Albion boss Tony Mowbray felt his team were worthy winners.
And with the Baggies hitting the woodwork three times, it wasn’t surprising when Mowbray added: “It could have been more.”
The victory all but guaranteed Albion at least a play-off place and moved them two points clear at the top ahead of second-placed Hull and third-placed Stoke with only three games remaining.
Albion travel to Norwich on
Saturday for what will be their sixth game in 18 days but they will do so with confidence flying.
The Hawthorns boss said: “On the balance of chances created and the possession of the ball, I don’t think anyone can have any
complaints about the result. We were excellent from the first minute and it was a bit of a mystery how it was still goalless at half-time.
“With all respect to Wolves, I felt 1-0 flattered them. But 1-0 is fine and we’ll take the three points.”He said: “I think it helps our team playing away at the moment. Wolves were one of the better sides we’ve played at The Hawthorns this season [last November]. They’re a proper football team who probe when they have the ball and can cause you problems.
“Maybe tonight, in front of their own supporters, they weren’t as fluent.
“At times, we can be more
creative and find more space away from home. Having five out of seven games away from home at the end of the season was never a fear for us.
“I think it’s a benefit.”
The away-day factor still has a part to play as Albion face trips to Carrow Road and QPR either side of their final home game against Southampton.
But Mowbray, of course, says playing away holds no fears for his men on the back of a seven-match unbeaten run on their travels.
He did warn: “Nobody is getting carried away. It could swing on its head again on Saturday. We’ve got to go to Norwich and try and find another performance.
“Norwich will be our sixth game in 18 days so it’s a big, big ask for the players. Let’s see how we go.
“We’d rather be in the position we are than not.”
Mowbray went with an unchanged team for the first time in four months and revealed it was getting tougher and tougher to sort out a starting XI as the campaign reached its conclusion.
“We’re at the stage where we definitely want to pick the team we feel is going to win the game,” he added.
“Every game is a difficult
decision [selection-wise]. Roman Bednar deserves to play football matches because of his goals ratio.
“It’s very, very hard for him to sit on the bench.
“I’ve been trying to give Luke Moore opportunities to get up and running for our team.
“Chris Brunt always comes on the pitch and looks like he’s going to create for us.
“It’s very, very hard for those boys, but hopefully they have humility and respect for the players out on the pitch to understand we’ve all got a common goal.
“The team was picked based on my perceived weaknesses of Wolves. We tried to capitalise on that.”

Can’t wait for August to see you in the premier…you’ll drop faster than the house prices in Sandwell.
Well said Tony. I wish we could play the dogheads every week - it keeps the morons off our pages.
I think your nose flatters you.
NOW NOW BOGGIE FANS YOU BEAT US AND I THINK YOU’LL GET AUTOMATIC PROMOTION NOW,AT 5PM LAST NIGHT I WAS IN MY LOCAL IN TIPTON WITH WOLVES AND BOGGIE FANS AND WE ALL SAID IF WOLVES SCORE FIRST IT WILL END UP 1-1 AND IF THE BOGGIES SCORE FIRST IT WILL BE 0-1 AND WE DID;NT NEED NOSTRADMUS TO SEE THAT JUST A FEW GOOD PINTS OF BANKS DID THE JOB, STILL UP THE WOLVES.
Im walking on air!BOING BOING
1 - so you will be watching us on MOTD then ??
It’s a poor man who can’t say “well done” when beaten by a better opponent.
Last night could only have been better if the win had secured promotion - but we’re saving that for our last home game.
I dont think so!
Equal game I thought, couldve been 3-3
Don’t know what game he was watching.
Where’s South Bank Barmy Army then?
Over the two seasons, we’ve played seven times - 5 wins, 1 draw (Gera missed penalty) and one defeat.
We let the boys do the talking on the pitch!
1. Your name says it all about your comment.
I have read most of the posts today and many from the Dark side are gracious enough to admit that we were the better team on the night , hey what am I talking about, the season.
But having lost the argument on the pitch last night and forced to eat their venomous words of yesterday they have moved the goalposts. Now we are going to do a Derby etc. Trouble is none of them are very good at the old Nostradamus thing so on that basis IF we get promoted we should on their prognosis do very well thank you.
Do they really think that TM is going to let the grass grow under his feet he is probably already planning for next season. IF we go up.
I know the caps thing but it is a big IF at the moment still nine points to play for. So I will clutch the buttocks on Sat and try to avoid the heart attack. I hate the journey to Norwioh always get stuck behind a caravan. Still hope it will be worth it and the bandwagen rolls on.
Well lets be honest tesco people….
you just have not got the financial backing if you go up, but I would like to see you get you backsides kicked like Derby, for some amusement.
Soory I missed out the word some have moved the goal posts
Apologies to those Wolves fans that moderated their understandable disappointment when posting.
Look nothing is certain yet for either team we could both still end up in the play offs !
Got a feeling this may go to the wire.
Congratulations on your victory.
I am sick of reading your pathetic comments following articles on Wolves stories in the Express & Star. Will you please add comments to your own stories because 10 comments is pretty poor following Mowbrays statement. You all still have one eye in the centre of your forehaead even though everyone else knows that you are the best team in the league.
Here’s hoping you get promoted - then you will be the third team from Birmingham in the Premier League. B71 your post code does not lie - your just a bunch of Brummies.
6.
Fair point and I will say well done we were beaten by a better team. I think we would beat any other team in this league playing like we did last night, but in all fairness not you as I felt you showed you’re the best in the league last night.
Would also say it’s a poor man who can’t win gracefully too though.
13.
My Post Code begins with a B and I live in Oldbury!! Does that mean Oldbury is in Brum? NO!! Get your facts straight eh? Half the people who live in Wolvo have a DY Post Code!!
Dingles…….I’ve got the oven on if you want to warm up your large slice of humble pie !
MM was sick as a pig last night having seen the best footballing team in the division open up quite a large can of whoop ass. Just admit it, we are the best team you’ve played, just read the quote your goalkeeper made (who’ll be on his way in the summer).
Now do you want “Custard” with the pie ?
tihs will allways be tihs the colour and smell will never change .
17. Good of you to admit it.
Ah i see what you lot are doing now.You are DELIBERATELY not trying to get promoted as from your comments i can see that there is no point and you dont want to.
Why didnt i think of that!
Such garbage lads. Why not be men and wish us well? We keep beating you and achieving more yet you are all bitter and twisted about it.We simply dont feel the same about you lot anymore. We have bigger fish to fry.
I genuinely wish you well for the playoffs and hope that you get promoted, even though it sounds like most of you wolves fans dont really want it…i mean to go up and get beaten every week…whats the point huh?Like to go to wembley in the semis…whats the point?Very very silly comments.
12.Albion Wizards
“Look nothing is certain yet for either team we could both still end up in the play offs !”
Things really are bad when even Albion fans try play down the gulf between us to cheer us up!!
I’d give Albion a 95% chance of automatic promotion, and us just a 25% of making the play offs. It could happen for us…but probably won’t.
Simon
13: …Oh dear you are a little uptight today aren’t you?
Post codes are (amazingly!)for postage reasons and nothing to do with regions/districts/councils or countys you plank!
Kiddi is a DY (thats Dudley to you mate)post code so does that make it in the Black Country?
If your gonna come on here arguing where people live (to mask the fact you lost to your bitter rivals last night!)at least do so with a sensible reasoned logical arguement
17. Don’t drink during the day as you spell like a drunk !
Wolves have the harder run in now, with teams that want to get somewhere in the league. Baggies on easy street and I don’t mind seeing them whipped by the big boys occationally next year, we seem to learn and play better once back in the Championship.
1877 chris… my postcodes dy3 does that make me a dingle????
calm down and have an early night. School starts early tomorrow christopher a good nights sleep will let you learn more about the superiority of west bromwich albion.
True tony we could have had more but 0-1 is always good enough to beat the dingles
What is Mowbray going on about? He says the same every week. We shouldve won 10, they defended well thats why we didnt win. . . why doesnt he give it a rest and give credit where it is due.
The real fans that go could see that there is not too much difference between us.
Mowbray just cant see past his own team.
