Walsall full back Paul Boertien has vowed to get their play-off push back on track, starting against Tranmere on Saturday.
The disappointing defeat at Southend on Saturday put the Saddlers five points behind their play-off rivals, having played a game less than the Merseysiders.
And with fifth placed Forest and eighth placed Leeds facing away trips to Carlisle and Doncaster tonight, a win on Saturday would see them right back in the picture.
“We’re not going to give up on the play-offs,” Boertien said.
“We’re only five points off the play-offs with a game in hand, so we’re still in there with a chance, but we’re not going to do it playing like we did at Southend.
“We’re going to have to go on a good run from now until the end of the season to get in. Every game is obviously a hard game at this stage of the season because the points matter for both teams and we need to just start picking up points whoever we play against, whether it’s against the top of the table team or whoever, we’ve just got to start winning and we need to start on Saturday against Tranmere.”
Boertien was impressed with play-off rivals Sout-hend on Saturday, but he believes their fine display was mainly down to the Saddlers own poor display.
A strong Walsall reserves side were beaten 4-0 by Port Vale at Vale Park last night.
Saddlers fielded several first team regulars, including Darren Wrack, Kevin Betsy, Edrissa Sonko, Stefan Moore and Alassane N’Dour in addition to new signing Aaron Brown, but suffered a disappointing defeat.
