Albion keeper ignoring boo-boys

kiely22.jpgGoalkeeper Dean Kiely today told the Albion boo-boys he will not be fazed by abuse from the stands.

The veteran shot-stopper was booed by sections of the crowd at The Hawthorns during last Saturday’s 4-3 home win against Colchester.

But he has hit back, claiming he pays not attention to jeers from behind his goal but urging fans to lay off for the sake of the team.

“The ‘stick’ is water off a duck’s back,” said Kiely, who was booed following a poor punch that led to the goal that put the Us 2-0 up.

“To play nearly 740 games in somebody’s first team, I’ve worked hard from Monday to Friday and listened to what the manager wants me to do and how he wants me to play and distribute the ball. I do that to the letter of his law.

“So, since January, when the pitches got poor, the manager has been saying he doesn’t want us playing it out of the back, playing pretty football.

“If he wants me to kick 70 yards to hit an area then I will do that.

“With the greatest respect if the butcher, the baker or the candlestick maker behind me is telling me what to do, I’m not listening to them rather than listening to what the manager wants.

“The feedback I get from the manager is positive and he’s happy with what I’m doing..

“People can come and pay money to say exactly what you want – it doesn’t matter.

“I’ve had a 20-year career and over that period my mum, my misssus, my kids have all been in for criticism.

“They’re this, they’re that, or the other. Do I pay any attention to it? No, not really.

“Is it helpful to the team? No. Is it helpful for the manager? No. Is it helpful for our cause and what we want to do? No.

“But I respect those who shout what they want when they’ve paid their money.

“Does it change what I do or do I go to bed worrying about it? Not in the slightest.

“I pay no intention to it.”

And Kiely jokes: “If I get a 50p on the back of the head it goes down my sock.”

    Over the last couple of months, does anyone sense a tad of arrogance coming off this guy?
    (Certain Gesture’s & comments)

    I will always back Kiely whilst he is in goal for us, and I would never boo him, but some of mistakes that have crept in this season and his performances do ask alot of questions, but as he says above he is only answerable to his Manager.

    To all Baggie fans, Kiely will be in goal for the rest of the season unless injuries, BACK HIM BACK THE TEAM. We all want the same.

    IMO Kiely won’t be in goal for WBA next season.

    Please stop making it into more than it was deno. A small minority got on you back thats all it happens. Not sure where you got the 50p jibe form i don’t think things were thrown at you.

  4. Happy_baggie said:

    well said Deanno.

    All clubs have a mindless element - (some have more than others), but the VAST majority of fans are positive in their support for deanno, the team and the manager.

    Unfortunately some people are a bit thick and think that booing a player either makes them look clever or has a positive effect on the peformance.

    Thankfully it has only been a small, a VERY small minority who have booed Deanno - and I’m sure he knows he has the support of 98% of the crowd.

    Finally, thanks to the paper for yet another positive story to send us on our way to glory - at least it will keep our neighbours busy for an hour or two (cue michael, LCW ect….)

    COME ON POMPEY MAKE US PROUD!!!!!

  26. Warren (Albion) said:

    Laughing Wolf, the coin remark was a metaphor, 50p didn’t actually hit him on the head fall down his sock. Never mind…….

    I’d never boo any Albion player during the game and disagree with those that do but got to agree with TonyWBA. If he’s not happy he should get his head down and work. Turning around and swearing at the crowd whenever he hears a groan isn’t the way a professional should behave.

    Also, is it me or are there a lot of Dean Kiely articles about Dean Kiely this week? I’d rather be hearing Dean Kiely articles about West Bromwich Albion on the eve of one of the most exciting games in the club’s history, and positive ones at that.

    That said, lets get behind them and not fall into the trap our neighbours do of booing at every opportunity.

    Even if we lose, I doubt anybody is going equipped with a ‘You’ve let us down….again’ banner!!

    COME ON YOU BAGGIES!!

    P.S. Jealous Wolves fans, get a life, you’d do anything to be there tomorrow!!

  27. divingbaggie said:

    Wolves fans….do you realize how silly you all sound?The fact that we have reached the semis and you havent shows that we have been more successful than you in the cup.Even if we do lose tomorrow we made it to wembley and we will go down in history as making the semis AGAIN. Do you point to the fact that we actually have the most successful FA record out of the four teams left?

    WE have idiotic fans as well as you lot do(well i think it is plain that most of your idiotic fans post on this board) but the majority arent like that. The fact is that we have scored more goals than anyone in the division and we are letting them in, most of which have been caused by our goalkeeper not being as good as the rest of the players.We have a high standard you see.

    Hope you enjoy watching the game tomorrow.If we lose at least we will be able to empathize with you lot more.Heres hoping you make the top 6.

  28. Happy_baggie said:

    25 - COME ON POMPEY MAKE US PROUD - ?

    you make 22 look like a college professor. How come its never the wolves that make you proud ?

    How sad are you when the only cheer you got last season was watching Derby county ?

    Yes Pompy may beat us - but you will still be a sad little man sitting in his house watching other peoples teams on at wembley on the telly.

    The Wolves fans who have posted on here criticising boo-boys appear to have conveniently forgotten:

    Booing Mick Mccarthy;
    Booing Stephen Elliott;
    Booing Andy Keogh;
    Spitting at Jack Hayward;
    Being voted ‘Biggest whingers’in a recent national survey on football supporters;
    Unravelling ‘You’ve let us down again’ banners;
    AND consistently failing to achieve promotion despite spending millions in the mid-late 90’s, partly due to the unreasonable expectations their fickle supporters put on them during home games.

  38. Warren (Albion) said:

    36- You’re right, we’re no angels, every club has their morons, it just seems that Wolves have more than most.

    For the record, Tony Mowbray has never been booed, and the players you mention wanting out did so for financial reasons and the opportunity to play in the Premiership, as would any footballer in any team, as will Kightly next year, and quite possibly half of our team if we don’t go up.

    My post was aimed at those idiots who used this article to criticise our fans for getting on players’ backs.

    Unfortunately this has turned into one of those tit for tat articles. There’s a distinct lack of entries from the moderate wing at the Molineaux, those who don’t veer between Muppet Mick/Merlin Mick (ie Malvern, 2468 etc.)
    Baggies fans.
    Let’s look at this objectively. Has Deano really come out on the eve of the game slagging off his own fans or is it an E & S reporter asking him a question which he’s answered and it has then been blown up into a major story? I know what I think.

  42. Loyal-Cannock-Wolf said:

    I know he looks like gollem but bit harsh to boo him…
