Harry Redknapp today hit back at Dean Kiely and claimed he saved he saved the Albion keeper’s career.
The Portsmouth manager praised Kiely’s contribution in keeping the club in the Premier League but described his criticisms of Redknapp and Pompey as “nonsense”.
In an Express & Star exclusive last month Kiely claimed he felt ‘used’ by Redknapp, who signed James from Manchester City after Kiely’s displays helped save the club from relegation.
Redknapp said today: “He did a good job for us. I took him from Charlton when he was pretty much written off, he couldn’t get a game, he came in and did a job for us.
“David James became available so I took him. He seems to be upset, I don’t know why.
“I took David James because you want your club to keep moving. When suddenly the best goalkeeper in the country became available I had to take him.
“Obviously he (Kiely) made a couple of remarks. It’s all nonsense isn’t it?
“It’s life isn’t it? You move on. I go and bring Sol Campbell in, he takes someone else’s place, I bring Sylvain Distin in and he takes someone’s place, that’s football.”

Afraid I agree with Harry on this. If Chelsea asked is if we wanted Cudicini as he’s frustrated with his bit part role we’d be stupid to do the ‘honourable’ thing and say no. Every team wants to improve and to do that you have to improve the playing squad. That means casualties.
I agree with Spuggy here. Deno should shut up and concentrate on his game which needs as much work as his diplomacy. I’m hoping to see him keep another clean sheet at wembley though…….come on lads we can do this !!!

Well’berkshire baggie’, you make a fool of yourself and make WBA fans look less than they are. The’Sailor Boys’were not such bad lads when they visited WBA a couple of years back with their fans cheerfully supporting the Great Escape. Face facts, ‘Arry has to get the best players for Pompey and moving Kiely on to get James is just what anyone with any sense would do, so grow up and stop the nasty remarks.
I think the opriginal comments were some that were made a few years back.the papers have dragged em back up thats all…

It’s just a pity that this game isn’t the final. 7 WJD. Every right minded Baggie knows that Pompey are a great club with great fans and top players, with the best English manager in the game, lets just see how it goes on the day. Come on you Baggies and come on Deano. Play the game of your life at wembley and you will be a living legend.

I agree with Harry to develop and progress as a team you need to improve any position when a better player becomes available - simply good management. No room for sentiment in professional football I am afraid.
Hope its a good game on Saturday whatever the result. As for berkshire baggies strange comments - he’s probably 12 so they need to be taken with a pinch of salt
I agree with Harry. Deano is passionate and always wants to play but at the end of the day the manager picks the best players available. Deana will hopefully have competition at the Baggies soon that will put pressure on him to peform better.
