For all the toil and endeavor the Wolves showed on Saturday against Ipswich, that real cutting edge quality wasn’t there and really hasn’t been there for the majority of this campaign, writes blogger Nathan Lloyd.
When the fans and media start using phrases like ‘mathematically possible’, you know that in your heart of hearts that the season is as good as over. Ok, if we beat the Bluebirds tonight then it will leave us 2 points off Palace and that coveted sixth spot, but with an inferior goal difference.
We will then need to beat a revitalized Coventry side that put 5 past Colchester at the weekend and who are still not ‘mathematically’ safe from relegation themselves and then beat a Plymouth side who admittedly have nothing left to play for. Oh and then we also need for Palace to lose one of their two remaining fixtures, easy really.
Saturday was frustrating before we even kicked off. As the teams were announced over the dilapidated sound system in the Steve Bull Stand, I could sense that the Wolves crowd were as bemused as I was by Mick’s decision to leave Freddy out completely. I can only presume that Mick has found the constant Freddy chants to be an unwanted distraction to the players on the pitch. I could be wrong, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we never see him in a Wolves shirt again.
It was great to see David Edwards back in the starting XI and then equally sad to see him trudge off with a knee injury early into the game. What was also alarming was that Mick didn’t have a single central midfielder on the bench. Admittedly, Gibson had a howler against the Albion, but I would have expected to have at least seen him named as substitute. Breen came on and Mick shuffled the pack and I thought Foley coped admirably with his central midfield role.
I know I’m probably Neill Collins fiercest critic and I don’t think he would ever buy me a drink, but his performance against Ipswich has to rank as one of most inept I have seen in a Wolves shirt. After he almost managed to turn himself inside out against the Baggies, I would have taken him out of the firing line and returned old faithful Breen back into the centre of defence to partner Jody against Ipswich.
Neill wasn’t alone against Ipswich. I thought Olofinjana was next to useless and Keogh was anonymous and never got into the game.
Nice to see SEB score again though and whip off his top to almost scream, “SEE, I TOLD YOU I WASN’T FAT”, to all the fans who wrongly thought that SEB was hiding the body of Micky Quinn under that Wolves shirt.
Whether or not the cruel free-kick that Ipswich scored at the end should have been given or not, who knows. The replays suggest that there was a slight nudge in the back from Breen, who didn’t complain at the award. It was excellently taken by Miller, leaving Hennessey completely flat footed. We had chances to wrap the game up though and things like that are bound to happen when you are nervously protecting a narrow lead.
Cracking to see Kightly back, who will probably be starting tonight. I’m sure if he had been fit we would be in a much healthy league position than we are, but with such a poor central midfield for most of the season and a shambolic state of affairs at the back, I doubt we would have ever been challenging for a top 2 spot.
Perhaps now isn’t the time to start analysing the season. I’ll keep my opinions tempered until the season concludes.
Although Cardiff are ‘mathematically’ in with a shout for a play-off spot, I’m sure they probably realise that there league season is also as good as over. What Dave Jones has pointed out to his squad is that they have 3 league games to stake their claim for a starting place at Wembley against Pompey on May 17th.
So, if we are to cling on to that last shred of hope that we could miraculously find ourselves in the top 6 at 4pm on Sunday 4th May, we need to beat Cardiff tonight. Hopefully the Bluebird’s minds will still be dreaming about that trip to a foreign country’s capital and will be more than happy to gift us the three points. In the real world we will probably all have to endure another nervy spectacle.
Sorry for sounding so dreary. I think I am beginning to realise the reality of a season that promised so much but as delivered very little.
Good luck to the boys tonight.

I agree that a lot of things has made this season to a disappointing one. But let’s hope we can turn i around in the end and reach the play offs.
Myself, and many other Swedwolves are confused at the comments from England about the set peace situations when Wolves concedes goals.
Firstly about the set up at corners. With a man at each post Wolves could have hindered several balls to reach the net this season.
Secondly many conceded goals are looked upon as not being able to prevent. The goalies position inte the goal is of the utmost importence.
The freekick against Ipswich saturday fits that description. Hennessey would be able to take it if he had only been placed right from the beginning. It is clearly visible on the videos. He should guard the part of the goal that the wall is not.
I’m much more confident that we will take three points in tonights match than you though.
UP THE WOLVES!!! HAVE FAITH!!!
hi nathan..frustrating is an understatement for this season. agree about eastwood..never see him play for wolves again..DID WE EVER REALLY SEE HIM TO BEGIN WITH?. as for the play offs..forget it mate, i fully expect cardiff to wrap our season up tonight, we’re nowhere near good enough and don’t deserve a top 6 finish.
now time to get down to the real business for this embarrassment of a season..MCARTHY OUT!! BY THE NEAREST AVAILABLE EXIT..A.S.A.P the squad needs a total rebuild..we all know who deserves to stay..we all know the majority who must also go..one of the biggest squads in the division..WITH MORE DEADWOOD THAN CANNOCK CHASE.
MUPPET HAD HIS CHANCE..BACKING FROM THE BOARD..STRONG SUPPORT FROM THE FANS..BUT FOR WHATEVER REASONS (KNOWN ONLY TO HIM) HE HAS DESTROYED EVERYTHING GOOD THAT HE ACHIEVED LAST SEASON. WE ARE NOW..NO FURTHER FORWARD THAN WHEN HODDLE WALKED OUT.
as for tonights game..WOLVES 1 CARDIFF 3 and how ironic that the final nail of this season will be driven in by..THE BEST MANAGER WOLVES HAVE HAD IN THE LAST DECADE..DAVEY JONES..what wouldn’t we give to have dave back.
I do enjoy the odd conspiracy theory.
It does appear that Mick has made some quite monumental cockups regarding man-management and team selections this year. While purposely, trying to annoy the faithful and seemingly, deliberately extinguishing the creativity and vigor of last years campaign.
The Gordon Brown of football.
A fair assessment Nathan. Another painful display lacking any real guile, penetration and class. Calamity Collins a joke as usual and the highly energetic but disappointingly ineffective Keogh leaving us scratching our heads as to why Freddie has been constantly denied a place in this very average side. Has the reasoning behind King Freddie’s exclusion been revealed? I like you feel this is probably the last we have seen of him, a player we know will go on to prove the manager totally wrong and probably to the detriment of our beloved Wolves.
Come on Wolves tonight it really is last chance saloon time!
I have long been baffled by McCarthy’s team selections. On the occassions Eastwood has come on as sub - he has looked a class above most of the others. Maybe McCarthy is frightened that he will be shown up as a fool if he gave Freddy a run in the side and it resulted in success !! I have a feeling he has shot himself in the foot with his unwavering loyalty to those that maybe dont quite deserve that blind faith. Im talking of Breen, Henry, S Ward, Elliott, Collins - nearly half a team there !! If Eastwood, Bothroyd, Rosa, D Ward and Daniel Jones got just a taste of that misguided loyalty - we may have been looking at a better season. I disagree with one thing Nathan - I think now is exactly the right time to look at this season and plan for next. We know we will be in the Championship so lets start early and think about replacements. Come on Wolves !!
Nathan i thought you would be one of the first to understand why super mick left Freddy out, your description of Freddy is,( RUBBISH,LAZY,OVER RATED,AND DOESNT WANT TO PLAY FOR THE CLUB)why would you expect him to pick a player like that..I think your comments will come back and bite you on your bum..Freddy Eastwood is class,,he will score goals, sadly not for us as long as we have super mick, iff he is put up for sale there will be no shortage of takers..A free scoring international cant even get a place on our bench,,are we so good,,,I will remind you of your comments about Freddy in the future Nathan, hope you are big enough to admit you were wrong…
couldn’t believe against ipswich….
1. freddy was not named as a sub?
2. free kick in last minute and no one was on the posts to help defend the free kick
yet more bemusing desisions from mick mccarthy
im not one of the idiots who scream for freddy when he’s not even on the bench but i thought his endevour the last few matches he put in when coming on as a sub warranted his place on the bench
i still say mr morgan needs to act at the end of the season and overhaul wolves
we need a few players of premier class to add to the squad next year, its ok buying young lower league players but they lack the experience,we are where we are in the league because we do not deserve to go up this season
sorry but i would still like to see paul ince brought in as manager next season
As a fan who started following “the wolves” when Edward heath was Prime Minister, I have to say over the last 34 years, Seasons that fizzle out are very common place. We haven’t realy moved forward since our return to the second division (the season in the prem excepted) under Turner. The whole struture of OUR football club needs to be changed from Moxey down to the girl on the ticket line (i thought she was quite rude) The club doesn’t seem to have any passion at the moment. It ambles from one game to the next in hope, not expectation
Forget it , its over for this season as usual we are all clinging to straws. God knows why I paid my Early Bird withh MM still here.
I thought Hoddle was on a different planet at times but MM is definitely living in another time warp.
All he had to do at the beginning of the season was get a couple of sound defenders and a couple of good strikers, he had the rest bang to rights including the fans behind him.
Well we all know what happened brings in muppets Ward & Elliott (what a waste of money)
Will we ever know why a 20+ goalscorer can’t get in a team that can’t score?
Will we ever know why McIndoe left ? and I’ve heard all sorts
Will we ever understand his constant bizaare team selections and favouritism ??
With Eastwood & Potter missing from Saturday’s selection I rest my case
south bank barmy army, your post says it all, i just wonder if any of those MM lovers have now seen the light?? MM OUT NOW.
have to agree with your comments nathan, this has been a very very poor season! I think wolves could easily have gone up if MM had played his cards slightly different…ifs, buts and maybes..
Next season is going to be very difficult, derby, qpr spending big, fulham/reading/birmingham…??? we need to do some major work on the team and the backroom staff if we are going to have any chance, and sooner rather than later…
Don’t get me wrong im am very baffled by mick and at the end of the season i think we should give him a good send off for rebuilding us last season cause it could of been terrible. saying that, if….we beat cardiff tonight we are 2 points off 6th and palace are away at hull on saturday and hull have a full house and need to win. we go to cov who are very unpredictable but unbeatable.also watford are awful i can see them getting beat again in the last 2 games, if we get 7 points we will be in the play offs. as its make or break drop collins, drop foley, play breen and little. lets have a go at them! its not over yet….believe.
6 Pedro - you are getting me mixed up with the blogger and I am not!!!!
Nathan Lloyd(blogger) is a Freddy fan by all accounts, I am not!! I stand by my comments and think the sooner we ship Freddy out the better for Wolves! That is not to say I agree with all of MM’s decisions that’s for sure!
He gave Stephen Ward a new contract, that has absolutely baffled me, he should go with Freddy!
Going back to the blog - I agree that the moment you start talking about mathematically possible, your season is practically over and are relying on others to slip up! I am now resigned to another season in the championship (although I hope i’m wrong).
I just hope Steve Morgan comes out soon and issues a “war plan” for next season to get us in the prem. He has been sitting pretty in his ivory tower for too long now saying nothing and watching the world go by. Come on SM, say what your feeling!!!!
Sad to say but it has all been down hill since the opening match of the season against Watford, a match we all believed would be the start of a successful season. How wrong we were.
The often baffling team selections of Mick McCarthy coupled with his apparent disregard of any form of public relatinos to the paying public and his outrageous treatment of certain players has not endeared him to many of the Molineux faithful.
I am not for one minute suggesting that Steve Morgan reads this web-site, but I would hazard a guess that someone working for him does and passes back the current mood from the Molineux faithful.
I don’t believe that Mick will be here next season, but equally I do not for one minute believe that Steve Morgan would come out publicly and state this fact. The axe will fall shortly I feel and this sorry episode may soon be over.
To be honest the sooner Mick takes his rightful place on the Football Focus seat on a Saturday afternoon and leaves our club to its own devices the better.
Nathan about spot on. What angers me is the lack of man management Mick has, we will never know the real reason why Freddy was dropped, then what about all the young lads from last season who have been loaned out to other clubs, who have had rave reviews been recalled then take no part in a team not playing very well. Look at Rosa in reserves scores a goal a game from central midfield Mick talks of him being MODEL PRO but then says he not a player for us, yes our midfield is so good.
Football is all about confidence if its high your team plays well scores goals defends well, just look how Newcastle season has turned round, Keegan not the greatest manager but he builds confidence in players treats them with respect talks positively but not so much so by putting near impossible demands on players. We have a win an Mad Mick goes on about top two finnish then states he never looks at table, in reality we were 12 points off!
The bottom line is Mick has to go, we need up an coming manager, but I dont think Paul Ince will come or be even asked, too many bridges burned.
Great Blog Nath!!!
We have one foot in the prem and i hope you join us, i think you can catch Palace, but you need to win tonight. I totally agree about Collins, when ever i have seen him he looks prone to errors.
I think the difference has been Kites, his creativity has been greatly missed and with nobody else to replace him you have lacked that bit of quality in the final third. You have some really good players (Hens,Craddock,Kites,Jarvis,SEB) but they seem to be in a mix of some inconsistent performers, (Collins, Oli, Keough).
If there really is a load of money to throw at the team, i am amazed Mick did not sign a creative central midfielder.
All the best for tonight.
Im so anoyed to be a wolves fans atm! we are constantly failing and we have supporters who drive me insane! Ive just been on a wolves forum n the amount of people who have moaned about freddy, moaned about rosa, moaned about davies n best of all moaned about mcCarthy. Everyone is boring me to death keep talking about these same PEOPLE! I heard someone say if we had playd eastwood upfront against w.b.a we would have won. In my apinion, we may have done better but in the end they were just to good so everyone who is moaning get OVER IT!!
6. Pedro Enrique
I am little baffled Pedro. I’ve done nothing but support Freddy’s cause all season. The guy is obvious class and the fact that below average players such as Kyle or Elliott start ahead of him is beyond me.
I have never said, to quote you… ( RUBBISH,LAZY,OVER RATED,AND DOESNT WANT TO PLAY FOR THE CLUB). I think you may have the wrong Nathan. Freddy will no doubt leave us in the summer and go on to be the big success he deserves. Mick and Freddy obviously don’t get on, but it’s disgusting that conflict has a bearing as to who plays and who doesn’t.
We have some quality in the squad with Hennessey, Foley, Craddock, Jarvis, Kightly, SEB and Freddy. Unfortunately the rest are not up to the grade.
Anyway Pedro, argue all you like with the points I raise, but please don’t misquote me, especially when it comes to the Freddy debacle. I’ll be as gutted as the majority of fans when he leaves in the summer.
Living in Dubai makes it difficult to attend matches, so I can only comment from afar. However, I have little doubt McCarthy lost the plot months ago. At the start of the season, it was he who said the chairman would accept nothing more than automatic promotion. Following a dismal campaign, it’s unlikely we’ll even make the playoffs. No doubt Mick performed miracles in his first season but has proved himself tactically inept this time round. To make matters worse, the retired centre back has failed to improve the faltering defence, with Collins constantly barracked for terrible displays. He then has the nerve to describe supporters as ‘nuggets’, clearly highlighting his arrogance. It’s time for someone else to take charge and I just hope Morgan already has someone in mind. Up the Wolves.
Sadly the facts speak for themselves, i have not once said MM should go or shouted Freddy at a game but the time is getting close.
I want the club to explain there position in relation to buying players. The propaganda merchants at the club have convinced most of you that youth is the answer to all our prayes but it isn’t quality is and we havn’t brought any recognised established quality until perhaps SEB who at least had a track record.
All the people who support or dont support Freddy we’ll never know because he never had a run in the team. We signed K Kyle instead.
Tonight is all set up for Dave Jones to come to Molineux and end our chances of the play-offs, I have so far decided against looking at the manager, however the time is right and if we lose tonight he must go tomorrow morning! Paul Ince to get the job. Just on the subject great blog, very good facts.
Here are some reasons why McCarthy should go!
1) Thinks George is the best centre midfielder in the country when really he is the most overated player in recent seasons.
2) to many square pegs in round holes!
3) Andy Keogh, hard worker but not good enough for wolves!
4) His failure to sort out the problems of last season, lack of pace in back four.
5) Man Management skills
6) Stubbuness
7) Freddy Eastwood
Thats just for starters, what you boys think!
That McCarthy and his team are not good enough is obvious!
I am really starting to worry that he may be back again next season though. If he is, then for me it would be the clearest statement of ambition from the club to date!
Anyway, big big game tonight. Looks like no Gray, Henry or Edwards. Steven Ward back do you think?
As everyone knows I don’t see in Mick anything that would want me to have him as our manager next year. BUT while we still have a chance of a play off spot I will give the team my support tonight.
I didn’t get my early bird and I won’t renew my season ticket though until Mick is no longer at the club.
It wouldn’t be so frustrating if we had defenders who could defend properly. We have enough creativity in kites and jarvis, but i do feel that we are missing a spark in the middle of the park, someone to rally the lads together u know what i mean? a Paul Ince character. A defence and a new paul ince is all we need.
Thanks Redge999
I’ll save up some of those facts for my end of season assessment!
I can probably add another dozen or so, like Elliott on the right wing and Stephen Ward on the left… but I’ll leave them for now.
I think we should give MM one last chance, tonight is his last chance saloon. If we don’t win tonight we can analyise what went wrong and where throughout the season and let our feelings be known. Lets get behind the team for the full 90 mins regardless of who is/isn’t playing and help them to victory. If the result doesn’t go our way then i might even let off my first boo of the season!!!!!!
I agree with Reg999.MM SHOULD HAVE BEEN GONE LONG AGO.Mr.Morgan,if you have learnt anything about Wolves and their fans it is the deep desire to have Wolves back where they belong,THE TOP FLIGHT.To do this you must have the players who are committed to the cause and a manager committed to the cause. We have neither.Money must be found for the right players and a manager must be found who has the right credentials MM NO.ALLARDYCE YES.If we lose Eastwood well……..Come on Mr.Morgan lets put Wolves back where they belong.
Palace have to play Hull and so could lose. We must win all three and hope.
But the sad fact is we do not deserve to do so. As Mick said after the game “If we don’t get up into the playoffs it’s not for the want of effort…
And that’s the problem. Lots of effort but little guile or penetration. The lads have overachieved again this season. Without that effort and commitment we would be midtable with no chance at all. Mick and the squad are to be applauded in that respect.
However the kids haven’t been given a chance, Freddy has largely been insulted. His performances in the league last season earned him the right for an extended run and especially so in a team short on scoring power.
Now we face another season where breen and craddock are one year slower, other players are clearly not good enough, we don’t know about the kids and we are most likely to lose SEB, Kites and Hennesay. (The last thing we should be doing now is to let Kites play - it’s like putting him in the shop window).
Mick has had two years now so I feel that if we do fail to win the next three - they are all winnable by a team that’s good enough - then maybe Micks future should be under review.
Saturday left me gutted. Those two points meant so much.
Lets all support Hull.
Wolves fans might get more than they bargained for if Sylvan Ebanks-Blake scores against Cardiff on Tuesday night. The striker, who celebrated scoring against Ipswich on Saturday by tearing off his shirt, said: “We need three points, if I score and we win I might take off all my clothes!” (Various)
0-0 tonight and then in the morning we can start the debate about who is the likely replacement to McCartney.
oh well, we still have the European Championships to look forward to….oh and the fact that England aren’t taking part is even more annoying than Wolves’s persistant failures. I live in Vienna…Croatia are playing their group games in Vienna (now if England had won their group…). I made it to two games this season: Sheffield Utd at home and Palace at home. In my opinion i saw the most negative Wolves side since I started following Wolves in 1988. I refuse to go to another match until things change and that change will have to be getting rid of Moxey. I somehow think MM could still do the job and he just needs more time. I do not think we will lose our star (?) players in the close season. As for FE? I think only saw a few minutes against Palace and it was way better than anything Bothroyd ever did.
back to the European Championships: floor space for rent, nice view over Vienna
I hope we give a very warm welcome to Dave Jones this evening. Of our last three managers he was the most decent and the most modest and, I’m sure, the one who really understood how to build a team. I find it hard to believe that he was behind a lot of the misfits we bought when we were promoted. I hope McCarthy goes soon. If he had really understood what our problems were he’d have played our youngsters more who have gone out on loan, he would have bought in Scott Dann and Daniel Fox from Walsall and would have played Eastwood. Eastwood was the championship player of the month in August and then McCarthy inexplicably dropped him. How mad is that? The sooner the season ends the better. I wish Kightly all the best with another club, I hope he gets on as well as Joleon at Everton and Robbie Keane, finally, at Spurs. Let Freddie Eastwood go and play for a manager who gives him a chance. WBA and us have the best squads in this league and should both have gone up automatically. The fact that we won’t even get into the play-offs is down to one man and one man only, Mick McCarthy. He says that if we don’t go up, it is because we are not good enough. We are good enough but he doesn’t know how to get the best out of the players we have got. Bye Bye Mick, pity you thought that selfishly bringing in your own ex sunderland people was what Wolves needed. You were wrong.
i could go on all day about why we have had such a poor season, but most people know all the reasons.morgan & the fat controller,by not sacking mccarthy, will have a lot of explaining to do,if they then have to sack him in the autumn, when there are no decent managers around & the transfer budget spent.5 years from now,in my opinion, mccarhty will be either a journeyman manager or an ex one, paul ince will be one of the top managers in the country,we should do everything we can to try & get him back at the club & then hopefully our biggest worry would be can we keep him.
Wont be there tonight. But PLEASE don’t get on Wolves players backs. It achieves nothing, just undermines players confidence & feeds the opposition. Lets not be that extra goal away team managers talk about pr e- molinuex games.
Mick thinks we are all ‘nuggets’ anyway, so why bother having an opinion?
Another honest blog Nathan…It’s flippin awful being a Wolves fan sometimes isn’t it?
I for one will be relieved if we don’t make the top 6. We would be absolutely slaughtered in the Premiership.
Cristiano Ronaldo can score a hat-trick in the time it takes George Elokobi to control a ball!
And it’s exactly signings like GE make me believe Mick must go. It’s taking us backwards. People may argue that SEB is a great signing (which he is) but it’s taken Mick 9 attempts in 2 years to get a goalscorer.(Jay Bothroyd, Jemal Johnson, Craig Davies, Andy Keogh, Stephen Elliott, Kevin Kyle, Stephen Ward, Freddy Eastwood). If only one of them could play centre half.
We’ve now had 3 ex-international managers who’s careers have peeked….failed…..come to Wolves to try and salvage some pride…….then failed again.
It’s like Jade Goody revisiting Big Brother….destined for disaster.
It’s time we had a rising star….It’s time for the Guv’nor.
Being unlucky whatever, the reason we are in this position is cos thats where we deserve to be. The league table does not lie & unfortunately, hindsight hints there are too many under-performing or just poor players in our squad. Collins, Breen, S & D Ward, Potter, Gibson, George, Elliot and Kyle all deadwood!
Nathan Lloyd (13) a thousand apologize,I did get you mixed up with Nathan Wolves(13)sorry,,my Daddy used to say,,,the problem with you son is you talk when you should be listening,,,,,I never learn.
Hi Nathan - good heart felt blogg.
I’m won’t stay long, but having read your comment about SEB taking his shirt off, I just wanted to share with you something I read on our pages the other day…. it was along the lines of:
“when, after scoring against Ipswich, SEB took his shirt off, I thought it was Sherman Klump running onto the pitch”.
Not being nasty - I just thought it may make you laugh - and thats what football should be about.
All the best.
Ha ha.
See.
We are rubbish.
MICK OUT! MICK OUT!
Cardiff tonight will beat us and Davy Jones will have the last laugh.
A well written piece Nathan.
If you look at all the passages of mine you will see that i agree with you.
MM has seldom looked like lifting wolves season, at no point have we been comfortable in any game, and very rarely have we been confident in MM team selection.
Any other season we would have been out of contention a long time ago for play off status, and that shows how bad we really have been.
All the fans have been very patient, at times not always behind the team but can you blame them, I don’t think you can.
Hope and expectation is what we live on for the remaining three games.
Whatever our grumbles or views on the season are, for god’s sake just leave them another week until we KNOW the seasons over.
We can still do it, and as long as we can, I will be singing my heart out and supporting the boys.
Barmy Army!
Miserable season. I know we should get behind Mick and the lads for that last ‘mathematical’ push, but who are we kidding?
Mick needs to go and take 10 or so of the players with him:-
Darren Ward, Neill Collins, Olofinjana, Stephen Ward, Rob Edwards, Darren Potter, Stephen Elliott, Darron Gibson, Graham Stack, Kevin Kyle….
WRONG SONG ABOVE ILL POST IT AGAIN LATER SOZ
Nathan spot on,it shows this Muppet of a manager hasnt got a clue his decision making all year has been poor and his constant picking of favourites whether they play or not drives the Fans mad.He has also shown total disregard and respect for the Fans saying in his recent interview he doesnt give a fig.
Newcastle_wolf….
Just the ten? What about Craddock and Breen? Karl Henry and the fringe players like Mulgrew, Rosa, Little and Gobern?
MMM (46)
I think you’re being a tad harsh. I would still like to see Craddock, Rosa, Little and Gobern here next season out of that little collection.
Mick needs to go though. Tonight will be the final nail in the coffin, and I think he could resign before the end of the night.
I think his ridiculous little speech after the Ipswich game where he just can’t see where this team have failed, speaks volumes. He disregards the ‘nuggets’ as he calls them, plays his mates, leaves freddy out, plays strikers in the midfield, because he has bought so bleedin many. The guy is a waste of space.
By all means I will be getting behind the boys tonight, but we don’t deserve a playoff place, nor do we have the quality anyway.
If I hadn’t been to a game this season I probably wouldn’t have missed a thing.
Lousy.
I heard a rumour that Ince and Morgan were seen on the golf course the other day. Could this be just what we need?
Ince or Alladyce in the summer?
So tonight is the last chance to rescue something from a disappointing season. We need to win all three matches left to reach the play offs. Given the teams in the top 6 we do stand a real chance of winning the play offs if we get there.
Today is for positive thoughts and the fact that the hope is still there. Hope we can still feel positive tomorrow else the postings on here might be slightly less supportive.
Steve Bull Stand (49)
I think deep down, as the blogging person put, we know its game over. I think tomorrow we will be talking about the choice for our next manager and the countless errors mick has made all season.
47. Newcastle_wolf
Face it, the club needs an overhaul.
Get rid of the dead wood, currently enough to make a nice villa out of and put some class in charge of the team. If we wait until the summer when a lot of teams are looking, it will probably be too late.
Get rid of Mick now and all the Sunderland and Irish influence with him. If Neill Collins can play for Wolves.. then so can I.
I said Mick was rubbish from day one, and hey presto. We should know by now that tonight will be a complete failure, who are we trying to kid?
Congrats to an excellent Albion side who showed how to win this dreadful league.
MICK OUT! MICK OUT! MICK OUT!
INCE IN! INCE IN! INCE IN!
I think its a real shame that the fans can’t muster enough energy to get behind the team one more time.
Even the bloke who writes the blog has given up. Shame on you. I’ll be singing my heart out tonight in the Stan Cullis whether we succeed or not. We have not have a team brimming of quality, but at least they give it a gew doh they?
If you don’t want to support the lads, then stay at home in the warm and watch the ‘big boys’ of Chelski and Liverpool battle it out to a 1-0.
I hope Mick continues his good work next season.
I agree the draw with Ipswich was a blow to our play-off chances but, as yet, it is far from mortal. Crystal Palace have to avoid defeat against the very impressive and highly motivated Hull, a far from convincing Watford side still have to secure a win to survive, and is it inconceivable to believe that a faltering Bristol City will lose to a revitalised Sheffield United and fail to beat Preston (their goal difference is worse than our’s). Naturally this assumes three straight wins on our behalf??? The white knuckle ride continues.
Wolfy (53)
I haven’t given up, I’m just facing the reality that this side isn’t good enough to go up.
We haven’t looked top six or deserved to be top six all season.
You win nothing with players like Kyle, Bothroyd, Elliott, Ward and, dare I say it, Keogh in the team. Why? Because they are strikers who don’t score enough (or in some cases any) goals. Fact.
Obviously a lot has gone on between Eastwood and McCarthy. But who cares if he is ‘lazy’ or difficult to work with? He scores goals.
Forgive me for being naieve and old fashioned, but that’s what strikers are supposed to do, and that’s what wins you games.
i wonder if we will play 4-5-1 2nite and with a bench full of no hopes oops 2 no hopes intresting
thing is money as just left walsall
MY HEART SAYS WE WILL WIN TONIGHT, BUT MY HEAD SAYS WE’LL LOSE…..IM SICK OF BEING LET DOWN, I HOPE WE BEAT CARDIFF TONIGHT, BUT I WOULD ALSO WOULD LIKE TO GIVE DAVE JONES ALL THE BEST FOR THE CUP FINAL, I WAS GUTTED WHEN HE LEFT WOLVES.
IF WE DO LOSE TONIGHT I THINK MM WILL BE GONE, SOONER RATHER THAN LATER….
PAUL INCE FOR NEXT SEASON….
My team for tonight :
Hennessey - Little,Breen,Craddock,Gray - Kightly,Foley,Olofinjana(If Edwards not fit), Jarvis, - Ebanks Blake, Eastwood.
Bet Mad Mick has other ideas though.
Decided not to travel to the game, got a bad feeling its got 0-0 written all over it.
If you look beyond Albion, no team in the Championship deserves to be promoted and most would make Derby look good after a season there. We are the only club with a young Centre forward, and the only one with old central defence Had we had 2 wingers operating all season at full blast it might have been possible to score more than the opposition Lets be honest a year in the Premiership with even half of the present side would be a dispiriting season to watch. Without money invested wisely in players with guile and with wit and with strength we will be what we have been for years, pretenders to the top league but not participants
Essex Wolf.
AT LAST… A Wolves supporter with an appreciation of the realities Wolves face…
Damn.
Sounded like a terrific game, wished I had got in the car now.
Newcastle_wolf - it was not a terrific game it was boring end of season stuff in front of a very quiet crowd against a team waiting for the cup final.
But we won, and if we win two more I reckon we will be in the top 6.
McCarthy hasnt a clue. Full stop.
Thanks Steve Bull Stand, always nice to hear the real story!
And irishwolf, completely agree with you, but I fear we are stuck with him for another season.
