Macca’s title bid delayed

The biggest fight in the Midlands for many a year, Wayne Elcock defending his British middleweight title against Darren McDermott of Dudley, has been postponed.

They were set to meet next week (April 25) at Aston Villa Events Centre, but Elcock has a chest infection.

“I’m totally gutted,” said Brummie Elcock this week.

“After the disappointment of my last fight against Arthur Abraham [IBF title KO defeat in Germany], I was looking forward to putting on a dazzling display for my fans.”

Hennessy Sports, who promote, said a new date would be announced shortly.

Sky TV have bought the rights for the fight.
