All out for derby win

wd2077157wolves-albion-28.jpgRival bosses Mick McCarthy and Tony Mowbray square-up for the seventh time knowing something has to give in the Black Country promotion duel.

Wolves and Albion meet at Molineux tonight with both managers desperate for the victory that can send their hopes of Premiership football and the multi-million pound reward that comes with it soaring.

Albion boss Mowbray has only lost one of the six derbies he has contested so far with the reward of a two-point lead at the top of the Championship beckoning his side.

With their massively superior goal difference effectively adding another point to their advantage, the Baggies are relishing the chance to make it three wins from their last four Molineux visits.

But they will be confronted by a Wolves team which can feel the collars of sixth-placed Crystal Palace if they claim only their second win over Mowbray’s Albion - while still holding a game in hand over their immediate rivals.

In an era when this 122-year-old fixture has not lacked for a dramatic backdrop, yet another memorable showdown is in store for a packed house with Mowbray acknowledging that the old enemy has never been more dangerous.

“Wolves are a very good side with very good players and they have added that extra ingredient of goals since the last window - but we’re looking forward to it,”said Mowbray. His opposite number  adopted a bullish stance  for the 156th showdown.

McCarthy, set to name an unchanged side with the injured Karl Henry again replaced by Darron Gibson, said: “We’ll find out on May 4 whether West Brom are the best team in the division.

“But it might be the time to say: ‘you have been playing well, do what you’ve been doing and go and play.’

The Baggies will keep Wolves guessing as to which combination they choose for the front role and which two of Zoltan Gera, James Morrison and Chris Brunt occupy the wide midfield positions.

After this game we have a relativley simple run in. If we can do the business tonight we are well on our way. Wolves have more to lose than us and the pressure has to be on them.

Hopefully Wolves will try and throw men forward. Thats when we’re at our best, we’ll open them up and knock 3 or 4 past them!!!

Hope the dingles, turn up this time.

These games have been far too easy for us.

Another “small club” stepping stone on our way up.

4 - caps lock… with just 4 games to go this season I think TM’s honeymoon period ended some time ago.

Yes wolves are a different / better team than last season - but so are we. We have kept and improved our fantastic scoring rate, but added team work and commitment to the squad.

We will need to play our best to get a win tonight - but so will you guys.

    I still think a 3-3 is likely.

That should read ‘Better’ side. Still I for one am really confident of a brillant game and a resounding win for a resurgent Wolves side. Then we may see three Midland teams battling it out in the top division.
    Up The Wolves.

The most worrying part of your post isn’t Hennessy’s injury but that your mate’s pooped to see you. Made me laugh anyway

I think it will be 27-27 with Norman Bell coming off the bench in a rare substitutes appearance to notch the equaliser in the 98th minute. As you can see i’m delirious already. I need a pint………anyway, come on you Wolves 2 nite. Nice to see thuginson sent off after about 10 minutes. That would be good.
