Wolves powerhouse Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has revealed his wonder strike at Charlton is the best goal of his career.
But he revealed it’s not the first time he’s scored using the ‘Cryuff turn’ – and warned he will continue attempting tricks to throw defenders off course.
For the moment though he’s happy for fans to indulge his finest effort to date. Ebanks-Blake’s effort saw him collect Kevin Foley’s through ball before flicking the ball one way around Paddy McCarthy and running around the other followed by a blistering shot into the top corner of the net.
“It was probably the best I’ve scored,” said Ebanks-Blake, who now has 30 League goals in only 63 starts.
““It was a completely instinctive moment and something that came off for me, so I was really pleased, not just with the goal but the win.
“I scored a similar one when I was playing for United reserves against Middlesbrough at Altrincham.”
Boss Mick McCarthy and stand-in captain Karl Henry both revealed they thought Ebanks-Blake had been influenced by the Maradona DVD the players had watched en route to Charlton.
But the player himself has shrugged off any comparisons with one of the world’s greatest players.
And to underline the confidence oozing through him, he re-iterated his desire to try something different in the opposition’s third of the pitch.
“The Maradona DVD was on on the coach so people have picked up on that, but I’ve read the comparisons and it’s not even close,” he said.
“I didn’t really think ‘I’m going to do this’, I do things as they come and that’s what happened.
“Luckily for me it went in and now everyone can enjoy it and talk about it.
“I’m a big fan of trying things in the final third of the pitch – anyone should do it and if it doesn’t come off, then they shouldn’t be too disappointed.”

OMG - first it was Maradonna - now cruyff…. hilarious.
yes it was a good goal - but only in dingledom could this amount of over hyping go on.
Its not hard to imagine this was his best goal cos A) it WAS a good goal but B) most of his others are penalties.
So far he has been liked to two of the worlds greatest ever players AND wolves’ greatest ever goal scorer…. not bad for a fat lad who has scored 9 goals for you.
I await the Pele comparison with baited breath…
p.s - keough is the new Shearer and Gray is the new Maldini.
Class player from what we’ve seen so far, right age with what sounds like a good attitude. Can we congratulate everybody at the club for bringing him in, when people were saying we had too many strikers & for 1.5 million pounds. Few years ago we’d have been paying over the odds for Prem rejects like that Moore at the Tescos for stupid money!!!!
P.S Phil Brown has got manager of the month… that’s Hull’s season over
By the way Happy_baggie… you read way too much into these comparisons… no-one’s saying he’s going to be that type of player. The Cruyff reference is obviously for the turn that he used, the Maradonna is dressing room banter because of a DVD, and the Bully reference is a comparison between the amount of goals they both scored in their first 14 games.
Does anyone really care if some of his goals for Plymouth were pens anyway? He has been there to put each of his 20 league goals in and he’s doing it in fine form for the Old Gold and Black.
Taste’s bitter doesn’t it. I hope so!
So that you don’t have to bait your breath too much longer (although you might find bated breath easier),Ebanks-Blake has all the makings of a new Pele.
Pertonian - i have no bitter taste in my mouth because unlike some i can say “well done”. If you want bitterness have a look at your fellow fans comments on our forthcoming wembley trip.
i acknowledged that it was a good goal - but the comparisons are ridiculous - and the fact that you are justifying them is even funnier.
So no bitterness here pal - just a healthy dose of realism.
Only resemblance to Maradonna are his little short arms,
Happy Baggie
Cruyff turn mate, its the name of a turn with the inside of your foot!!! Thats not comparing him to Cruyff, thats explaing the technique he used!! He will be more of a success than that fat lad you lot gave a lifetime supply of Meat & potatoe pies to, what was his name John Hartson!!!
He’s also scored one penalty for us, out of those 9. I think you’ve been looking at his goals on U-Tube myself because you liked what you saw on Saturday evening??? You like Wolves really don’t you? Go on admit it!!!
mr soon to be unhappy baggie, ay it great to be talking about a young and up and coming striker banging the goals in rather than an as been, but glad you feel the need to share your thoughts on our players rather than your as beens. Play Up Pompey !
HB Looks like we’ve touched a nerve there, a very narky responce. Whats up lost your sense of humour. Well you shouldn’t come on here pretending to have one
Happy_Baggie 1 of his 9 goals for Wolves has been a penalty. The rest have been pure predatory instict.
8 - yes I’m aware of the cruyff turn - but SEBs was more of a nutmeg…. anyway, my point is that you guys ALWAYS build these players up to levels they can never sustain and then destroy them when they can’t. I just think to mention cruyff AND maraddona in the same story about him is just highly amusing.
9 - well done on typing in a regional accent - you must be salt of t’ earth.
Yeah we need some young strikers at the Albion - if it wasn’t for KP we wouldn’t have a goal scorer at all - i hate being a one man team !!
p.s - I’m never unhappy - I realise there is always someone worse off than me…..
ta-ra ark’..
I won’t be compaining if SEB scores a couple of penalties on the 15th.
Simon
hmmmmm
which one closer to truth
black cryuff
or wba being bigger than pompey
i think its the 1st option
Happy_Baggie, the comparisons are rediculous when you take them seriously as you seem to be. I was justifying them, yes, but as the fact that they were references, not comparisons. As for bitterness? I’m enjoying every moment of this false hope of you winning the cup that will distract you from the league.
I’m all for credit where it’s due, and I would love to see both teams in the Prem, but you, my blue + white friend, deserve no credit. That enough realism for you?
I’ve just been reading some of the recent stories on these pages…. It seems you have a striker called Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.
Is this true ?
6. You criticise a section of wolves fans for posting rubbish on your web page and then you come here and start abusing the wolves (reference “only in dingledom…”). Well done.
As Pertonian Wolf explained, he isn’t being compared to the greats. They are just articles by the E&S and you have read something into them that simply isn’t there. All footballers with ambition have role models, Maradonna happens to be one.
Try again.
Cryuff turn really? Nice spelling.
And Happy Baggie, dear me, should I even bother replying or simply supply you with a nice new pane of glass so you can continue to live a Happy life licking windows.
14 - ?
15 - so I deserve no credit… well i never asked for any. You however have covered yourself in glory - well done.
As for you hoping to see both teams in the prem - no you don’t. Your pitiful comment about our cup game tells me all i need to know about your sporting attitude.
At least i acknowleded that the SEB goal was good - you are just another fan who can’t see past the colour of a shirt.
Byeeeeeee.
Happy_Saddie
Any one with half a brain will see its the papers giving it all the hype.
You must have a sad life too wasting your time on other clubs comments page but then again you are a Sandwell Clown anyway so WHO CARES.
Stay at home and Boooooooooooo your own keeper..
HB What a sad life you must lead if you have to post five lots of drivel on our page in under an hour.Whats up nothing sensible to report on the Buggies page or are you on your annual break from refuse disposal?
HB, I stand by my coment that I hope the cup distracts you from the league. I’m a Wolves fan and as such, I don’t want to see the teams around us picking up points, regardless who they are. primarily I want wolves to be there at the end of the season. That doesn’t by any means suggest I wouldn’t like to see a Prem derby. So don’t judge me and other Wolves fans about being petty or dis-respectful as well all hear you say constantly and then be hypocrytical by coming out with coments like “dingledom” - duely noted by codsallwolf. Judge yourself before you do to others, i’m sure you’ll find enough to keep you busy.
UP THE WOLVES!!!
Guys come on!
I’m Wolves all the way through, but Happy is not a bad fella, he has not slagged us off, he’s pointing out that E&S have compared the lad to Maradonna…. We all know SEB is no Maradonna, we also know he has a raw quality that will only get better, Happy has even acknowledged the quality and admitted WBA have an old strike force and Admires our youth!
Leave the fella alone, he’s always made comments that envoke response, it’s healthy and I for one quite enjoy the banter!
UP the WOLVES!!!
Cannot wait till saturday to see our legends at wembley!…………Boing boing
Oh All you pompey fans saturday you WILL lose….boing boing
Agree with HB it wasnt a cruyff turn,it was a clever nuts and it was a quality goal.Lets hope for a aeroplane celebration from Seb when we play the Baggies hehe.
Happy i have said a few times your posts lack more and more cedibility each time you post, point proved!!!
Happy boggys popular tday!
Dont give him the satisfcation
Hes jus sour ”Super Kevz” Nearing the end of his career and this lads onli us startin
AND yes ino u av ishamel and roman..
Ish who obviously is good enough for the premiership thats why Manc C kept him and Roman who cor even hack the scotish prem where even kenny miller scored goals!!
He will score 2 against brizzle, 2 against albion. 2 against ipswich, 3 against cardiff, 4 against coventry and 5 against plymouth
Lmao fair play to the lad.
All the best against pompey happy…. I wil be watchin… might have to turn it off if the ”play up pompeyy” chants get to loud tho..
Play up pompey x
I have always said we should be trying to shoot outside the area Gray had a go it did not come off but it was not far out and other have tried as well. Outside the area is when the opposition least expect us to shoot.
SEB is a very determined player but there is also other players that are just as determined. I am not knocking SEB because his goals on Saturday were brilliant especially the second one the way he turned and got away from that player was sheer guts, determination and muscle and was brilliant to watch.
I think (and some may say i dont know what I am talking about) but the last time I saw us play like we did at home against QPR was when we played Bristol City. I cannot comment on away matches but I am sure the away fans have probably seen some good matches.
Come on the lads you have the sheer guts and determination to get to the play offs and I hope you do. Whatever the outcome you will still have my support.
Good Luck
ENOUGH!!! of the bickering boys,
Blakes first strike was superb his second was breathtaking.
Number 20 “Happy-Saddie” ?……you do realise that doesn`t make sense ?
FREDDY AND SEB !! GOALS GALORE !! IF PLAYED THOUGH !! FREDDY AND SEB !!
Can everybody please remember that Happy_Baggie openly admits to getting a bit of banter going. He’s harmless really and has actually made some good comments in the past.
As for post 16 Happy, it’s not Sylvan Ebanks Blake, it’s Sylvan Maradona Cruyff! He may not be Pele or any of the other true greats but he’s the best natural goal scorer we’ve had for a long time and I would love to see him aiming to beat the messiah Mr Bulls record
1 - yes mr baggie & greening is the new jesus, chaplow was the new duncan goodhew etc.
over-hyping? let’s discuss your cup run. while it’s an acheivement in itself to make it to wembley & fair play to your team for making it there. i’ve heard it described as “amazing”, “inspired” but who have you beaten to get there???
excuse me mr Happy_Baggie but who r u calling fat!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sylvan is NOT fat!!! He is all mucelle!!
i sence some jealousy!! Kevin philips got some real compettion now has he!!
u English people r all the same u love 2 knock people down when they r doin good!!!
how dare people come on hear and insult the man that has done wonders for WWFC!! ur all just jealous!
wen west brom play well c whos laughin then ay!!
Sylvan is the rooney and Keogh is the Ronoldo the 1-2 combo wolves need!
people should be happy 4 him not insuling him because he has done good u fools!!!!!
PLAY UP POMPEY - POMPEY PLAY UP!
ting a ling a ling! - that’s the bell by the way that Pompey bloke will be ringing all match and afterwards celebrating a further return to WEMBLEY!
I thought with Mickey Mouse at the helm, would have been a disney movie being watched..
Jealous are we happy_faggie?
Just cos he’s gonna batter your defence at the mol’, lets face it we dont even need SEB to make a mockary of your shoddy backline.
All he said was his hero was maradonna, and he DID do a cruyff turn when he scored you IDIOT!
HB go crawl in a hole somewhere you old fart..
GOOD LUCK TO THE BAGGIES ON SATURDAY!
could anybody tell me if happy baggie works or his he a dolle dozer like everybody else in sandwell town because he seems to always be on the net looking on the wolves pages,or he might want a job for the express&star.p.s we are wolves
happy baggie, your right us wolves fans love to hype a player up.as do sandwell, lee hughs, scot dobbie and rob hulse were these not the next bully
It is story about a Wolves player and a quality one at that. So why does supporters of the small club down the road have to keep coming on to our board and knock somebody who is 10 times better than Luke Moore.
Although we have performed badly a lot this season, the table tells us that you have not been much better.
Also, when you come to slagging off our quality young talent, it is down to jealousy. Have you got real prize assets like Hennessey, Kightly, Jarvis and Ebanks-Blake? Answer is no!
A great goal looks a good player.last time I saw England at wemblely was when Holland gave England a lesson in football ,what a master class from joahn cruff and co I think it was 4-2.
At a time when so many clubs are looking abroad for players (note. Sandwell town), we have invested in british talent. It just shows if you are prepared to look hard enough they are out there. Look:
SEB
Keogh
Eastwood
Jarvis
Dave Edwards
Potter
Kightly
Foley
Hennessey (and Murrey)
41) iam afraid the answer to that is yes, Gera,Miller,Bednar,Koren,Brunt, Morrison. I would also say that he is 10 times better than SEB is a slight mis-truth. Glad to know your all over the freddie thing and you have someone else to put on you pedestal.
36) tell me when it comes to making a mockery of our local rivals i think you will find its us in general who do the laughing.
11 point lead
3-0 pie and a point
10-3
Take your pick, we laugh at you and you know it.
Have a nice saturday, see you on the 15th for another giggle
33) lol iam sure that means something just not sure what

Either you are an Express and Star plant to wind up our fans or you are a closet WWFC fan.
You are also clearly ignorant about the Cruyff turn. Loads of schoolkids can do it, so can I. Doing the turn does not mean that you are being compared to Cruyff. Watching Maradona, being inspired to try something special and then taking some good-natured teasing by the use of the name does not mean that much - just a load of fun. After all don’t WBA have a player who rejoices in the name of Pele and isn’t there another player who tries to imitate an orange and white Montgolfier balloon?
The best soccer player in history is Pele. In 1,363 games he scored 1,281 goals. Three times played on teams which won the World Cup. Twice league club champion with Santos. Who’s Cruff? SEB, got a long way to go lad..played 63 times in the league?
48 quality, i don’t beleive pele scored that many goals! The history books can say what they want but there are no facts behind it. When I was at westfield primary, one lunch i scored 37 times, with a tennis ball as well!!! I reckon he has added all those to his tally. I also put in 17 goals during a 15 minute break, bet pele never did that. So basically i am the worlds greatest ever footballer, i thank you!!!
44. All clubs put strikers on a pedestal (Astle, Bull, Taylor et al). Some fans got pre-mature about Freddy Eastwood, however, I assure you that the majority have a more balance view. We are building a squad, SEB is just another member of the squad.
48. You haven’t got it yet have you? The only posters comparing SEB with Cruyff are baggies posters. Wolves aren’t doing that. However, if you wish to do so be our guest.
48)No ones saying he’s Johan Cruyff Idiot!
And It seems you can’t even spell ‘Cruyff’ correctly…Cruff..honestly
HAPPY BAGGIE,,,SOUR GRAPES AGAIN! YOU ARE QUICK TO FIRE NEGATIVE JIBES WHEN YOU SEE A WOLVES PLAYER BETTER THAN WHAT THE BAGGIES HAVE..GROW UP FOR GODS SAKE
Its obvious Sylvan is the new Ronaldo!
Anyway, enough talk about SEB…I need my daily Freddy fix.
Simon
Oh, anyone for Merlin Mick the new Arsene Wenger?
i very much doubt happy_baggie is a west bum supporter. why was he looking at a Wolves article and commenting on the forums i never go on to the West Bum articles ever unless its wolves v west bum. UP THE WOLVES
LMAO at Wolves, Happy baggie really winds you idiots up! Boing boing….
Guess who has sent the most posts about SEB?
Yes you’re right - It’s Happy Baggie.
That’s really sad to see so many posts on a Wolves page from a Baggie.
Obviously the Albion page must be boring - That’s boring by the way, not boing.

Oi Terry - have this flippin rod back will ya…
I thought he said on sky that he’d scored better but that one was up there?
Saw the SEB goal on youtube….what a cracker! HB …I too hope WWFC vs WBA is a Prem fixture next year. I also hope we thrash the living daylights out of you in April with SEB scoring a hat-trick Pele would be proud of ;))
Does Happy Baggie have a job?? Don’t look like it but i do reckon his blood is gold which would explain why he’s always on our pages.
Lookin forward to watchin the tesco’s cryin at wembley AGAIN. HAHAHAHA and again at the mol in a few days when seb (or cruyff/maradona) rips your poor defense apart.
haha why do you guys react to happy baggie???
ignore him!!!
it was a class goal from a class player, lets just hope he keeps banging them in and puts that old fart phillips in his place…2cnd best as usual!!! avit!!!!!!!!
i saw me mate the other week.He said to me he saw the black bully.I said to him who is he.He said his initials r S.E.B S.E.B S.E.B he said his initials r S.E.B.
It was E&S with Cryuff comparison and team banter with Maradona, still, what price SEB handling the winner. Then he can be compared with Maradona lol.
Show me a better goal scored by anybody anywhere in this division, and I’ll buy a season ticket to watch terrywallyboggies brazil for the next five years. But wait! he might score three like it against the Albion!!
I’ve never had a problem with Happy Baggie’s posts which often hit the right spot!
As for SEB, great potential and a quality goal but 9 articles about him since Saturday!!!
There are plenty of strikers who have enjoyed rich veins of form only to disappear equally as quickly. Let’s be thankful we’ve got him, stop treating him like some demi-God, let him continue to improve quietly and can we talk about something or someone else!
Well, well, well……Here comes Big Wolf and quality counts with their PRO Freddie and anti Mick comments. What is wrong with you two. Who has the family brain cell today.
This is comical banter about SEB and has nothing to do with FE or MM.
Stay away or better still, go and support another team because you don’t deserve to be in our gang.
Oh no HB is back. Was hoping he was out injured for the rest of the season. Commiserations in advance cause you have not a hope in hell against Pompey. Then you got us, and SEB will score a penalty plus two from open play. HB your season is over.
craggy baggy you are hilarious mate, really hilarious
it wasn’t a NUTMEG it was a Cruyff turn you plonker. NUTMEG is normally referred to when you are front on to a player and thread the ball between his legs. The ball did go between the defenders legs so i guess he was nutmegged but the turn was a cruyff turn - now I’m confusing myself - perhaps it was a cruyffmeg or a nutcruyff. Who cares, it was a good goal. Let’s hope he’s got a few more tricks up his sleeve to get us promoted.
good luck tescos for wembley…
Bitter words from bitter baggies.
Come on Pompey, stuff the baggies.
The boy can score goals from almost anywhere. When he first came to Wolves I posted that I had seen him play a number of times at Plymouth and would score at any level. He is now showing a little of what I firmly believe to be GREAT potential. On another point, It might be as well to remember that S.E.B. did score a number of penalties at Plymouth. This is because they seem to be awarded an inordinate amount of them. The Wolves should be aware of the risk when we play them in our last game!
Up The Wolves.
Happie How big is your keep net,you must have a few pound of brains in there.
#57… good notes, any idea why Morgan didn’t invest this to start the season to allow the team to walk into the premiership?
Answer is easy! he didn’t to start this season and he isn’t this summer either. I can see all the players going you mention BUT nothing be spent on incoming… thats show business guys!
Mickey Mouse is stuck in the Disneyland of the conference league…borrow a cup of sugar please!

it wasnt a cruyff turn he back heeled it
It was a great goal.
Mistakes are piling up now BOGGIE
57. wolves all the way
Everything you posted had some sense attached to it, well done.
The saddest one was the £4M transfer of Matt Murray to the Villa. It would make sense for them to take the risk.
If their vastly superior ‘elf and safety guys could look after Matt and his injuries, then they have the next England goalkeeper. He would be worth 20 goals a season to them, the same as one of the best strikers in the Premiership. That is why “old big-head” (Cloughie) was always prepared to pay what everybody else thought were silly prices for his goalies!
