Wolverhampton is becoming a jobs blackspot, with the number of people out of work in the city rising again this month despite regional and national falls.
Figures out today show numbers claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in the city rose by 69 to 7,378, or more than one in 20 of Wolverhampton’s working population. At 5.1 per cent it is the highest claimant rate in the Black Country. It follows a rise of 163 last month.
Elsewhere in the Black Country and south Staffordshire the claimant count fell - matching figures nationwide released today by the Office of National Statistics.
