Father delivers baby in lounge

A stunned father delivered his new baby daughter on the living room floor after his partner went into labour at home in Wolverhampton.

A relaxing Sunday evening bath turned into one of the most memorable nights of Darren Friel’s life after partner Sally Hallsworth’s contractions started.

Mr Friel called an ambulance to take 26-year-old Miss Hallsworth to New Cross Hospital, but the impatient baby had no intention of waiting and so the 33-year-old security consultant had to turn midwife.

Mr Friel, the Liberal Democrat candidate for East Park, was talked through what to do by hospital staff before paramedics arrived.

Little Keyliegh Ann came into the world at 7.45pm, weighing 7lbs 2oz.
