Mowbray: It could still all go wrong

Tony MowbrayAlbion boss Tony Mowbray today admitted the Baggies’ season could still turn into a failure if they slip up in the final month. Mowbray’s side have earned rave reviews by hitting 99 goals and reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

But the manager is conscious his side must win promotion to the Premier League or lift the Cup to avoid the campaign being dismissed as an anti-climax.

“We’re still fighting on two fronts,” said Mowbray, whose side head to Cardiff tonight for a vital Championship fixture.

“A lot of teams would like to be in position and we’ll see how we go. Ultimately it could be portrayed as a poor season if we get beaten in the semi-final and don’t win promotion. Or it could be a wonderful season and at least we’ve got an opportunity to make it a wonderful season.

“We’ll be giving our best to achieve that goal.”

The road to Wembley takes Mowbray and Co through the Welsh capital tonight and victory over the Bluebirds would restore them to the top two in the Championship ahead of the FA Cup semi-final with Portsmouth on Saturday.

And tonight’s clash is the second of six games in a fortnight that could determine the outcome of the season.

Mowbray, however, has played down the problems of fixture congestion and urged his team to relish the wall-to-wall matches.

“We’ve just played five games in 15 days and then had the international break,” he said. “Now we’ve got to go again.

“We’ve got to enjoy it and look forward to each game as it comes along. We’ve got to be positive and see where our journey ends.”

And Mowbray insists he team have no fears about playing on the road as they embark on three successive matches away from The Hawthorns.

“We’ve done okay on the road in the last half-a-dozen games,” he said. “There is nothing to fear.”

Remember in 1990…Alec Ferguson dropped his “experienced” former Aberdeen goalkeeper Jim Leighton after a poor display in the final and controversially selected Les Sealey for the replay….Was the “tough decisions” aspect of his managerial style(much as I can’t stand the bloke!)- that has made him the success he is(+ dosh)….So I think TM can learn from that…It could be the type of action that takes him and us to the next level…..

Sensible comments from a well balanced manager, wouldn’t expect any different. Far better than BFR who would be trumpeting that we’re going to win everything in sight and in the process winding up the opposition.

What a pointless posting. Sorry if I’ve missed the joke. You may be right about us not going up but you don’t know. We did let in 4 goals against Leicester, do you think this will get us gnashing our teeth? I really can’t see why you bothered with this.

10 - maybe we will - but its always better than being bored to death the Merlin way.

Oh sorry, i forgot you are a great team now after two games… I bet Man Utd are shaking in their boots.

Finchy - Wolves!!!! You’re a loser mate, total loser. It’s not our fault that you haven’t had much to shout about, no need to wish us bad luck. I personally don’t wish anything against your lot. It’s just a bit sad that your bitterness stretches so far that you can’t wish a fellow midlands well in a cup semi final

Would it seriously satisfy you if we fail to win the cup or promotion? Would that make you happy if you fail to make the playoffs? I would’ve thought after whta happened last May, we’d be the last team you’d want to face in that scenario! Idiot!!

You seem to have lost faith in your ability to wind us up. Is this really the best you can manage. Come on have another go, give it your best shot.

Spite, spite and still more spite from stomach-acid generating, bitter and twisted, lacking in the milk of human kindness, nasty-minded, low-brow….. I can’t think of a word suitable to finish and E&S wouldn’t like me to use a naughty one. Start your crowing AFTER we’ve lost all interest in the FA Cup and promotion, not before you brainless tits!

Not really. Getting a neutral reply doesn’t correspond to winding anyone up. I was merely trying to save you from embarrassing yourself any further with such inane postings. I won’t bother again. Why keep quiet and have people think you’re an idiot when you can come on here and confirm it.
