Walsall new boy for next term

brown2.jpgWalsall manager Richard Money has admitted that new signing Aaron Brown may not have a significant part to play this season.

The former Tamworth and Stafford Rangers centre back, who joined on-loan from Reading on deadline day, has not played a first- team match for parent club Reading.

He has been out of action with a broken ankle and fractured cheekbone and Money revealed that the arrangement is more with a view towards the long-term.

“I think everybody should realise what we’ve done with Aaron,” Money said.

“We haven’t taken Aaron on loan to come and play in our first team straight away.

“He’s had a long period of injury and they bought him as a raw young defender to work with.

“Because he’s been injured, they haven’t been able to work with him as much as they would probably like to have done.

“We’ve brought him in still as a raw young defender, really with a view to seeing if there’s anything longer term for next season, which I think is a sensible course of action.”

Brown played his first game in Walsall colours in the reserves 4-0 defeat at Port Vale on Tuesday, as he bids to regain match fitness.

Are you kidding me?????? Fair enough, bring a lad in to see how it goes ready for next season, but for that to be your only signing on the brink of the play-offs in a team struggling for Goals. Come On Dicky, you’re better than that.

Why not have done that with a striker??? At least a recovering striker can come off the bench to make an impact, match fit or not. An unfit centre back can only come off the bench and get caught out.

I am afraid we are back to where we always were just before Graydon arrived, fighting for a possible playoff place in the third tier of the game. Yes better than league one strugglers or league two winners, but we are at our natural place again, following the up’s and downs of the Merson effect.

So well done to DD for steadying the ship, but those of us who have been around Fellows Park, Bescot and Banks’s for years realise that anything different from towards the top of third tier is not the norm. It is where a club of our size and support will always settle back to, because of economics and it takes either some fabulous management to get us higher or some appauling management for a lower finish.

And yes I know we have tinkered with Championship and fourth tier on occasions, but right now 7th is about the best we should hope for.

No I am not being negative, we don’t have the squad to get promoted and shuold feel a little lucky that we had the run we did. This period of poor results is just a balance out.

I am afraid to loose 2 home games against Northampton and Brighton killed the season for me………..but hey if we can hold onto DD, he will have learnt the Walsall Way and will be able to work his magic next season.

WELL DONE SADDLERS for an generally good season!

    Say no more!

Well said, Swampy. Now is the time, however, to look at what is really wrong with the club and get the marketing sorted out and stop treating the fans - the paying customers - so badly. We are getting gates in the region of 5000, when the town has a population of 250,000 or more, plus a huge catchment area north of the Borough. That’s what the club should be doing - going flat out to maximise attendances, so we have the resources to make a challenge.

The backroom staff and marketing team have been let down by the team players and management this season. There have been promotions involving giving free tickets to hundreds of young fans, unfortunately they were for matches when the Walsall players did not do anything to attract them back. The fault lies with Richard Money and the players he has brought to the club.

I don’t BLAME the players but there have always been shocking performances to coincide with ticket offers. Lets hope for a dambuster performance saturday!!

What a complete pillock this manager really is.

Don’t worry about getting a striker in to score the goals or a defender to shore up our leaky defence. No, let’s use the last few hours of the transfer window to bring in a triallist …. for next season …. possibly.

    Give me strength!
