Keogh says promotion buzz back

keoghgoal22.jpgStriker Andy Keogh today warns Wolves’ play-off rivals that his team-mates have got the “promotion buzz” again.

Keogh is counting down the days until Saturday’s crunch promotion clash at Bristol City which will end a fortnight’s inactivity for a Wolves side coming to the boil at just the right time.

They lost their top six placing last night with Crystal Palace’s victory at Stoke moving Neil Warnock’s side into the last of the play-off places.

It ramps up the pressure still further on all the Championship promotion challengers scrambling for a top six finish - and Keogh believes that is going to bring the best out of Mick McCarthy’s squad.

“I’m really looking forward to the run-in,” he says.”I’d have been absolutely gutted if we’d been sat here with six games to go just maintaining Championship status.

“These are the type of games and situations you want to be involved in, the games that everyone watches.

“What’s the point of playing football if you don’t want to be on the big stage?

“It was similar this time last season and I remember how everyone was buzzing and really looking forward to the next game.

“We dug deep and managed to get there and hopefully we’re going to do the same again.”

Wolves are eager to pick up where they left off at Charlton and the Bristol City clash is followed by the Black Country derby and the visit of fellow contenders Ipswich.

Keogh added: “Obviously we want nine points from those three games, but six or seven would also leave us very happy particularly as they are against our rivals.

“Those three teams are up there for the same reason we are, because they are good teams, and if we could get two wins out of the three it would be brilliant.

“These next three are massive because the teams are around us. We don’t want Ipswich going ahead of us or West Brom moving further away.”

Fair play to the lad. Bounced back from the criticism he received against QPR superbly, now adding goals to his game. It was all that lacking. SEB & Keogh are gunna get cha!

I reckon 4 wins from the last 6 would almost certainly cement a play off spot. Would be even better if one of those was against Tesco.

Me too Andy! Am starting to get nervous but I think the squad have it in them to achieve at least a play-off spot.

With how the results have been going just lately there’s still a chance of grabbing an automatic place, although we should concentrate on a play-off place first.

CMON ME BABBIES!!! We can do it!!

YES WE’RE ALL BUZZING NOW ANDY..SO COME ON LAD KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ALONG SIDE SEB..

looking at the table this morning, i get the impression to miss out on a top 6 place now would be a disaster. we’re one point outside, with 1 or more games in hand. we still have to play 4 of our rivals, who will all be playing each other anyway.

it’s in our own hands luckily, and i can’t see us blowing now. we’re on fire at the moment and teams around us are faltering big time. bristol can’t buy a win at the moment, 3 points there and we’re well on the way.. then 3 more off the tescos on tuesday, should see us virtually safe (depending on other results) of course.

    3. nah it will be nice to celebrate watching the your lots promotion push END at the molineux. knowing we have dragged you into a play-off battle like last year, ermm like us didnt you only guarantee a play-off place on the last game of the season???

  12. ev123uk said:

Palace have watford and hull away to follow scunthorpe so you wouldnt expect them to get 6 points from that. Its in our hands to reach the play offs and thats all you can ask for at this stage of the season.

Its our recent results that offer the optimism. The outcome of good team selection, especially SEB and AK. In addition, we now have a good, strong bench.

    Support the Wolves

and you lot do the same.
couple of months ago it was.
1, we will walk this division.
2, we are far superior than everyone else in this division.

now all we hear is if we go up.
if we are in the play offs.
if we win the cup! oh sorry about that one you’ve already been brought back down to earth with a bump.
if we don’t win anything or go up at least we have had a great season.
if thats ambition you can keep it.
small town club. small ambition that is why you are always satisfied with what you get.

and also what happened to we never boo our players. shall we ask your keeper about that.

  18. wolves boo-boy said:

Andy stick to the football and keep improving (as you are), if we do have a PR dept let them deal with the media. Concentrate on the 3 goals you are going to score against Bristol City.

I am glad that there is a buzz around the dressing room. If sheer guts and determination wins the day at Bristol like we did at home to QPR we will be in the play offs. Keogh do us a favour can you let the newcomers know what the atmosphere will be like when we play the Albion on Tuesday 15th April. You know what it will mean to the fans if we win that game.

    Come on the Wolves

off the subject here but does anybody know if there will be any pubs open on the night of the albion game? before and after? i’ve heard every place has been told to close, has anybody else heard anything?

  23. DudzieWolf said:

Jan, what newcomers are you referring to? The transfer deadline closed the end of Jan. Oh, and how did we win at home to QPR? You obviously weren’t there. I’ll let you know, it was 3-3. Call it persistant never say die attitude.

  24. Wolfman said:

All the teams above us still have to play each other at least once so they will all be dropping points (except Charlton, but we’ve got two games in hand over them).

If we win our last six matches and the others keep dropping points as per recent form,, we will finish top or 2nd.
Realistically though, it will be the play-offs.

  25. Bournemouth Wolf said:

Against Bristol City - Space make sure they havn’t got any, close them down quickly. Commitment loads of needed to win. Pace - plenty of to get a good rhythm going. 90 mins + injury time - keep going right until the end. Defend - stoutly. Don’t give stupid free kicks away around the box - it can be very costly. Goals - make sure we score more than the opposition to win. End of!

Imagine that Boggies, Wolves go up, Boggies stay down and you lose at Wembley again.

    Europe my arse.

Nathan Baggie, your lot are providing quite enough laughs as it is… you giant douche!

Dont crit the general wolves fan based on the knee jerkers who trawl these pages… it is not a fair representation. BUT, if one is going to slate the players/manager for playing poorly, then you must surely by default, applaud good behaviour.

Now run along baggie you’ve got a severe case of hiccups to tend to
