Henry: Top two is on for us

wd2511003qpr-v-wolves-23-g.jpgCaptain Karl Henry believes Wolves’ form is now so good they could even sneak automatic promotion to the Premier League.

The midfielder’s priceless winner saw Mick McCarthy’s men regain their place in the top six with a dramatic victory at Charlton on Saturday.

The win made it 17 points from the last 24 for Wolves and only Hull have a better record from the Champonship’s top 12.

Henry reckons Wolves have come to the boil at exactly the right time.

“We want to get up there and maybe automatic promotion isn’t beyond our reach. You never know,” said Henry. “We fancy ourselves having been on a good run of form. It’s always important being the in-form team at this stage of the season and we want to continue that now.

“We’re delighted with our position. All season games haven’t gone our way and I’m sure other teams will say the same.

“It’s been a difficult season but we’ve kept grinding away and in these last four or five weeks especially, we’ve started to come into our own.

“We’re passing the ball a lot better and looking a lot more solid.”

Henry has been one of a few players who have suffered from the fans’ frustration as Wolves’ form has fluctuated.

But he hopes his 94th minute winner has answered his critics.

“At times results haven’t gone our way and myself and a couple of other players have come in for some stick this season,” said the former Stoke man

“So it’s always nice to score and maybe it will keep the few that have been on my case off my back, so I’m delighted. Long may it continue. We’ve had great backing from the fans. Although I may have had some stick, the fans have been tremendous all season, home and away.”

Hahahaha sneek automatic promotion. now that really is a april fool LOL…..

  3. Greg Cooper said:

Uh-oh - he’s gone and done it now! Watch as the team proceeds to slip up against Brizzle and Albion, and fails to make even the play-offs! I admire your opimism Karl but isn’t it better to keep your ambitions understated?.. the fact that so many players were underperforming in mid-season is the main reason why we are highly unlikely to achieve automatic promotion. Of course I would be delighted if we did, but I wouldn’t bet my house on it…

i wanted Mick out as could never see Wolves taking 17 points from last 24 (8 games), but although the footy hasnt always been great its results that count! I am not u-turning as such but am suprised by the upturn in results. I would prefer Big Sam at the helm regardless if we even go up!!

Karl I hope you are right but we have some hard matches in the run up, but if all the lads guts and determination is shown for the remainder of games like QPR and Charlton then who knows.

and henry is only saying what i have heard half teh wolves fan say over the last 2 days, if we beat bristol and albion then we will be right up there!!

just get behind the lads we can achieve big things we are wolverhampton wanderers!!!

look, im prob one of MM’s biggest critics and some of his decisions (loaning out Craddock, not finding an adequate replacement on loan for Kites etc) and the last couple of weeks e.g Eastwood, as got fans myself included discussing/arguing on here/forums and even in the stands.
so my point despite what we all think, who should play, who should manage the wolves etc.
We should get behind them, and has they say the rest will take care of itself….. i saw a banner on MOTD, and it was Man City, it read something like this:
“i dream to play for Man City, but today God chose you, so do it for us!! come on City!!”.
like i said whatever happens, may sound corny but we need them as much as they need us. so for the final run of games, can we all unite (wolves fans obviously) and cheer them on (like against the saints last year) and back them.
if keogh misses a chance, applaud him lets pick him up to go again.
if jarvis puts in a bad cross, same again clap him.
despite what we have all seen this year, and you question a persons will to succeed, but these lot (like i said who plays etc) are the most passionate players, collectively ive seen down the molineux since i started going in 1990.
although prob not the most skilled players, if they try, thats all you can ask for.
so lets do our bit, and hope they do theres, and leave any other talk till the season end.

Whoever looks after the pr side of the club and arranges these interviews with players and manager needs a really good slap. A lot of problems in relationship between the club and the fans have been because of interviews where really stupid comments are made. Actions speak a thousand times louder than words so the policy should be no interviews except post match. I admire your optimism Henry but you’re asking for trouble with interviews like this

  14. Wolfbrand said:

Why don’t we just keep quiet and let us do the talking on the pitch?

Automatic promotion would have been a possibility had the referees decided not to award random penalties against Southampton and PNE. Play-offs likely provided we get about 12 points.

  15. southbank barmy Army said:

i posted that yesterday i think on another thread. yes automatic is still a possibility, but comes down to 2 major factors.
    1. we must keep winning, draws are no good now.
    2. the teams above us need to keep their stuttering performances going till the end of the season. ( very likely as the pressure mounts )
but i agree with all the comments above, lets secure a top six finish, play offs look the most likely but top 2 would be brilliant.

MAKIN’ THE PLAY OFFS THE MCARTHY WAY..IN STYLE OF COURSE..OH YES.

THE SOUTHBANK..BARMY ARMY..COME ON YOU WOLVES.

we have no chance of automatic, we are only just scraping the playoffs. Wishful thinking though Thierry.

  17. Jon Finlan said:

Nothing wrong with having confidence, keep it up karl. 6 wins out of six and you never know. That would give us 79 points which i personally think means play offs.

this is a big ask but we can stiil do it if we get behind th lads and stop booing them we can do it.But wolves and albion can both go up automatic which will be good as the preimership dont have very west mids team in it :)

Where do we get our banner ??

As supporters all that we can do is let them know we are behind them
No player wants to give a poor pass or a sloppy cross and they feel it too

The only thing as fans to do is shout them home and it is not beyond the realms of possibility

1 FAN is worth 100 supporters when it comes to the crunch

  34. Codsallwolf said:

I see the boo boys as unruly relatives. We are stuck with them. Nothing we can do about it.

Hopefully they will learn that the club needs support through good times bad, that fans offer opinions based on football not on the fact that they have decided to hate the manager.

  35. shatpankwolves said:

26&27. just said what i felt is neccessary,we all hurt the same when we get a defeat, some may display there passion for wolves more than others but still love the club no more or no less than the next wolves fan.
like i said i have contributed to the slagging off of certain player/management etc but this is “squeaky bum time” now and hand on heart i would rather cheer them than jeer them.
we rely on these guys, they can make or wreck our weekend.
and like morgan said “people respond better with praise rather than critisism”.
if morgan decides to boot MM at end of season, then so be it, but while MM is still manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC then (Gulp) i have got to back him over these next few weeks, and not at ashton gate, but back at molineux where like myself/the boo-boys have got to take a backseat, and the club must take priority.
forget all the crap we have had this season, i apologise to anyone i have offended/disagreed with over this season, now is the time for us to stand together united, and show this poxy league (and papers who wrote we are the hardest fans to please) that when called upon, when you mess with Wolverhampton Wanderers fc you mess with us!!!!!!
    !WE ARE WOLVES!

We need to stay in touch with reality. Too much depends, not on our results alone, but on those of the teams around us. Nice a thought as it might be, we can’t expect everybody else to keep losing! But here’s hoping.

but you never know Moore might come good.

  42. brummie rob wolves said:

There is nothing wrong with confidence but automatic is highly unlikely.
Of the last 6 games we are likely to lose one - probably Bristol City - and get a couple of draws- Albion and Coventry. Then we must beat Ipswich, Cardiff and Plymouth. That would mean another 11 points. Just about enough for the play offs!

  43. scottwolf1 said:

Karl is right. I’ve been waiting for one of the players to say this. Havent you noticed that near the end of the season there is always a team that comes with a run near the end of the season? Sundelrand, us a few years ago, birmingham the year b4, crystal palace. Karl is right. There is no reason why we cant do it

  50. Spanish Wolf said:

    44. Define the term ‘Loyal’ Are you one of our ‘Loyal’ boo boys?!

In respect to Karls comments. Aim for the stars and you just might reach the roof tops. If is still achievable, if unlikely, i would expect all the team to have same attitude. Or do we want them to be AIMING for mid table???

Just go for it, and then maybe the dream will happen.

Good to see some optimism from captain Karl - hopefully the team will back him up and destroy bristol and annihilate the tescos…. please

  57. Thamewolf said:

Let’s keep our feet on the ground. The game against Charlton went our way because of the goals we scored were inspirational. But a little analysis will tell us that Charlton created quite a bit of pressure themselves in the second half, and they showed up our weakness to the high ball into the heart of our defence. There’s no doubting though, that this win must have given everybody new hope for the run-in and comes at just the right time. There is a concern however, as to how we are going to keep the vultures of the prem from hovering over Sylvan, Jarvis, Kites, Hennessey, etc.

  58. goldwolfinFL said:

Scotty… You are the type of person that we need to get rid of. Your comments are completely negative at a time when we need ALL loyal supporters to get behind, not only the lads, but the manager too. You and your cronies, 55wolf included, destroy the unity we need at this point in time.
For Christ sake let’s all get behind everyone and take the POSITIVES out of our recent performances.
We can do it. We may even get an automatic place.
Mick is on the short list for manager of the month. Surely that tells you friggin’ idiots how well we’re doing at the present time.

  59. DudzieWolf said:

He has his best game of the season and his confidence returns, he must carry this through till the end tho. I don’t think top two but play-offs is certainly a big possibilty, and if we hit them on form then who knows. No harm in being positive

  60. Dave said:

It’s usually the fans that get carried away after a good result or two, but now the players are at it!

I’m sure the other teams we are playing will love statements like that. Take a reality check Karl and don’t get too big for your boots having scored a goal.

I think any right minded person would settle for scraping into sixth place right now with our run in.

  61. Baggiebob said:

Well, anything is possible. It’s good to dream; especially between 8 and 9.30 next Tuesday, Karl!
