Tony Mowbray today issued a rallying call to Albion fans to roar the Baggies to the Premier League.
Supporters have responded in droves to reduced admission prices with a full house guaranteed for this evening’s potential crunch clash with Watford.
The manager has now called on the fans to play their part in the final push for promotion by avoiding a repeat of the booing that was directed at Dean Kiely in the recent victory over Colchester.
“It’s important that the fans stick with the team,” said Mowbray. “There was no more classic case than in our last home game.
“The game is for 90-odd minutes and for us to score two goals in the last three or four minutes it was crucial that the fans stuck with the team.
“If supporters want to boo they should really save it until the end when the final whistle has gone and during the course of the game they really should be supporting their team.
“The vast majority of our supporters have done that all season and we’re hopeful that in the last two games, and among the travelling support, they are very much behind the team because we’ve all got a common goal.”
Mowbray said fans who directed criticism at players during a match risked affecting the performance of the team. But the Baggies boss is confident the crowd will get behind his team for the remainder of the season.
“It becomes inhibiting, I would suggest, on the individual,” said Mowbray.
“You don’t want to be the one who makes mistakes and you are very aware that if you make a bad pass you are going to hear the moans and groans.
“But let’s hope that’s not the case and that it doesn’t raise its head at our club .
“The supporters have been fantastic all season and stuck with the team and it’s important in such a crucial stage that they remain steadfast in their support.”
