Victim hurt in machete attack

A machete-wielding masked gang attacked a man in broad daylight in a Smethwick street, leaving him with a host of wounds and injuries.

The 30-year-old victim is now recovering from potentially life-threatening injuries after the attack, which happened just before midday yesterday in Dibble Road.

He received a number of wounds and injuries to his face and body and was taken to City Hospital where he is said to be in a stable condition today.

There were four or five attackers, all described as Asian males aged around 30 years old, between 5ft 8ins and 6ft tall. They all wore dark clothing and had their faces covered.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said the victim suffered life-threatening injuries from the attack and was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.
