Walsall boss Richard Money has hinted that he may quit the club in the summer.
Saddlers home defeat to Bristol Rovers further reduced their slim play-off chances and afterwards Money revealed that he is seeking assurances from the club regarding their ambition for next season and beyond.
“It’s been a year of real progression and an opportunity for someone to push it forward from here on in, there’s no doubt about that,” Money said.
“I don’t see why that won’t be me, but let’s just say that I’m going to need some assurances in the summer - let’s put it like that.”
Injuries to key players in recent weeks has meant that Saddlers are down to the bare bones at a time when they needed to be at their strongest to challenge Leeds for sixth place and this lack of squad depth has been a source of frustration for the manager.
“I’m not going to speculate on next season, but what I am going to say is that I’m ambitious,” Money said.
“I’m not happy finishing seventh; I want to finish higher than that and if we want to finish higher than that, we’re going to need more players and we need more quality players.
“We were down to 16 players tonight and that’s not going to change too much between now and the end of the season, so we’ve just got to ask everybody to go again on Saturday and that’s what we’ll do.”
Saddlers growing injury list includes Paul Boertien, out for the season and Ian Roper, who sustained a broken foot at Cheltenham on Saturday.

After all of his good work at the club it looks like he has had enough
who can blame him?
He had a good solid team then two of the team were sold
Since then we have struggled
Last night was frustrating we were second best
If he does go I would be disappointed
Walsall have shown a lack of ambition
We should have replaced Dann/Fox not just taken the money
I hope Dickie does get the reassurances he wants or we ave to start searchong for another manager and that is never good
is DD hinting that his ambition far exceeds bonsers??
See ya!
You ain’t half as good as you reckon you are Money. Very hit and miss in the transfer dealings and tactically very suspect.
I’m fed up of the constant hinting at possibly leaving. Either do it or shut up and get on wioth the job you’re paid for.
Dave Roe you clearly have no idea do you…richard moneys the best thing thats happened to walsall for a long time fans seem to forget that before he took over this club was going no where and know we’ve gone up as champions and have held our own in league 1 I agree with what hes saying about he needs assurances because bonser is a complete joke…I really hope he does’nt leave
THERES ONLY ONE RICHARD MONEY,WALKING ALONG SINGING A SONG,WALKING IN A WALSALL WONDERLAND
I think the comment ‘What I will say is that I am ambitious’ is very telling. That to me is pointing out that JB isn’t. But then we all knew that anyway didn’t we?
Top post Dave Roe! Exactly my thoughts.
shawwwn, I think I do have an idea, yes.
Money has got 1 tactic and 1 tactic only. He is unable to change things when we get sussed out. Is that the sign of a really good manager? I think not.
There was a Walsall before Richard Money and there will be one after he’s slung his hook. We will survive without him ….. no matter what he’d like us all to believe.
DD’s patience openly wearing thin now then?
Dicky was ambitious from the start & keen to mark himself out as a vibrant, ‘new’ manager in English football. I’ve no doubt at all that he saw a two year stint at Walsall as his absolute maximum - look what he’s done in that time - a championship and a competetive league one season with a small & very young squad.
It’s not in Jeff’s game plan to go up this year - it’ll cost too much. Pick the bones out of this season, use the kids again next year & see where that takes us is the plan as i see it. I don’t see it so much as a lack of ambition, i think the ambition IS there - but it’s tempered by a hugely cautious financial approach - thats always been JBs way & always will be. DD knew that, but now reality is kicking in.
Personally, i can see DD off to pastures new & David Kelly in at the Banks’s - i’m a DD supporter & i HOPE he stays, but this public outburst shows the strain is telling.
Bonser out
Bye Bye Mr Ego… Remember to shut the door on your way out.
what is wrong with you people? are u the same idiots who booed at the final whistle last nite? we were heading the for the conferance before DD came along and he has every right to be upset with the lack of ambition at this football club! Richard money is already the best manager we have ever had and if u people spent more time supporting him and OUR team than whinein sayin bye bye then maybe just maybe he wouldnt have anything to complain about?
Where do you get he’s the best manager we’ve evr had from?
Nicholl got us promoted into this division and established = the same as Money.
Graydon got us promoted from this division twice = better than Money.
Lee kept us in the Championship for 2 seasons = better than Money.
Best manager ever? Get a grip on reality.
what a joker.yeah there was a walsall before money, very true.one that was going to the scrape heap.you always talk pants, whatever the subject may be
dd has done a tramendous job for our club, i give full credit to any manager that cums to us due to the tight budget that bonser is making them work with. My only downfall with dd right now is why on earth does’nt he drop mooney he has done nothing for us within the past month and more he aint bothered about the club he really gets me down.
if money had the guts to take a look in his reserve and youth team for the likes of manny smith, netan sansara, charlton davies, chris hanna, and harry harris and throw them in instead of moaning about how hes down to the bare bones, walsall could be in the play offs already.if hes impressed with the youngsters play them!if hes ambitious try playing them next season and prove to evry1 that walsall are a big enough club with him at the realm or without him there.
plz dnt leave us DD
yeah get a grip on reality ok then u tell me how long it took ray graydon, chris nicholl, colin lee to do the things u mentioned u find me a manager not just of walsall but any club in this country bar probably jose mourinho at chelsea who has brought success to a club so quickly as DD has? bearing in mind he hasnt had 300million to spend to do it? ur the one that needs to meet the fact that we cannot afford to lose a manager with the qualifitcations and ambition of richard money because who are we gonna get next? another PAUL MERSON perhaps?
i think he has done a great job and i would want him to stay.
However it was only a week or so ago that he kept commenting how he thought we had a good enough and big enougg squad to mount a play off challenge so this is just an excuse im afraid.
We were awful last night i was there, I am a season ticket holder despite the fact that i live in sheffield, so it is a 160 mile round journey so i think i have put enough effort to cme to games shame the players dont show the effort i d week in week out to support the team. So i feel it is my right to boo the team if they r playing badly t the end of the game. I do pay their wages after all.
Dan, Graydon took us up in one season from this division.
Open your eyes. Money is not that good a manager - try and remember the last time you saw a Walsall team not even have a shot on target at Bescot? I cant remember one in 16 years of going. Thats why I’ve had enough, I can take his rants about fans etc, I can take his ‘defensive’ tactics, what I cant take is watching a team completely unwilling to score goals.
Anyone that wants DD to leave is etiher a dingle or clinically insane!!(one and the same thing really I know) He can be a miserable get at times, but when has our progression stopped under his leadership??
He took over as we were in freefall, immediatly brough in players that got us promotion!!! admittedly not every one has worked out but probably 70-80% have, and who at this level finds a gem every time??? How many of the first team were even here under Merson????? To say he’s not purchased well is as blind as it is stupid.
This season anyone should be happy with a stedy ship but he’s took us to the verge of the play-offs. Had he been given that little extra backing we’d still have been right up there.
Like someone’s already said, I don’t think JB wanted us up this season, and to be fair with the current squad it probably isn’t a great idea anyway.
The board have let us down by not taking that little extra gamble as is so often the case.
The goals issue has been there all season, Mooney is 37/8 and the variety of kids and money grabbers he’s been partnered with was never going to put a bulge in the net too often. next season will be the time to critisize if it all goes belly up, not when we’re in the top half of the table in our first season after promotion.
Get a grip morons.
Chris,
Not able to cope with others having different views to your own? Have to call them linically insane, dingles or morons just because you don’t agree?
I’d give up the cut and thrust of lively debate if I were you
Ah so you can’t cope with my OPINION that theose disappointed with DD aren’t exactly all there? Aren’t you doing exactly what you’re critisising me for??
I don’t agree with Sadam Hussain’s opinions and would call him insane? Is that wrong??
Differing views are fine, as long as there’s real thought and substance to them.
lol
Chris, you are absolutely right. Dave Roe has a history of serial whinging and myopia. He loathed Colin Lee when he had us halfway up the Championship and now he wants rid of a manager who inherited a shambles, won a title in his first year and nearly got us into the play-offs in his second. I gather ‘tinned’ roe does a lot of good work for the club via the Trust and my brother knows him and tells me he is a nice guy, but frankly, going by his webs postings alone, he is exactly the kind of fan we can do without.
