot of managers out of work and I certainly don’t think it’s going to be easy to find another job and really all I’m thinking about at this moment in time is where I’m going to go for a couple of weeks to get some sun and some recuperation.”

As an outsider so to speak, this seems like total lack of ambition by the Walsall board

How strange? This is the same man who said only a few days earlier that he was going nowhere. What’s changed in the last couple of days? It all seems too amicable to me. Not about finance, ambition, full support of the board. Is DD gracefully departing as he realises we’re going to be in enough trouble without the fans turning thier backs on the club. To me the decision has to be financia/ambitious driven.

Nothing to do with the playing budget? I always took what Dicky Dosh said to the Press with a huge pinch if salt and this shows why.

Well if it wasn’t a clash over next season’s budget and you haven’t got a job to go to; then why would you throw 2 years wages away Mr Money? Principles? Don’t make me laugh! That’s a redundant word when it comes to football. I’m not mourning your passing as it has been blindly obvious for some months that you were going but couldn’t you at least tell us the truth as to why? Walsall supporters are all mushrooms ie. we’re kept in the dark and fed s**t.

The phrase “well he would say that” comes to mind. DD could see the mess we’re going to be in next season ie no money, no players & no ambition and left. Untill we get rid of Bonser we’re going to have the same story year in year out. GET BONSER OUT.

Richard Money took the club as far as he could on the same shoestring that hung Ray Graydon. It is time for Jeff Bonser to move on he also has to recognise he has took the club as far as he can.

I think Money has left both because no money for squad for next season but has also has a job lined up. If he’d been given a real budget I think he may well have wanted to stay.
On the Bonser fron all the Bonser out people are forgetting one minor detail, novbody has come forward to buy the club therefore Bonser cannot just up and leave as he owns the flippin club…..solution maybe get Pete Waterman, the Bob guy from Central news to buy the club or get a fans consortium as this is the only way you will get rid of Bonser I am afraid. We will always be a mediocre club I am sorry to say as a Saddlers supporter, we are unfortunately in the shadows of near Big clubs!!

Come on DD. Time for a little bit of honesty here. You hinted a couple of weeks ago that you were going to seek “reassurances from the board”. Now you walk away with 2 games to go. I think it is quite obvious, to all and sundry, despite what you say, that you did not get those reassurances. I, along with the majority of the Walsall fans have supported you all the way, but I think we deserve a little bit better than the c**p that has been fed to us regarding your departure from the club. Perhaps being told that Bradley was the next youngster to leave in the summer for a bigger club, for sizeable money, may have had a bearing. West Brom perhaps.
