Shock as yobs beat duck to death

A landlady has hit out at teenage yobs who brutally battered a duck to death outside her Bilston pub.

Regulars at The Grapes pub raced outside to challenge the louts who were attacking the petrified creature with a stick.

The gang, who were all aged in their early teens, fled after customers who had been drinking at the pub confronted them.

But the rescue bid proved too late for the duck, which later died of its injuries.

Landlady Annemarie Perrin said she was sickened by the brutal attack, which happened at the Grapes Pool, outside the Moseley Road pub on Wednesday afternoon.

“I’d never seen anything like the way they battered that poor duck, they were hitting it with a stick and it flew up into the air,” she said. “Two of our customers ran over to them and were shouting at them to leave the duck alone.” The landlady said the pool was usually a picturesque, peaceful place, and the actions of the louts were not only harming the wildlife but also ruining the spot for other people.

She said: “It is a lovely pool, people would pay millions of pounds for the view I have outside my window. There are about 200 geese and there was one duck, until now.

“It’s a nice place to take toddlers to feed the ducks, but then kids go and do something like this.

“I have seen people throwing sticks at the ducks before but these children were battering the duck.” Miss Perrin said after it was attacked, the bird had vanished from the pool but she had found it dead yesterday morning.

Miss Perrin, who has been the landlady at the pub for the past seven years, said there were also problems with youths hanging around the pool and flinging lifebelts into the water.

She said she planned to report the attack on the duck to the RSPCA. Miss Perrin said she also planned to contact Wolverhampton City Council about the problem. She said she hoped action could be taken or patrols stepped up around the pool to stop the menace.

“They were not wearing school uniforms but they were only young teenagers who should have been in school,” she added.”

She said there had been around three youngsters involved in the attack on the duck.

total cretins!!!!! hopefully they will come across someone who will beat them with sticks. no point trying to say ‘beat some sense into them’ as that ship has long since sailed. youths like that make me sick, and the worst thing about it is that we will have to keep paying for these ‘maggots’ when they make their way through borstal and finally hit prison, after all that is the only path ‘wasters’ like this will take.

Corfield got 16 weeks for cutting up a horse with a butchers knife, Glazzard got 16 weeks for putting his dog in the washing machine and killing it - what will they get for killing a duck? ….. afterall, they are only animals. The legal system STINKS and needs to be changed NOW - THIS IS MURDER!

Well having had personal experience of youth like these. And seeing this type of behaviour on a daily basis, I am begining to wonder if the only solution to these type of youths is euthenasia. Will solve the problem and remove the scum from the streets ! Nothing will ever become of them and they will just be another statistic on the crime records for most of lives. So why not just cut them dead in their tracks before they can get any worse !

The government needs to put together a crack team and just take them out on the sly.

Bring back national service, we need to teach these yobs some discipline and respect!!!!

Just imagine what their children will turn out like in the future if they have any. I really don’t like this country anymore. :(

Can’t scum like these be shipped off to labs somewhere and used for testing instead of animals. That would be an appropriate solution i think!

I admire your sentiment, but if you have
a son or daughter, would you like them to
serve in a theatre of war alongside cowardly
    scum like these?.

It amazes me that these yobs did*nt tell our Police about those people telling them to stop it then our old bill could have them fined for threatening behaviour such is the stupid laws in the country…

This country seems to be beyond hope and beyond repair. If the witnesses of this awful event had done the same to these idiots a vast majority would have applauded. I know I would. Yet they would have probably got in even more trouble.

This country needs to go back to years gone by or adopt some other countries punishments. If someone is caught for theft then chop off their hands so they can’t do it again. If someone kills someone else unlawfully then lets kill them. If a man is convicted of rape then castrate him.

Lets bring these scumbags to justice and publicly humiliate them and use that as a deterrent. Where this case is concerned I would gladly pay to watch the idiots brought to Bilston town centre on a Sunday morning to see them beaten with sticks. This is the way forward.

Another mindless act by the youth of the day, I cannot for the life of me see why!!! What a pity the geese didn’t attack them, they would have had to have their nappies changed. If they only used their energy for good deeds, they could be wealthy by the time they mature into adults, I hope it comes back to bite them.
