Relieved Gabriel Agbonlahor revealed Villa boss Martin O’Neill has been key to keeping his spirits high after ending his 12-match goal drought with his first of 2008.
Agbonlahor’s goal in saturday’s 4-0 win over Bolton was his first since netting the winner in the 2-1 win at Wigan on December 29 and only his second in 20 games after hitting seven in his first 15.
“The gaffer’s been brilliant through the run,” he said.
“He’s told me to play my normal game and the goals would come. What matters is the team scoring, not who scores them.
“But when a striker scores a goal it means a lot to you. It was the same for Marlon (Harewood) who scored his first home goal since joining.
“It’s been a while and it was nice to end this run with a goal in front of the Holte End. You could see that from my celebration.”
