I don’t know about you, but it feels a lot longer than a fortnight since that epic encounter with Charlton, writes Wolves blogger Nathan Lloyd.
And as expected, Wolves have dropped outside of the top six, but only by a solitary point, which is much better than I expected.
We have two games in hand on the majority of the teams ahead of us in the battle for promotion; it’s just a pity they happen to be against the top two teams in the division - Bristol City and Albion.
Victory in both games wouldn’t see us just battle it out for a top six spot, it could elevate us into the realms of an automatic promotion dogfight.
It’s unlikely, but not impossible.
I’d settle for a draw tomorrow down in the sold out fixture at Ashton Gate if we could beat the Baggies on Tuesday.
Just as Everton are linked with every decent Wolves player, lazy journalists also like to roll out the clichés for Bristol City.
You can’t read the words ‘Bristol’ and ‘City’ in the press without the words ‘surprise’ and ‘package’ following closely after.
If ever there was a good time to play them though, I think it’s now. They have picked up just four points in their last five games compared to our 10.
The fact they are still in the top two either illustrates that the Championship this season is tight or of poor quality.
As for McIndoe stating that Bristol City are striving for perfection, good luck with that Michael.
I look forward to seeing Bristol beating Milan in the Champions League in a couple of years if that’s the case.
I can’t say I really give a monkey’s what McIndoe comes out with.
He has had seven clubs in 10 years, so the likelihood is that he’ll probably be leaving the West Country soon for a ‘bigger’ club like Accrington Stanley and he can then spout his derogatory bile in Bristol City’s direction instead of ours.
In Jarvis we have a quicker, younger and more skillful player that McIndoe ever was or ever will be, so I’m not overly bothered that he isn’t on the books anymore.
With six games left and a possible 18 points on offer, the countdown begins.
I’ve studied the table, looked at other team’s run-ins, Palace for instance have to go to Hull and Watford, but at the end of the day I’m just second guessing as to what points other teams will manage to accumulate.
Last season it was 75 points for a play-off place, this year it will probably be around 70.
That would mean that Wolves would have to pick up at least half the 18 points on offer to grab that final play-off spot.
A good ending to the season was extremely improbable a few months ago.
We may not have achieved anything yet, but I sense real optimism and belief returning to the fans and the team.
You can accuse me of being quixotic, but until the fat lady fills her lungs, I’m going to stay positive and enjoy the rest of a compelling end to the season.
Good luck to the boys on Saturday.

Dead right nathan.
COME ON ME BABBIES. Right behind Mick and the boys all the way to the prem.
Alright Nath
Good blog mate, interesting stuff.
Slightly optomistic perhaps? The top 2 is beyond even the wildest of fantasist, however a top 6 spot is a must if Mick wants another crack at the Championship next season.
I’m travelling down to Bristol on Saturday with the other 1,999 Wolves fans, what a game it should be. Really we should be putting teams of that quality to the sword, after all, we are Wolves!
We are the Wolves, oh yes we are the Wolves….
La la la la la la…
We have no chance of Automatic, we are too far behind and at least 2 of the top 5 will win enough matches to get them up so we are playing for a play off spot.
The next two games are going to tell us a lot more and if we can get 3 points from these two games I think we’ll be well placed for 6th spot.
quixotic, please words us mere mortals can understand!!!
Any way lets just go for it ,if and i mean if we win our next two games no-one will want to play us between now and the rest of the season!
up the wolves
Three points off B.City. Tree points off Albion.
= AUTOMATIC PROMOTION. We are as good as there. Battle it out at Wembley Baggies, YOU KNOW YOU CAN DO IT BOINK.
Quixotic, ooooooooooooooooooooooh.
Nice blog, good luck on Saturday. I think you are dead certs for the play-offs. I always look forward to the derby games, but i think you will beat us on Tuesday. Has there ever been a more closely run race for the title??
Great for the neutrals looking on, murder for the fans chewing their nails. See you on Tuesday!!!
Must agree with 6 the law of averages says you are4 due to beat us. Would happily take a point tuesday.
Good luck tommorow
coem on wolves we can do it.
On a side note did anyone see the pole without a goal got 2 goals for Chicago fire in the MLS? haha
Sorry people, ‘quixotic’ does make me sound a bit pretentious.
It basically means being over optomistic or impractically idealistic.
It won’t happen again!
it always seems a long time since your last win,cuz it normally is,boing boing we r top
SACK MICK!
You are all dreaming. This has been a horrible season and now you are talking about Wembley?
We need a big clear out in the summer and for Morgan to open his wallet.
Because there is so much inconsistency in this league - apart from Stoke, everyone has lost 10 - anything can happen. That includes automatic but it is a tall order.
We can beat Bristol City. Albion will be tougher as it’s a local derby.
My biggest concern is Collins. He did well last season with Edwards but apart from his goals, he gives away penalties and makes mistakes.
surely since the game against Bristol City is on a Saturday with a full weekend schedule for the championship, it isn’t one of our games in hand. I thought it was West Brom and Cardiff - both home games which we should be looking at getting 4 points from; in a hopeful, optimistic, half full kinda way!
Great Blog Nath. Enjoyed it.
11. YAWN.
mcarthy and his attitude out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!mcarthy and his attitude out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!mcarthy and his attitude out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!mcarthy and his attitude out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!mcarthy and his attitude out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!mcarthy and his attitude out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh Nathan, now by explaining the meaning of the word you have insulted everyones intelligence, you need to get out more and stop playing scrabble!!!
11.
Laura ha. What a fan you are. (Not).
16. Justin
Well said. Total Agree.
END THIS NIGHTMARE, GET MICK OUT.
11) Whilst a lot of us may tend to agree with you lets leave the summer clearout till the summer.
We have a basis of a young promising team who should have really gained an automatic slot this season given the competition. We haven’t but still have a chance through the play offs.
Lets wait and see what happens over the next month before we start the inquiry.
agree with wolveswolves (for the first ever!!) we are to far behind for automatic, but also agree with the boggie wbaforever (whats goin on!!) we should be dead certs for a play off place.
the way we’re playing now should see us secure 5th or 6th spot. as long as the boggies go up automatic (aaarrrgggghhhhh) i think wolves would be odds on favorites to join them through the play offs.
MAKIN’ THE PLAY OFFS THE MCARTHY WAY..IN STYLE OF COURSE..OH YES.
P.S LAURA WOLF.. IS THAT YOU WE CAN HEAR..SHOUTING FROM THE KITCHEN.
eternal optimist here but here goes, to get automatic we need 16 points, improbable you but you never know, im predicting stoke to get 2 wins and a draw from their last four games leaving them on 76, bristol to draw two and win one putting them on 75. Hull to get 7 pts from their last 5 games leaving them on 75 and Watford blowing it completely(they were a shambles on tuesday) leaving them with 72. Baggies to finish on 78 and win the league and wolves going up in second.
come on the wolves…
comments………………
Anybody wanna sell 2 tickets for bristol city match tomora will pay £30 for each??
17. wbabomber
Ha ha, I’m damned if I do, damned if I don’t….
It’s not my intention to question anyone’s intelligent, even those that support the stripy lot.
Nathan you spell optimistic with an I and not an O.Sorry .Come on me babbies.
One of Mick’s biggest mistakes was letting McIndoe go before he had a fully fit replacement. Now that Jarvis is firing we are coming good. Your blog was a little bit all over the place mate but at least it was readable and not too obvious this time - did contain some useful information though.
Here’s hoping wolves can get some good points from these next two games. We are the in form team and the break would have been timely to give the players a rest before the final few games. Hopefully by tues night the tescos are too knackered to run.
We are WOLVES!!!
Nick the Greek, you are a TC boy how come you do not know the meanings of such words.
As for wolves this season I feel top 6 is good considering what i have seen this season, but have just re-newed my season ticket for 08/09. Will it be Wolves V Man U or Wolves V Barnsley.
anybody goy one ticket for tomorrow at bristol
Wolves are notorious for building our hopes up only to let us down. This is again the case as I travel to Bristol tomorrow full of optimism. Please can we now realise our unquestionable potential and start putting these supporting acts like Bristol to the sword! I sense an early goal could yield plentiful against a team in decline and a player we would take great pleasure in asking the score. Come on me babbeees!!
Just read on the Wolves site that Kightly is playing in a practise match on Tuesday so hopefully fit for Ipswich.
No need to sharpen ya studs Robbo!
Good blog Nathan
Why not talk about automatic
promotion,
whilst it is a tall order, it is not beyond the realms of possibility,
especially this season…..where the clubs at the top end seem to be involved in the race to avoid promotion.
MM talks to the media about the playoffs,
but in the confines of the dressing room,
you can be assured he is telling the players they CAN gain automatic.
Plus, since Phil Brown won his poison challis,
Hull have been inactive….so that will be interesting.
Good hunting tomorrow.
wolves got 2 important games coming up,they must win both to have a chance in the playoffs.
so come all wolves fans get 100% behind them!!
24) - is that why in (9) you spelt ‘optimistic’ incorrectly and here used the word ‘intelligent’ instead of ‘intelligence’? Thank you for stooping to our level, Nathan.
More importantly - agree that Jarvis is better but had we had McIndoe and not Ward down the left for the first half of the season - and therefore more balance - I think we’d be in the top two already. Still, that’s the past - let’s bring on the future and a good points return over the remaining games.
you should make the playoffs with your games in hand if you fail then mad mick should go,,,no pressure like,,,GOING UP THE MOWBRAY WAY ,IN STYLE OF COURSE,,,OH YES…
19. Laura_Wolf. People like you remind me that there is an unfortunate underclass in our society who open their gobs before thinking. You carry on having fun posting your stupid posts and let the rest of us talk football.
Good replies as ever from Bomber and Forever. After tomorrow we have five games left, four at home and only one away and that is at Coventry. It really is there for us. You may not agree but I reckon it suits us for the Baggies to beat Watford and they would be happy for us to beat Bristol City. Peace reigns in the Black Country at least until Tuesday. I think and hope that whoever loses on Tuesday can still go up but that little matter of local pride means it should be a fantastic night at a sold out Molineux. It is such a shame that pubs most close to avoid the morons from both sides clashing. Obviously I look forward to a Wolves win but I pray and hope that it is a peaceful night for everyone.
Forrrrrr GOD SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Optimistic? Optimistic at least some of us are optimistic! how can the rest of u call yourself fans anythings possible in this league! and you who are on about McCarthy and slim chances wheres your faith! the real fans are the fans like me and nathan.
The optimistic fans! The fans that have faith!
Nathan good blog i totally agree we should remain optimistic, even if we only pick up 5 points from the next 3 games(hopefully more) i think that would be ok. I can see us winning the last 3 games and that would definitely be enough to get us in the playoffs. GET BEHIND THE LADS!!
anybody got a spare ticket for tomorrow
Laura wolf keep quiet! 1st of all look at the postion we are in! 2nd Your a female! Keep quiet! Ur one of the pesamistic fans which bring this club down! keep away!!!
SETTLE FOR DRAW?….NO A WOLVES FAN THIS SEASON NEEDS TRANQUILLISERS FOR THE TOPSY TURVY DISPLAYS WOLVES HAVE DISPLAYED…BUT BELIEVE IN WOLVES NOW AS THEY ARE IN SOON TYPE OF NEVER SAY DIE FORM AND KIGHTS IS BACK(FINGERS CROSSED) WE HAVE FORM,ONE OF THE LARGEST SQAUDS AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE GAMES LEFT. NO RELIGATION FIGHTERS TO PLAY JUST THE MOST NERVOUS TOP 10 IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY. BELIEVE AND WE IN THE PLAY OFFS….LEAGUE CHAMPIONS IF THE FREAKY RESULTS CONTINUE. UP THE WOLVES!
Good blog, even if it is a little quixotically far fetched!
We’ll see, I suppose is the bottom line.
4 points from the next 2 games will set us up nicely for the remaining 4 games. Destiny is in our own hands. I think we will need 71 points to get that sixth spot because of our lousy goal difference.
40.Jonah
Disagree as much as you like with Laura Wolf, but don’t be as sexist to say that her viewpoint is because of her gender!
I think you’ll find a growing amount of females are getting into footie and a lot of us are fairly educated with our views.
Anyway, must get back to the ironing, cooking, cleaning and ensuring that my husband’s tea is on the table in time.
Is that better?
40.Jonah - Well said son, women should stay at home and do what they are good at, whatever that is.
40 Jonah+44 i have put lots of sensible posts on this site thanks to my husband (LOL)just because you do not like what Laura_wolf says do not tar us all with the same brush, anyway the old man will be wanting his dinner on the table when he has finished his beer, and i have still got to mow the lawns.
Malvern Wolf
You are a true footy fan and a gentlemen to boot, i hope this is the last time we play Wolves this season and the next time it is in the Premiership.
Yes i want the Baggies to win on Tuesday, and even if we do (although i think it is your turn to do us) i will not gloat and resort to name calling. This forum is here for footy debate, and in recent times it has felt like the sensible fans have been out numbered (from both sides). The humour often makes me laugh, and the thoughts of others often make me think, however the message Malvern Wolf left on the Albion blog made me put the derby game into perspective.
All the best.
The Black Country is rocking to the sound of promotion.
MARIE.. GOOD TO SEE YOU KNOW YOUR PLACE.. PUT THE KETTLE DARLIN’ THE LADS WANT A CUPPA.
LAURA DINGLE,i cant meet you in the pub on tuesday cuz there shut xxxx boing boing
48 should have read: LAURA DINGLE,i cant meet you in the pub on tuesday cuz unless there’s a beer garden for me to drink my lemonade I’m not allowed in

51, mad mick, how much are you willing to let your tickets go for??
50 laura,i know how upset you must be but not to worry we can make it another time, like next season cuz we will be in the prem and you in the championship so they wont have to close the pubs will they boing boing I LOVE LAURA DINGLE
52 SOUTH, STOP SUCKIN UP TO LAURA SHES MINE,SHELOVES BAGGIE FANS BOING BOING
redge i got 2 spare tickets,
Suddenly we are beginning to look like a ‘Loose Women’ debate!
Worst tv programme ever, fact.
What has happened to the debate about football?
Although if one of the Laura’s could make me a brew? I’m parched here love.
27 - Axel Foley - are you talking about me? Gets yer facts right son! And it’ll be Wolves - Man U…mark my words…am I ever wrong?
nickthegreek - apologies for the case of mistaken identity, Axel’s obviously got hair gel in his eyes!
Nath, do you ever wonder why you bother writing your blog?
First you were fluffy and now you can even slip in a decent bit of linguistical nouse without being pounced on.
I’d steer clear of big words in future. Remember that the Sandwell lot visit these pages, so keep it monosyllabic so you don’t damage their little boingy minds.
I think we will win 4-1 on Saturday and the rest of the league will be running scared.
BELIEVE IN MICK!
Sorry I meant “can’t” even slip in a decent bit of linguistical nouse….
I don’t wear the Tesco colours, honest to god.
Does anyone know if Kights will be on the bench this Saturday?
Laura’s rule the world!
See you all at Moolinuex next Tuesday when whe trashe the Bagies.
COME ON WOLVES
60. Soupy etc
I love writing the blog, but I think its a bit demeaning of you to think that people who watch football don’t have the intelligence to understand ‘big words’ as you put it.
I’ve got 4 tickets right next to me here. Unfortunately I think my mates would lynch me if I sold them.
Can’t wait for tomorrow.
CMON ME BABBIES!!!
64, go on sell 2 of them to meee
£30 each ??
NATHAN..WBA IS A BIG WORD FOR MOST OF THE TESCOS.
US WOLVES FANS KNEW EXACTLY WHAT YOU MEANT.
BEING EDUCATED THE NATHAN LLOYD WAY..IN STYLE OF COURSE..OH YES.
60. soupy
Definition of Quixotic ‘Caught up in the romance of noble deeds and the pursuit of unreachable goals; idealistic without regard to practicality.’ Just for the people who wandered what Mr Lloyd was on about, if this is the big word you were on about.
Also wolves can read big words everyone knows terryisamuppetbaggie is the same as terryi’mjealousofwolvesbaggie.
FACT 2 out of every 3 lauras cant spel boing boing look out tuesday
Wow Wolves fans have outdone themselves today.
Sexist and under the false belief and Baggies fans are dumb.
Not clever.
terrywearetopbaggie (68)
If you are going to criticize someone’s spelling, at least get the word ‘spell’ correct!
imnotwolveswolves
Wandered, what like a cloud??
I think you meant wondered, oh come on everybody else is doing it!!
All the best, see you Tuesday, but not in a pub!!
Maybe you could wonder your way down!!!
Unhappily I think the present very fragile bubble will burst - meaning a draw and a loss will be all that Wolves will get out of Bristol and wba.
Agree with “3. wolveswolves” that automatic promotion is way. Not all of the six teams ahead of us will goon losing streaks. But we can dream.
oops - missed the word “off” after way.
Since i’m here I think the reason the bubble is fragile is MM not knowing how to do it.Please letme be wrong.
Never mind quixotic, what does optomistic mean? We have not dropped “outside of” the top six, either - we have dropped “out of” the top six
Oh come on, quixotic is a perfectly good word - especially when referring to WWFC. If you don’t understand it, read a dictionary. While you’re at it you might find that ‘optomistic’ is spelt ‘optImistic’. The general illiteracy of this page makes us sound like Baggies’ fans!
Bilstonian (74)
Do you ever actually ever have an opinion on football? It’s quite sad that week after week you only come on here to find fault with my spelling or grammar.
I tell you what, next week why don’t you have an attempt at some maturity and summon up an opinion about what happened at Ashton Gate or perhaps your views on the Albion match.
I write this blog from a fan’s perspective and do so completely gratis.
To read all the replies to the blog is extremely rewarding. People agree or disagree with certain points raised and that’s the whole point.
Unfortunately you seem to have a different agenda and rather than raise anything valid you simply act as a petty pedagogue.
Shame.
Nathan (76) Ouch!
At game on sat, need 2 win these games as Bristol were very poor + were more than happy with a share of the points. The lads need 2 beat Albion + push on for promotion. Good luck from the fab four,Dave,Bill,Tony+Burky
Five games left, four at home - surely we can do the play-off’s.
Tricky games to come, but we are only chasing Palace who have three to play & games against Watford/Hull both away aint gonna be easy for them either.
Keep the Faith lads.
Mad Mick - keep growling at em!!!!!!!!!!
Bilstonian… that told ya!
