A late Kevin Phillips double and an Ishmael Miller goal saw Albion go top of the table.
Tony Mowbray’s men overtook Bristol City at the summit when super substitute Phillips scored twice in three minutes.
Albion had earlier appeared to be suffering a Wembley hangover, Ben Burgess giving the home side the lead in the 35th minute.
After running Portsmouth so close, Albion again seemed unable to find the net until the 81st minute, when the veteran striker scored a penalty following a foul on Carl Hoefkens.
His second from six yards, three minutes later, put Albion on course for the top.
Miller made certain by lobbing the keeper on 87 minutes to cap off a frantic end to the match.

This is an immense result in the context. Not because it was away from home or because of who we were playing but because of Saturdays game. I thought this was a banana skin waiting to happen. Three days after a semi final defeat which would have been mentally shattering as well as physically tiring. I don’t care that we played poorly, the fact that we kept going for 90 minutes speaks volumes for the character in the team. Taking nothing for granted but this could be the catalyst, the game that when we look back we say this was this season’s Bradford.

Do not be fooled up until the introduction of Super Kev we were awful, first shot on target in the 79th minute. Mowbrays starting eleven and formation was baffling, Blackpool should have been three up by half time, but then came the last ten minutes and we ran riot.
If it has taught Mowbray anything, it should be that when fit Phillips must start every game now until the end of the season.
Good fighting spirit last night and solid result.That’s what all teams need to see in this part of the season. So is promising sign.

We8WBA. I’ve covered this on another thread but think it worth a mention. In this division because of our style of play, when we look good we look very good. The problem is teams without a lot of ambition IE Leicester can make life difficult by being organised. It’s much more difficult for them to play this way against the chuck it in the air teams like Hull, Stoke and Watford. The problem is that the up and at ‘em style doesn’t work in the Prem and you can’t totally change your personnel and playing style in a few months if you get automatic or weeks through the play offs. If we break the hoodoo and get up by playing football then I think some of the bigger clubs, yourselves,Charlton, Ipswich and a few others may well adopt the same tactics next season. The ones that don’t go up this season of course.I’d be interested to hear what others think and good luck to both our clubs in reaching the prem.
At the end of the day it was a good result for us, regardless of how we played. Quite frankly at this point in the season, i’ll take the rubbish play and 3-1 victories. Although I really don’t think my nerves can take much more. I think Luke Moore played well for us last night, without much success, his work rate was fantastic. He was trying to prove his worth, and to the baggies fans that he want’s to be play for us and succeed. I have to admit this game worried me as I could see us loosing it, so I am more than happy with the final result.

Like Tim (94) I listened to the whole game on the radio, and he’s right, we were poor last night till the 80th minute, but that’s the sign of a good side, winning when you don’t play well. Should be a good game next Tuesday, hopefully SEB won’t get a sniff (just like when we played Plymouth away). We played with a weakened side last night, I’m sure Gera, Bednar & Phillips will play a bigger part on Saturday and at the custard bowl (can’t wait).

We struggled and looked jaded first half but looked much better when Morrison came on for Pele and we adopted a more orthodox 4-4-2. From 60 minutes on we dominated and Super Kev provided the additional goal power!! You may have noted (but won’t admit it!!) that the same commentators also stated that “no other team in the division would have the devestating fire-power to be able to do what Albion have just done”!!

Well, a couple of Wolves fans seem to have their heads screwed on. Pity there aren’t more. Looking at the majority of the Wolves postings, you’d think Wolverhampton was a city full of imbeciles.
Over the moon with last night’s win. Does it really matter that we didn’t play them off the park? How many times have we done that and got nothing?

I’m a Wolf in exile by the seaside. Went to game last night. Blackpool were robbed by a v. dodgy ref and some classic smash & grab by Phillips. for 80 mins A****n were 2nd best. Then a poor penalty shout gave you a lifeline. Every credit, you took it but if Blackpool could finish, you’d have lost by 2 or 3. So don’t get too carried away because better teams will turn you over cause last night you were lightweight until last 10 (with a bias ref!)

Fair play A*bion, I actually didn’t think you would win after the disappointment of the FA Cup loss. That’s not coming from gold n black tinted specs either.
On the other hand, I don’t think you’re predictions of a 7-0 win are going to be acurate, it will be a tight game and I can see a few goals, maybe a 3-2 win for either side.
I do actually hope you get promoted automatically, because from an honest point of view I think you would be too strong for us over two legs. I’d like to see the Black Country derby in the top flight next season, as I’m sure a lot of you do. Anyway, good luck for Tuesday, hoping for a Wolves win to continue our good form but whoever wins, let’s all hope this area has two teams in the Premiership next season.
