Bothroyd unable to face club

jay.jpgMick McCarthy has moved to allay fears Jay Bothroyd could play against Wolves in the play-offs.

Fans feared the striker, currently on loan at promotion-chasing rivals Stoke, may be allowed to play against his parent club if they meet in the end of season showpiece.

But manager McCarthy laughed off any prospect of that scenario happening.

Bothroyd’s initial spell at the Britannia Stadium is due to expire on Friday, although Stoke have the option of extending it to 93 days.

“If Stoke end up in the play-offs and we played them it’s quite clear he wouldn’t be playing,” said McCarthy.”He’s on loan at Stoke but it’s indefinite - he’s gone for a month with the option of extending it because it was an emergency loan, so it can be for up to 93 days, which would cover the rest of the season.

“It depends on how Tony (Pulis) views it. We’ve got 24-hour recall on any loan player who leaves here after the first 28 days.”

Stoke remained second in the Championship despite last night’s surprise 2-1 home defeat by Crystal Palace, a result which saw the Eagles leapfrog Wolves into the top six by a point.

But McCarthy’s men have two games in hand on both sides, and trail Stoke by eight points.

Bothroyd came on as a 77th minute substitute for Stephen Pearson with Stoke 2-0 down, but athough Glenn Whelan reduced the arrears with five minutes left, the Potteries side couldn’t rescue a point.

The 25-year-old forward moved to Stoke on March 14 and has made four appearances for Tony Pulis’s side, but only one start and has so far failed to score.

Wolves reserve Elliott Bennett has had his loan to League Two club Bury extended for another three weeks.

Meanwhile, Kyle Bennett has been called up into the England under-18 squad for the friendly against Austria next week. The game is e a week tomorrow at Hartlepool FC.

Kyle said: “I was totally surprised when I heard the news, it was a tremendous thrill.

“I was on standby for the England under 16s 18 months ago, but this is the first time I’ve been actually named in a squad.

“There is no bigger honour than playing for your country.”

OH NO! Please let him play! Since hes been at Stoke, they havnt managed a decent performance or win!

Masterstroke by Mick McCarthy who knows what Bothroyd is really like and how he may destabilise the team.

    Thats a shame.

If he did play that would mean Wolves would be playing against ten and not eleven Stoke players!!

We wouldn’t even know he was there until he got substituted.

“fans” soon forget that goal against the checkout girls at molineux last season. it baffles me why we get so many tesco bags on our blogs. i don’t even know where their’s are. i guess its a real thrill to be able to post jibes & thicko attempts at “humour” on our sites, if you are some sort of inadequate loser?

    5. seems weird how we let him go, our performances pick up and stokes where he ends up at drop. perhaps he was huge pain in the a$$ and mick finally dealt with it!

I’d prefer him not to play by a long shot… he was lazy and inconsistent… but that left foot, i’d be nervous everytime he tried one from 20yrds as we’ve all seen what it can do!

Oh, Terrywantonbaggie, I do recall him score a goal at Molineux… the winner against some blue + white rivals if memory serves me correct

Would like to know where all those folks are now that were berating MM at the time he farmed Bothroyd out on loan… I think his goalscoring record at Stoke speaks for itself. ‘One bad apple’ and all that. Hope he never plays in a Wolves shirt again - his laziness would make Nathan Blake and Robert Taylor look lively!

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Wolves form and team spirit have improved since Bothroyd left. I hope they extend his loan and if he played against the Wolves I would be delighted.

my god, Terry Baggies is an un-employable litte wretch of a man who is in his 50’s, has no friends, social life are sex life and his only joy is to come onto this messageboard and taken on all these aliases….

Terry please has some dignity and dont be a plank. I can give some advice if you like, why dont you log off your computer, jump in the bath and have a wash, then pop some clothes on and have a walk to your local pastry shop and buy your a pie. Come home with it and have a conversation with it, you might feel alot better if you did because its the level of intelligence you are accumstomed to.

    Goodbye!

Off topic. I have lived outside the UK for many years, an honest question…

Why do most Albion posters, continually end their, usual, inane drivel with ‘boing boing’. Is that the name of the Special school, youth club, they all attend or are they all fans of Zebberdy, from magic roundabout.

    It does seem very childish.

  31. Paul Reid said:

I’d just like to say to you Albion fans who have commented above, I’ve never even looked at any news about your club…..
    Thanks for your interest though.
