Injured Vic’s a cup battler

Vic StirrupHe has supported the Baggies for 84 years and only missed seven games since the Second World War.

But after a fall outside The Hawthorns on Saturday Vic Stirrup feared he would miss one of the most important matches since he first stood on the terraces aged five.

But it will take more than cuts and bruises to keep him from the FA Cup semi-final against Portsmouth at Wembley on Saturday.

The drama unfolded after Vic, aged 89, was dropped off near to the entrance for his seat ahead of the 4-3 Championship win against Colchester. He said: “A gust of wind caught me and I fell over. I had to have stitches in my head and bruised my elbows and thumbs.”

Former newsagent Vic, of William Road, Smethwick, will travel to Wembley on a coach with hope in his heart – and a bandage on his head.

This is what being a west brom fan is all about, passion, loyalty and following the club through thick and thin, Albion fans (particularly those who booed Kiely) can take pride in such a honorable example of commitment. Good on ya Vic! Hope to see you at Wembley!! boing boing!!!!!!!!!

a true wba supporter,if the baggies had any loyality to the fans the club should get this old black countryman a limo, make it a great day out for him,it is nice to know there are still a few good old honest supporters out there, even though im a wolves fan my grandad in the late 40’s 50’s and 60’s did a lot of support work for the baggies,it make ya heart go warm when you see the loyality in the black country, good on ya.

Good luck,Vic.Hope TM & the rest of the boys can give you a nice dose of medicine on Saturday.
Reading about Vic reminded me of our Old Geography teacher @ Alexandra High School in Tipton.
Mr Oldhams was is name( we all called him Noddy for obvious reasons). If you fancied doing nowt for that particular lesson, you just had to get himon his favorite subject,West Bromwich Albion & all thoughts Merino sheep in Australia or the effects of the Industrial Revolution in Northern England went out of the window!

My Dad used to do a paper round for Vic in the late 50’s!! I now work occasionally with Vic’s grand-daughter Lucy who will also be at Wembley!!

He re-arranged his wedding twice to avoid missing Albion games and 3 of the games he DID miss were down to being in hospital following a hip replacement!!

Amazing support! Maybe the club could do something for his 90th birthday this year?

Its fans like this that in my opinion the club should give a season ticket too.

It would be nice if he could lead the team out at one of the games with a bit of luck the final would be nice
