Money ’shame’ at dire display

Richard MoneyWalsall manager Richard Money admitted he was ‘ashamed’ of his players after defeat against Bournemouth ended their play-off hopes.

Saddlers were never at the races against opponents threatened with closure and relegation and rarely looked likely to gain the three points they needed to be in with a chance of sixth place.

Money was frank is his assessment of the display.

“The performance was dreadful,” he said. “It was totally unacceptable and I think the players let everybody down – themselves and the supporters.”

“I’ve been very proud of what we’ve achieved here as a club in the last two years, but I was ashamed of what I saw on Saturday – that’s how bad it was.”

Two defeats in four days at the Banks’s Stadium, combined with Leeds’ win at Millwall, signalled the end of Walsall’s slim chances of making sixth place.

Money admitted it will be difficult to raise his players for their last two matches, saying: “We’ve been playing so far above ourselves all season, with a group of young players who suddenly look as if they’ve hit the wall – pure and simple.”

Saturday’s clash at Huddersfield is followed by their last game of the season, at home to Hartlepool, and Money is anxious to ensure that their season doesn’t peter out.

“They look mentally and physically gone,” he said. “And it’s going to be a tough job to pick them up for the last two games of the season. We don’t want to finish what has been a wonderful season on a sour note.”

Absolute rubbish, nothing up front, midfield missing and for a rare occassion we looked shakey at the back.

There is only 1 person to blame for all of this: Stand up Mr Bonser…

It seems DD will be off in the summer because the club wont back his ambition. If Bonser wants the fans to start showing up then he needs to show the fans his ambition, get your cheque book out and splash £500,000 on a couple of players in the summer.

It is simple, no matter what manager we have the owner still insists on buying over the hill, past it players for free with nothing to prove.

Mr Bonser, it is you who should be ashamed - not Richard Money. Call yourself a Chairman of a Football Club.

It is you who should be driving this football club forward and into the Championship. I can’t think of any other football club chairman that would allow for the sale of two of their most important players and not inject any funds back to the manager to rebuild for a final push to retain our place in the play-offs.

Why don’t you just accept the offer for the club from Doug Ellis and move on !!

Why is it that virtually every day, remarks are made about Jeff Bonser and the money from the sale of the two COVENTRY players, and still he continues to say nothing.
Do you not realise Mr Bonser that until you give a satifactory answer to the questions of why no investment has been seen, then of course you’re going to get slagged off. For pity’s sake answer the question,Where has the money gone?

This season has finally kicked the enthusiasm out of me, which is unbelieveable given that we have done well in our first season back in League 1. As a Saddler you expect that players will be sold and very little pumped back into the fist team BUT to sell our two best players and not spend a single penny…shocking!! I’ve decided to take a leaf out of Bonser’s book and “not spend what I havn’t got” Every season for the last 25 years I forked out for season tickets for my family when I couldn’t really afford them. Well no more!! I will pick and choose my games and base my attendance on affordability. That’s 4 less supporters for next season JB.

Iwas talking to my sister yesterday and saying when we got promoted in (i think) 1988 through the old system play offs(home and away both legs)i went to all 4 games(has every game) and after beating Notts co(when they were good) we played Bristol City at Ashton Gate we won 3-1 with Dave Kelly getting 2(at the end i felt guilty thinking this ground so much bigger than Fellows Park, and everything that go’s with it we should not be going up) we did go up after losing 0-2 at fellows we won 4-0 in the replay. My point is 2 years later we played Bristol City again differance being they were going for promotion we were relegated(last match of season)Its simple we have never kicked on after success stand up MR B

I was talking to my sister yesterday regarding Saddlers. And memories came flooding back to me how the fact Walsall has stood still while others have flourished(and to cut a very long story short Walsall have NEVER built on success, and never will until a certain Mr Bonser sells.

Just for all u moaning supporters above, you need to think about the logistics of the club! We are a small club that has never had the money to go out and spend top wack on the best players! Teams such as bournemouth, luton, leeds have all gone into administration and it has resulted in themselves getting relegated. Have we………NO! I do agree that Bonser should give money some money in te summer from the sales of Dann and Fox but we cant go out and buy top wack players because we will not be able to aford their wage demands. Money has done an excellent job in bringing the youth through and what a fine job they have done for us this season. Lets hope we can breing sum more youth through next season and sign 4 players using a million from what we have gained. Come on money get us promoted next season!!!COME ON YOU SADDLERS!!!

Kyle Bird - you’re deluded if you think DD is going to get anything like a million to spend on four players!! I’m sure most of the “moaning fans” as you put it would have been happier if we had brought in a couple of players to replace Dann/Fox for a fraction of the money received from Coventry. There lies the problem, we will continue to loose fans over the coming years as no investment creates no hope, the foundation of any supporter anywhere in the world. Every fan “hopes” that thier team will be successful and show ambition. When you sell your best and don’t replace what is there to look forward to? The money received from the Jan sales could not have been budgetted for so why was not a fraction allocated to the team? I fully expect another batch of “freebies” in the summer and more reliance on young players who are not ready for a full season in the 1st team. The club will always remain small as we never build on any success or windfalls that come our way.
