Willenhall Town manager Dean Edwards resigned today, citing irreconcilable differences with chairman Paul Garner.
The Lockmen thrashed bottom of the table Berkhamsted 7-0 on Saturday, but despite the win, Edwards felt that a lack of communication with Garner had made his position untenable.
“The chairman and I haven’t really been communicating lately and it all stemmed from there,” Edwards said.
“I haven’t been able to speak to him and so I’ve had to leave a message to say that I’ve resigned and I still haven’t heard from him.”
“I’ve worked my guts out over the last 12 months and I’ve left the club in a better state than it was in before I became manager. I just feel that our visions over the future of the club are different and I think I’ve taken Willenhall as far as I can with the resources that we’ve got.”
Edwards believes that his time in charge at Noose Lane has been a succesful one and that the basis of a side ready for success has been built.
“I think that over the two years since Mel Eves and I came to the club we’ve done well,” he said.
“We won the Birmingham Senior Cup and got to the play-offs of the league and the side that they’ve got now with a few additions, could challenge next year.”
However, he warned that it will take some additional funding to succeed.
“It’s off the pitch that they’ve got to start getting their house in order,” he said.

I doesn’t seem very professional to announce that you’re quitting to a news paper BEFORE telling the chairman, I did have some respect, but maybe not so much now.
