Albion fans: FA Cup reaction

albionaction2.jpgWe want to hear from West Bromwich Albion fans for their views on the 1-0 semi final defeat to Portsmouth.

This post is for Albion fans only - no Wolves comments will be allowed

A second-half goal from Kanu was enough to send Portsmouth through to their first FA Cup final in 69 years.

But should the goal have stood after claims of handball before Dean Kiely denied Milan Baros and Zoltan Gera failed to clear.

Albion had their chances but Robert Koren’s shot hit the bar and Ishmael Miller fired wide late on.

Will this defeat set Albion back or can they push on to get promotion to the Premier League?

Did the narrow margin of defeat convince you that Albion can compete at the top level?

And is automatic promotion now a definite?

Well done Baggies, totally owned the game and the only goal came against the run of play. Now we need to carry the momentum into the Championship and get automatic.
And good on the E&S for not letting Wolves fans post their idiotic rantings and spiteful comments.

Pompey were there for the taking. i think we froze on the day apart from a couple of late chances whereby the game had slipped away. Kiely and Gera out. Not good enough for premiership along with many others. Sort it out now mowbs.

Well done baggies, you played really well. Good luck for the rest of the season. baggie boys, your’e right, you need quatity strikers in the Prem. Not saying Kanu and Baros are quality (Defoe is), but we have had an exceptional defence all season, you’re not the only team that we’ve beaten like this. All the best pompeyblue

What a wonderful performance from albion today, made me so proud to be a baggie, I think we deserved to win, but it wasn’t our day, but if albion keep playing like this there will be plenty more big games for albion fans to look forward to in the future.

We deserve automatic promotion and this team deserves to play premiership football, and todays performance will give a lot of confidence to albion players and fans that we can do more then just survive in the top flight. I still cant believe how amazing we were in the first half, we made pompey look like nothing, but the game has two half’s.

Although the fa cup was just a bonus this year, it still hurt when the final whistle went, but don’t worry baggies fans, we’ll be celebrating promotion in a months time.

So proud to be a baggie, ALBION TILL I DIE, you have not let us down.

  8. Baggie '88 said:

cheers pompeyblue, all the best in the league and cup, we’ll beat you next season ;-)

Let’s face my fellow Throstles, we lost to the bigger and better team. We should have never have sold Kanu, now its come back to haunt us.

  10. steve said:

sorry but i don’t buy the performance… it was the same same…controling the game 70% of play and fancy attacking football once again leaves us empty when it mattered.we were beaten, the winners always go off smiling even though like today they may not be worthy of it… in this day of the game it’s called business. wake up TM.. we,ve gone fom clinical defencive play (G megson) to pretty but inept TM.. i’ sick of great performance with the wrong result there was only one winner today… portsmouth

Just got back from the game and i’m not gutted at all. We showed the rest of the country that if we go up this season, we have the quality to compete against Premiership teams. I think we just lacked the cutting edge in the final third of the pitch today.

Well done baggies, you did us proud!!!!!!!!!

I am WBA fan from Kiev,Ukraine. I and all my friends who saw the game, said baggies were unlucky to make an equaliser, and the goal was really stupid…poor Gera (((

Hence we have Premiership quality at last in defence and i am totally confident in promotion this year!

    Boing Boing!!!

watched match live on sky in adelaide australia thought the baggies more than held there heads up i feel we were the better side on the day but as the saying goes no goal no win you can be the best team but at the end of the day it is goals that count now for the premiership we can do it boing boing from a devout baggie fan in ozz

  15. Maidenhead Baggie said:

Great day out and the team realy tried hard, but the Pompey defence were exceptional and much better than the Championship standard we normally face.

However, this should give us the confidence and determination to step up a gear on the promotion push. The other teams are nervous because they are all frightened of doing a Derby, whereas we have enough quality to compete with at least half the teams in the Prem.

  16. Grizzly said:

I have to agree with Steve. Campbell and Distin will not get an easier game. You will never win games playing pretty football in front of the opposition back four. You need a killer pass that gets them turned towards their own goal.

  17. Baggiesfaninessex said:

I was proud to be a Baggie and I always will be. But I do feel deflated and I would have taken a poor performance and a win rather than the good performance and the loss, any day of the week.

I feel we dominated in midfield yet for a team with the best scoring record in the league, we failed to find the net and apart from that super effort from Koren and Miller’s miss late on, we never really looked like scoring. Fair play to Pompey’s defence for that; they’re not 6th in the Premiership for nothing and defensively, they were awesome.

Come on you Baggies!!! Let’s push for promotion now and strengthen the squad further in the summer!! BOING BOING!

baggies, we’re all proud of you.

  20. steve said:

no great barr baggie they did not do us proud, portsmouth did their team proud.they in the FA CUP final….think that’s the problem with english folk in these times… they settle for proud as if that is as good as winning… like i said before the loser goes off to make their own arrangements so if it’s proud that rocks your boat i would imagine you are a loser too

  21. DiabloBaggie said:

Well, that just about sums this season up doesn’t it, every time we look like pushing through, the bloody attack, defence, midfield and keeper conspire to chuck it all away. If this keeps on we’re going nowhere. I don’t know what the rest of you are on about. WE LOST. Don’t you get it? We weren’t good enough, we failed to get anywhere near enough shots in considering the possession, if we do manage to go up, we’re gonna need a complete overhaul from the back up. TM OUT.

  22. Dances wiv dingles said:

Lets face it, if Pompey did not have good defenders they would be in the relegation zone, not in the the top six. The only way they were gonna win the game was through a dubious decision or a jammy goal, we gave them too much respect. Our lads should take great heart from the performance, pompey came to make sure they didn’t lose not to try and win - that’s professional football. My season ticket application is in the post for next season, this has been a good year and could still be a great one, remember, if the fans believe so will the team. Up the Baggies!

  23. Keith Curle's Big To said:

    Forget the “handball” debate.

There is no point dominating possesion, if you don’t test the keeper.

The thing we saw yesterday is that if we do go up we don’t have Premiership players.

Morrison, Bednar, Miller and Brunt were woeful. Phillips has a Premiership brain but the legs won’t last 90 mins in the top flight.

But why oh why take Gera off ??????

The only player I would say is the complete Premiership player. Mowbary dropped a major clanger with this decision and combined with the lack of attention given to the defence in the transfer window, this could be our undoing.

IMO Megson side’s were better. You need to know how to defend as well as attack.

Dingles, it seems the highlight of your day was watching baggies at Wembley yesterday! Idiots. I was there and we played Pompy off the park, unlucky handball and were out! So to all you thick, oh so thick dingles, I am proud of my team and still cheered them at the end! Even the Pompy fans said at the end, we were the better team. I am now convinced we will go up automatic! Boing boing!

we didn’t deserve to lose. we played well on the day luck just wasn’t on our side. so pick yourselves up and lets go to blackpool on Tuesday and win…lets show everybody we can get automatic promotion this season…don’t let us down !!!!

Number 9 : We couldn’t keep Kanu wages and we were relegated! he was a LUXURY player 4 us. mind you how does a record of 60 games and 9 goals sound!

  31. Albion Fan 15 said:

WE played exeptionally well in my view just a shame Miller couldn’t get the final chance from what i saw though we just couldn’t get the final ball through.

  32. GranthamBaggieBird said:

    Being there was amazing…
    Losing was disappointing…
Losing due to a handball is upsetting…

I just hope the lads can get their mindset right now for promotion.

I am proud of the BAGGIES
I am proud TO BE a BAGGIE

  33. Baggie Babes said:

We caught the coach and traveled all the way to wembley to watch the Baggies put in a brill performance. Portsmouth did not know what had hit them, they attacked straight away. They got to the final by cheating, not a good example of sporting behaviour.

We are all Brummie rd end supporters, who believe we should have won.

    BOING, BOING, BAGGIES, BAGGIES!!!!!

  34. blueballoo2000 said:

I’m a Pompey fan, and all I can say is that every team we beat thinks they should have won. We play like an Italian team, we draw teams on and then hit them on the break. That is why you had one shot on target and we had 6.
You played well against us, but so did Ipswich, Plymouth, Preston and Man U. I’ve got a lot of respect for Albion, a proper club, but we’ve won 8 of the last 10 with 7 clean sheets playing like this and the other 7 are all singing the same ‘we wuz robbed’ tune.

  35. boldmere_baggie said:

Can only be proud of the team. Portsmouth have one of the best defences in the premiership - let’s not forget the attacking flair players of Man Utd couldn’t score past them… I was concerned we were going to get embarrassed on Saturday, but far from it, we played the better football and looked really solid at the back handling ALL set plays well aginst a strong physical side. It does show us, if we didn;t already know it that we’ll need better strikers if we go up

  36. WORCESTERBAGGIE said:

LOUD AND PROUD WELL PLAYED BAGGIES,GOING UP IS NAILED ON FOR SURE IF WE KEEP PLAYING AS WE ARE ,,WELLDONE LADS…NOW GO SPANK THE POOL AND THE WOLVES,,,,GOING UP THE MOWBRAY WAY ,,IN STYLE OF COURSE,,,OH YES

  37. Rob-wbafc said:

Gera and Kiely out? They both had excellent games, Gera eventualy running out of steam from all the back tracking. Hoefkens MOTM closely followed by Clem, no Pompey players came close. Although Brunt wasn’t very good, he should have started and as a result been more effective especially with Bednar and Gera starting. Good performance all round, very unlucky in the end. Proud to be a Baggie!

  38. The Rockstar said:

Excellent performance from the lads….although the result went against us,we can hold our heads up high.I now cant help thinking that someones going to pay for this with a hammering, goals wise.Thats two matches now where we havent scored.
Well done lads..no complaints here !!

  39. Baggie Boy said:

36.. I have to disagree Diara (think thats his name) had a great 2nd half for Pompey but agree with the Hoff and Clemmo where our best players.

I am actually very posotive about the rest of the season , really upbeat about our chances of automatic promotion.

I have always maintained that the league is the one , But what a distraction the cup has been absolutley great, got the town buzzing got the fans buzzing

Come on baggies 4 more wins (with 2 being black pool and watford) and we should be back where we believe we belong

  40. Clapham Baggie said:

ToMo was right - we were the best team for the first 75 yards. We rarely got behing their defence and created real chances - but there again they have one of the meanest defences in the prem. Proud but gutted. Win tomorrow at the seaside and we’re back in the top 2 and can put Wembley behind us (again - arrgh!). Boing Boing.

  41. daz said:

the closest the dingles will ever get to wembley is watching west brom play there.
from the opening whistle pompey had 9 men behind the ball (cowards). cos they new they would of got slaughtered if they would of tried to play us football.

  42. Mauren Bourne said:

We are so proud of WBA but goals win games and not attractive football. We all know that the Baggies played Portsmouth off the Park. We have scored a boat load this season but not the one we really wanted to take us to the FA Cup Final. Come on you Baggies we want automatic promotion.

  43. The Real Bully said:

Well done Big IQ Rich. Even amongst the Dingles you stand out as the only donut to come on a site titled ‘Albion fans FA cup reactions.’

  44. Jackiechimp said:

no.42, Its because us losing is more important than seeing there own lot win….its a bizarre obsession they have with us, when everyone else knows our real rivals are Villa.
As for the match I think ToMo summed it up very well. We bossed the first half without looking like scoring, second half was more open. I dont think we deserved to lose it, but I dont think we honestly deserved to win it either. If it was a league game, a draw would have been a fair result.

  45. De baggie said:

When oh when are cameras going to be used, How many times in the last two seasons have we lost games through wrong decisions, all I hear is thats the way it is,But to be fair that is not as it should be, it encourages cheats and allows them to carry on with it.Well done Baggies you played well but being fair as usual, did`nt win you the game.
