Boss challenges Wolves youngster

marklittle3.jpgWolves boss Mick McCarthy today welcomed back Mark Little from Northampton with a challenge to realise his potential.

Little is back at Molineux and ready to rejoin the club’s play-off push after impressing on a 93-day loan with the League One side, who still have fellow Molineux player Daniel Jones for the season.

The 19-year-old defender has impressed at Sixfields, where Stuart Gray’s side have lost just three of the 17 games he’s played.

And McCarthy has challenged Little to reproduce the form that saw him play regularly in the first half of last season.

“Mark played really well last season, but the reality is he should be a better player,” said McCarthy.

“But with a lot of young lads, it doesn’t always follow that they will be as consistent as they were.

“They play three at the back at Northampton and he’s done well at right-back and centre-back.

“He’s playing week in, week out and that’s where you improve.”

Little admits he’s got to step it up if he’s to challenge again.

“Last year we did well when the young lads were playing and this year it’s been more difficult for us,” he said.

“We’ve not been involved but I don’t think it’s down to our age, it’s down to performances.

“The young players aren’t doing what Mick McCarthy needs them to do in his team at the moment.

“I don’t think it’s about age – Mick is a fair man and if you’re outstanding you’ll get in the team however old you are.”

Little is determined to challenge for a place, adding: “It’ll be great to get back to Wolves and see if I can get back in the side.

“Hopefully Mick McCarthy will have been getting some good reports about me. I’ll be looking to prove what I’m capable of.”

McCarthy has ruled out any loan departures on a permanent basis.

COME ON MICK, THEY DON’T HAVE TO BE A ROONEY OR RONALDO TO GET IN THE TEAM..BUT WE DO NEED THEM TO BE BETTER THAN WARD, ELLIOTT AND KYLE.

GIVE THEM A CHANCE..YOU JUST SAID YOURSELF THEY NEED TO BE PLAYING WEEK IN WEEK OUT TO IMPROVE.

AND YOUR THE ONE WHO PICKS THE TEAM..SO PLAY EM’.

  5. wolvesmod said:

yes give him a go, but not ’til pre season. Too risky at this stage of the season. Experience needed.

I would go for Little every time on account of Foley being a liability! (Have you seen Foley play lately?)

I msut agree re Rosa. He’s had a well rough deal from McCartney.

Did Little himself not say it’s about performances? He hasn’t been performing well enough, simple as that. 7 - What? Apart from central defence and Gray the team is FULL of youngsters. Fair enough they have all been brought in, but the academy lads have had bad luck with injuries or simply haven’t put in the performances.
Having said that Little has the potential to be very good indeed. Now is not the time to put him though, we need experience and why change a winning team?

A question for all the Baggies supporters who plauge this site. Did they call your ground The Hawthorns because at least once a week its full of p—-s?

  13. wolveswolves said:

    11. “Fair enough they have all been bought in ”
Exactly the point I’m making Mick has not developed our academy players at all. Who are there role model? none they will all leave us if they don’t get a chance

  14. Bournemouth Wolf said:

MM says playing week in week out helps improve your game. SO why didn’t he give the same chance to FE?

  15. Ron Davies said:

If anybody else uses the phrase, ‘put a shift in’, I will remind them that it was a well-worn phrase of that ‘failure’ of a manager, Dave Jones; what a record eh! Promoted Wolves and now rescued Cardiff in the FA cup final? But there again, goals change games, or is that a Cloughy derrivative of it only takes a second?

  16. Newbridge Wolf said:

    11. I was thinking the same thing, fact is Little was thrust into the first team very early last season and coped resonably well, but was prone to being shown up. I believe that he will develop into a first team player, just that he needs a bit of time.

Untill we appoint a new Youth director, things may slow up a little from the youth set up which is worrying because this years group was seen with massive potential. Hopefully their development will not be affected

Your right, we have slipped bsck from where we were only a few years ago. We have a habit of throwing out the baby with the bath water!

  19. wolveswolves said:

    15. I wish we had Dave Jones now, a very good manager whose been largely successful most places he’s managed.

  20. No ifs or buts said:

Is Kent Wolf a Wolves Fan? Who is McCartney?

Mark Little is 19 and made a good start. Next season will be his best chance yet. Denes Rosa will find his right level next season, probably League One.

We’ve had players out on loan at League 1 and League 2, because thats a better level for them to play than the reserves.

Good luck Denes where ever you go.

    Support the Wolves

DARBY END.. NO THAT’S NOT WHAT I SAID IS IT?.

MICK HAS PLAYED SEVERAL PLAYERS OUT OF POSITION THIS SEASON, RATHER THAN PLAY THE YOUNGER LADS WHO DID SO WELL LAST YEAR. NO HE PREFERED TO LOAN THEM OUT INSTEAD, AND YOU KNOW WE HAVE STRUGGLED IN MIDFIELD AND DEFENCE IN MANY GAMES.

BUT THINGS ARE GOING WELL NOW, AND NO I WOULDN’T CHANGE THE CURRENT SQUAD MEMBERS AT THIS STAGE OF THE SEASON.

  22. Breretonwolf said:

21, you know I am a MM fan, but I think there is a lot of sense in your last comments. Still, let’s see what next season brings.

WolvesWolves, it was people like you that chased Dave Jones out of the club by booing him constantly after we came down, and didn’t have a great start. I still get embarassed that we got rid of him in the way we did. (Don’t try and blame Sir Jack and Moxey. They reacted to the crowd. Let’s hope Morgan has more sense.) It’s funny how you boo-boys olways look back and compliment managers AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN CHASED OUT!!

Best of luck to DJ at Wembley. I would love to see him win the Cup.

    arise sir NWANKWO KANU

  25. Loyal-Cannock-Wolf said:

    6. Terry, Northampton wanted him permanent. We obviously let his loan run out… Play him in place of Foley, he’s been rubbish lately apart from that brilliant ball to SEB against Charlton.

  26. untitled said:

to be honest, id rather wait till next season to see him in action, lets no rock a boat thats making its way happily down the river eh? though i gota say, he’d be very usefull to have on the bench incase our CB’s start gettin turned by pace (specially against that albion lot)
goin up the mccarthy way (clumsy and through blind luck)

  27. mr smug said:

thats twice you’ve agreed with me now kent wolf… something just isn’t right.

  28. Joe said:

“Mark played really well last season, but the reality is he should be a better player,” said McCarthy.

What is the meant to mean? Is he saying Little isn’t good enough?

  29. MARKTIPTON said:

I thought Mark did really well last season. And personnally would not hesitate to put him back into the side

  30. Patrick Star said:

I gather you lot all escaped from Rampton today.
    Rosa outstanding ? LOL !!!
Rosa is painfully average and might be top scorer in the Reserves/Pub “football” but so was super strikers Glen Crowe, Colin Larkin & Leon Clarke.
    See a pattern Dingles ?
As for Little he is a good right back but he is not better than Foley or any worse.
Anyone remember Koumas ripping Little to shreads last season ?

  31. wolveswolves said:

    22. How dare you blame me for Dave Jones leaving, you don’t even know me you idiot.
For the record I never booed Dave Jones and was gutted when he left the Wolves. If it was up to people like you we would still have Hoddle.

  32. Stevo said:

    6.You moron - didn’t Albion take Clement back ?
Why don’t you boing boing back to your own website and have a good cry with the rest of the tesco bags

  33. wolfie2468 said:

6, terry my friend. Mr Little has had to come back because the loan could not be renewed under transfer regulations set by FIFA. I thought you should alrady know that tho as you are the brightest bulb on the tree by a clear mile. I don’t normally reply to ppl like yourself as even u can’t be as thick as u make out but on this occasion, I’ll make an exception. C’MON WOLVES !!!!

  34. debigbadwolfman said:

brereton wolf.sorry to say this mate but i don’t recall any wolves fans hounding dave jones out of the club i think the only people responsible for sacking managers is, jez moxey and sir jack or themselves. its the same everywhere if you don’t do the business on the pitch you get sacked simple as but don’t come blarting that rubbish that we the fans got him sacked.i have been a season ticket holder for 14 years now and didn’t see any demonstrations or calls for dj to be sacked. “talk sense man.although i do agree we did get rid of dj a bit prematurely and he was let down by the board when we got promoted. “GOOD LUCK TO MICK AND ALL THE TEAM FOR THE LAST PUSH COME ON U WOLVES!

Breretonwolf…After Jonesey was dismissed I remember the South Bank singing “We want Jonesey back”. The SOuth Bank are the loudest and most influential vocalists of Molineux therefore if there was any booing that the executive were responding to it couldn’t have been to much of it and from a different area of the ground. I think Sir Jack never forgave him for letting the season slip when we lost out to the Faggies which was the year before we went up. Do you actually go to matches?
