Striker backing spirit to lift team

747charlwolv-10-tt-2.jpgMan of the moment Sylvan Ebanks-Blake reckons Wolves’ fighting spirit will send their promotion rivals packing.

Wolves have scored injury-time goals to clinch four points in the last two games against QPR and Charlton.

Mick McCarthy’s men have to play five out of six games against teams around them with Bristol City, Albion, Cardiff, Ipswich and Plymouth all to come.

And hotshot Ebanks-Blake is convinced Wolves have the edge as the season approaches its climax.

“We’ve showed a fighting spirit which is what you need at this stage of the season because to come back from going behind three times as we did against QPR and then against Charlton shows good character,” he said.

“Not a lot of teams will be able to show that during the run-in and there will be a lot of nerves.

“We’ve come to the boil at the right time and hopefully we can push on and pick up the points we need to get there.”

Ebanks-Blake has now scored nine goals in 14 games since his £1.5m move from Plymouth in January to help his new club to 17 points out of 24.

But the modest 22-year-old refuses to acknowledge he’s been the difference, instead praising the team for the improvement.

“I can’t take the credit for our recent form,” he said.

“The gaffer brought me in to try and continue what I was doing down at Plymouth and that was score goals and I think I’ve done that.

“But as a whole team we have been growing in confidence.

“We’ve come through some difficult times with injuries and the team changing a lot but we’ve adapted and it’s been a massive team effort from all of us.

“We all know where we want to be next season and are pulling together at the right time and hopefully coming good.

“Hopefully we’ve picked up at just the right time.

“The performances against QPR and Charlton were good and the manager felt it was some of the best the team have produced all season.”

IMO it’s no coincidence that we have been doing so well since Craddock returned.

We’re the in form team along with the likes of Hull.

There’s no doubt if we keep up this great form, we will go up!

Come one Lads it’s looked unlikely for a short period, but nows your chance to cement a place in the Prem.

I know it will seem unlikely to most as we’ve only just got back in playoffs, but as fans we have to have faith. Or whats the point?

    2. Absolutely right. Too much is made of the fact that we have relatively old centre backs but when they play together their experience shows. I expect our defence to improve when Breen returns. Despite seemingly not having a great amount of pace, the two never get out-paced. Their positioning makes up for it and they’re a calming influence on the rest of the side. I often think Breen is judged on the mistakes he made in the play offs last season.

    10. Goldenwolves, I’m one of the McCarthy haters as you so eloquently put it and I’m not afraid to admit it so what’s your point?
I think you will find a lot of people who post on here don’t like MM but the general concensus is that we support the ‘team’ all the way and put up with MM as long as he’s around. No pressure SEB but a lot of us are keeping our fingers crossed that you can be the next messiah here at the golden palace

  15. Loyal-Cannock-Wolf said:

    8. Why do you keep going on about S. Ward?

Is that because you’ve heard a minority of our fans slag him off?

Your pathetic mate, you don’t know anything about our squad so focus on your own…

And as for ‘hammering us’ we’ll see about that, especially when Kightly is back. We can only get better as a squad and personally, I’m very much looking to see how you fair against us on April 15th. P.s. can’t you think of a more inventive name than ‘Baggy1′?…Idiot.

    Hmmm goldenwolves - let’s see:

We moaned at MM for playing Ward on the wing when Jarvis was sat on the bench and then we moaned at MM when he started Kyle but kept a proven goal scorer on the bench. We moaned when he sent Craddock on loan to Stoke. And guess what - when he puts these errors right we improve and start to bloody well win - guess it justifies the moans!!!!

Now we (Wolves) are no longer losers. loser!

  18. wolveswolves said:

    10 and 11.

Lets me put it straight. We have the squad to win this league, we won’t and the reason we won’t is Thick Mick. If we make the playoffs that the minimum I would expect but he is certainly no Merlin and if your happy with the strange decisions this man makes your the losers.

Winning in spite of Thick Mick

April is a good time of year for a team to get a feel good factor and Wolves are finding their way at the right time. How we are still in contention after not playing well for over 4 months I don’t know, but we are and on current form only Hull are matching us. Another 4 wins will be plenty to get in to the play offs then its a lottery to get the final promotion place.

    14. Spot on! I wouldn’t class myself as a “hater” as goldenwolves states but I don’t rate McCarthy as a manager and there is ample evidence to justify that point of view.

I’m not so blind that I won’t credit him for good substitutions on Saturday and the team seems to have discovered its fighting spirit!

However, judging the season as a whole he has been mediocre in every way and has been saved by having a generous chairman who has backed him!

Like you, I love my football club and will support them to my dying day but I’m not a hypocrite and I’m not going to change my opinion on the back of a few good results.

THEN GET A GOOD MANAGER WHO HAS THE GUMPTION TO KEEP US UP.

    EBANKS EBANKS EBANKS
Next two matches are crucial, let’s hope he turns it on again for us and continues to get good support from a rejuvenated team. For me Micky Gray has been terrific and is performing much better than most fans anticipated. He really gives it everything. Keogh-Ebanks combo is working well. Although I’d like to see Freddy given a start too I think he might be too similar to Ebanks. Bizarrely enough though that Kyle seems to do okay coming off the bench. C’mon lets knock the robins off their perch and smack the tesco’s back to the poorthorns.

    14. the next messiah? Who signed him??? Who signed Kightly? D. Edwards? Jarvis? Eastwood? Keogh? Not so thick Mick & his staff I think!!!! We have signed young, talented players since MM took over, who work hard and are proud to play for the club!!! Okay so central defence is a bit weak which is why we are looking at young defenders for next season. Wolves are building something good & only a fool can be too blind to see it!!! Open your eyes!!! Even Fergie has signed bad players, its part & parcel of football but we now have two of the best young players outside the prem, at OUR club. You (14) are one of the people who will jump down a players throat if he has two bad games!!! I can’t believe our fans were getting on Henry’s back, he is a honest Wolverhampton lad who works his heart out for his team, as he showed by busting his balls in the 94th minute to get his club an important winning goal!!! Morgan is from Liverpool & he knows that giving a manager time & support is the key because that is how they have achieved success over the years, ask there proper fans, if only we had support clever & patient enough to be the same!!!! Lets change our ways and make Wolves a force!!! Patience everyone is the key!!!!!

Everything that Mick McCarthy has ever done has ended in tears. He is fundamentally flawed by his own ego, which does not allow him to ever accept that he has made a mistake.

At the Wolves, we cannot wait for our manager to mature into a well-rounded human being. He has failed us badly this season. He has no role in the next season. Full-stop, end!

    29. Absolutely. All managers make mistakes but if you look at the signings we are on the right track.

I can’t help but think of Monty Python when some bloggers starting wanting a new messiah. Besides, SEB isn’t the new messiah he’s just a very naughty boy.

  35. SUPERSTARDJWOLVES said:

Goldenwolves - I guess your post is probably aimed at me too. I am not a MM fan. Never will be. I am a Wolves fan always will be. Just because fans dont like the manager doesnt necessary mean we are losers! Opinions are divided on this bloke, he has his good points “signing MK, AK, SEB” Has had his bad points “signing S.Ward, D.Ward, KK, S.Elliott, JB, Sending craddock to stoke, Freddy-gate to name but a few” I just think he has stumbled on a formula which he has finally grapsed that:-
He has dropped his favourites, playing players in thier correct positions and ffs drop the arrogant digs at the fans!

Before anyone says anything… “I am not a hypercrite” I still think he is a muppet!

  36. Dutch Wolf said:

I think ne have too many stikers now but it is clear that SEB is the best we have by far & keogh is a great workhorse alongside him who can also score. He made Billy Sharpe look good at Scunny & look at him now at Shef Utd! Sad to say but maybe it is time for Feeddy to pack up his trailer & move on?

It looks like my dream is coming true - watching the Baggies get to the Semi’s only to lose, pick up some injuries & have low motivation for the last crucial games!

oh so forget about miller, morrison, brunt, koren, gera, bednar (who will sign)

clement fat ? he is better than breen
phillips too old ? why has he got 23 goals this season then
robinson got a dodgy knee ? well he has the most assists in the championship
grandad greening ? he is 29 and the best central midfielder in the league

Yes kightly,ebanks-blake and hennesy are good prospects but playing for wolves isnt gonna get them anywhere

i was full of respect for how wolves have come back into the play offs but with idiots like you then they deserve to sit in mid table

17, Scottwolf1, “We moaned at MM for playing Ward on the wing when Jarvis was sat on the bench and then we moaned at MM when he started Kyle but kept a proven goal scorer on the bench…”

If you recall, the reason that Jarvis was on the bench at that time was that he had just recovered from a long-term injury. To bring him straight back in would have been folly. The benefits of that was when Jarvis did start he came back fully fit, and made an immediate impact. (Many of you say that he brought Kights back after a couple of weeks out, but wanted to bring Matty J back immediately, after being out for months. That is hard for ME to understand. It comes across as “anything to knock Mick with.”)

Who was this proven goalscorer that was on the bench? I presume you mean the “darling of the South Bank” Mr Eastwood. He, as has been shown on here many times, is not a “proven goalscorer” at Championship level. Whilst it is true that he has the potential to be so, he has not yet proven it at this level. (14 goals in 70+ appearances is not proven, especially as five of those were from the penalty spot. It’s less than a goal every seven games from open play. Collins, as a defender, has a better record than that.)

oh and to reply to your coment about where will it get them playin for wolves-kightly-from none league to the england u21’s
