Mick McCarthy has ordered his Wolves promotion hopefuls to show the spirit of stand-in captain Karl Henry to clinch a play-off spot.
Wolves dropped out of the Championship’s top six on Monday following Crystal Palace’s surprise win at Stoke.
Buit McCarthy’s side have two games in hand on both sides, as well as Saturday’s opponents Bristol City and the Molineux gaffer remains convinced the team can achieve a top-six spot.
And he wants his players display the same determination as Henry, who he revealed overcame injury to grab the 94th winner at Charlton 11 days ago.
“Karl Henry wasn’t even going to play because he had a bad neck,” said McCarthy.”He ricked his neck and he was ‘touch and go’ and ended up scoring the winner in the 94th minute winner.
“I think that’s remarkable. That’s what I want from all my players.”
McCarthy wants his entire squad to be on full alert in the countdown to the play-offs.”Every single player needs to be highly motivated,” he said.
“They’re all here scrapping, kicking, barking and biting as they were a week last Saturday when they showed great levels of team spirit.
“Every one of them showed desire, determination, motivation and fitness.”
And following Freddy Eastwood’s failed move to Coventry, McCarthy insists no decisions will be made on players’ futures until the summer.
“We spoke with Coventry and I’ve dealt with that.
“I’ve been pleased with his reaction over the last few weeks,” he said.
“Nothing can happen anyway until the end of the season - Real Madrid could ring me about him and he couldn’t go anywhere because the transfer window’s shut.”

18 out of 18 = top 2 !! hmmmm, possible? 11 out of 18 = play offs, should be a definite!
Did you hear that mowbray took his team training on blackpool beach yesterday and got booted off by the donkey rides owner because he thought mowbray was trying to take over his business!!
we do need the boys right up for it on saturday, and karl along with a few others who have displayed great courage in recent games, can keep us winning and climbing the table.
it’s a cert we’ll make the play offs if we contine this awesome run we’re on, and with the teams around us messing up as they are..second place is still very makable.
it’s in our own hands luckily, other results don’t matter providing we get the points we need when we need them. due to palace beating stoke on monday..we definately need 3 points from the bristol game to keep the games in hand safe.
ONE GAME AT A TIME BOYS..LOOK NO FURTHER THAN SATURDAY’S GAME.
MAKIN’ THE PLAY OFFS THE MCARTHY WAY..IN STYLE OF COURSE..OH YES.
I would think even if we got 18 points it maynot be enough for automatic and I doubt given the opposition we are playing we will win all six.
We lost our opportunity for a top two position in the dark days of winter. Talking of giving people a bad neck nice to see Mick has broken his silence, shame he still can’t say anything meaningful.
hmmm same commitment as henry but dont play like him!!!! he can be world beater one game and just plain rubbish the next
Win the games in hand including West Brom and Wolves are effectively only 3 points behind.West Brom have mainly away games and Wolves only Bristol and Coventry.Must fancy a chance at automatic spot.
no 3 go and do one!
We need positive attitude not the likes of you.
Why look back on the past?
The boys are giving it 100% and we need to get behind the boys, like we no we all can.
“sing your hearts out for the lads”
no 6 l agree with you 100%, wolveswolves, Mr Negitive as l call him has’nt got a deasant thing to say about Wolves, who hes supposed to support, l wish he and the others like him shoved off somewhere else, find some other very unlucky team to subject there form of support on. We need all the fans to get right behind MM and the lads now, for the push into the premiership. Cmon the Wolves !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 Nige Wolf
Didn’t hear that. But I did hear that the police caught two Baggies fans climbing over the wall at The Poorthorns. But they made them go back in!
Up The Wolves.
I dunno about the Henry influence.
Mickey Gray must take some of the credit for influencing the team with his never say die attitude of late!
I also would like to add to my earlier post that I apologise for the abuse I`ve given MM over the season. He`s actually doing a great job and I have been a bit of a pratt to say the least.
Now lets all get behind him and cheer us on to play off victory.
southbank barmy army, well done for admitting you`ve been a pratt, your attacks on mccarthy have incensed us all, the fact that you now love him to bits is rather amusing.
10) I’m sure you’ll have changed your mind again in six games time.
I know people knock me for being negative but at least I’m consistent.
Two months ago everyone one here was saying Mick out, amazing how fickle most of you are.
The form has changed over two months. Most people admit that MM has something to do with that, WolvesWolves. That is not being fickle. That is realising that what he was getting wrong is now being put right. I have also been consistent. I have always thought MM would get us up given a chance.
oh my god no.12
you are the one which is actually keep bringing up all this negativity.
YH fans were fickle but just forget it and lets bring atmosphere to the games home and away.
12. Consistently negative. You must be very proud of yourself.
It’s good to see supporters getting behind the team. It doesn’t matter what the other teams do, it’s in our own hands. All we can do is give our team 100% backing, win lose or draw, for the remaining six matches. We are all confident that we can give a good account of ourselves away from home and we should make the playoffs. It’s up to us to pile the pressure on the away team. We can do it and the supporters have a massive part to play.
yes Mr Negative your consistant alright, consistantly stupid.
Talking of spirit - I’ll have a G&T please and a double if we beat that lot in Bristol on Saturday!!
13) Brereton - you are consistently blind, even when Mick was screwing up you thought he was doing a great job.
I can’t fault Henry at Charlton but there has been times where he should have been dropped this season.
I would say the battle has come from Elokobi, Craddock, Gray and Ebanks-Blake mainly.
Anyway the top 2 might be difficult as we are relying on others dropping points. But there is no reason why we won’t win 3 and draw 3 or better and that will get us in the shake up. If that happens no one will want to face us as we wont have lost since Preston and that was another dodgy penalty!
any else going tha bristol game? gna cheer on the lads!
anyone else going bristol game? gna cheer on tha lads
whoops put it 2x
19. That train left the station weeks ago mate. The team is playing well and fulfulling its’ potential. Time to support and not dwell on negative times.
Right - Wolves and Baggies fans alike it’s time to stick your necks out and make a prediction
Automatic Promotion - WBA and Stoke
Via Play Offs - Wolves
Any more for any more ?
Now lets not knock wolveswolves, he has his opinion and just so long as that doesn’t creep into the moineux then that is fine.
Fair play to the bloke for sticking by his guns and owning up to it. I have supported MM through thick and thin and although I whole heartedly disagree with his views I respect do his standpoint.
I have noticed over recent weeks that many a poster on here seem to have gone full circle on MM and whilst that is good for the club I personally think they are all idiots who probably cost us a few points throughout our dark winter!
Although there has been some dross this season, I think MM reign has been the most exciting down the Wolves for many years!!!
So for now up the Wolves, up MM and let’s all get behind the lads for what is sure to be an exciting conclusion to the season!
Come on me babbies!!!!
Lads it’s time to get behind the team at home, that will make the difference and give us the unbelievable chance of automatic promotion.
I do so hope the future is Gold ‘N’Black!!
I will be fully supporting the team as I always do on Saturday. With the results last night it’s looking better and better for us to get into the playoffs. Then it’s lottery time
Wolveswolves, I do not wear rose-colured specs with Mick McCarthy. I always felt he would get us up. Whether that is this season, we will see. Given the time and support though, he will get us up. Of corse he has made mistakes this season. We all do. He has had some horrific injury lists to deal with though. It’s easy to pick your best 11 when all of your players are fit. With a big injury list though, you sometimes have to experiment. It’s all well and good to say bring someone in on loan to give you cover, but the wages are then added to your existing wages bill, and that can lead to problems like Luton, Bournemouth, Leeds, Forest, etc. This club is run on a sound financial basis, and this is proven by MM going for the “young hungry” players that will stand us in good stead when we do go up. We won’t be scrabbling around for 33 and 34 year-olds that come for one last pay-day. (Incey, Breen, Irwin and Gray being the exceptions to that when they arrived in their thirties.)
and who is at the top of the league.
Only good thing for you lot is, that you have that world beater S Ward back, Mad MM will drop SEB for him.
