The Express & Star took Laraine Astle, widow of Albion legend Jeff, back to Wembley to find out her memories of Albion’s 1968 cup win.

Laraine talks about how she felt that day, what the victory meant to her late husband and how the FA Cup is still so important to the Astle family.

A brilliant player. Don’t want to see you win, it is great that both our clubs have a proud history though. Having read Frank Skinner’s book it would also seem that Jeff was a great character and a truely nice man, from the stories Frank tells.

Why didn’t the Albion treat JEFF as the KING when he was alive

So many comparissions to Jeff Astle.
I think we have a spiritual edge. Tis almost 40 years to the day i became a baggie.
If we go a goal down, the fury of our attacking will boom up, and i think Mowbrays storm trooper tactics will bring 3 attackers onto the famous turf.
And Bednar will score in the 81st minuite, to make it an unassailable 2-1 to the baggies. Our name is on the Cup this year–this year being the year of the underdog.

Think baggies should sing about “king astle” for the whole game!…

If we did i wouldn’t give a toss about result! does it matter???? “astle is the king…”

Clubs should show their appreciation of past players whilse they are still alive. Particularly from the era when they earned next to nothing from the game. Geoff Astle was a true star, totally loyal to Albion but in my opinion was treated badly by the club after he’d finished. There are many others in the same position now. This isnt an anti Albion rant by the way, Wolves have been just as bad over the years, as have many clubs.
