Birmingham City 1 Everton 1

Joleon LescottSuper sub Mauro Zarate came off the bench to rescue a precious point for Blues in their battle for Premiership survival.

Zarate came on to replace James McFadden and curled home a free-kick with seven minutes left to earn his side a share of the spoils.

It was former Wolves defender Joleon Lescott who broke the deadlock in a tightly-fought contest at St Andrew’s.

Ex-Blues striker Andrew Johnson created the goal, with his lofted pass headed home by Lescott.

Before that clear-cut chances had been at a premium in a game with plenty of commitment but precious little quality. But the point will be more useful for Blues in their battle to stay up than Everton in their quest for Champions League football.
