Promotion is key, if we go up Mowbray can sort the defence out and improve our attack even more!..If we don’t go up we risk losing a few players (Bednar, Gera). The cup would be great but if we are promoted and push on we could be back in the semis sooner rather then later. Boing Boing still it happened in 1931..why not both again?

    CUP
People remember who won the cup world wide (plus a UEFA cup space) This is History, Pride and Passion.
Premier League is only about MONEY

We’ve had this debate many times on here but it’s got to be promotion. As in business a football club can’t stand still. I know being a fan is at least partly about the romance, otherwise we’d all cherry pick our teams like the Man Utd fans and winning the cup will always have great appeal to a club like ours. This division has been tough this year and next year will be harder, 3 prem clubs down and others ie QPR with cash to spend. I’m happy watching football in this league which is fortunate because to be honest if we don’t go up this year I think we may have a long stay. Don’t want to sound pessimistic, just trying to be objective.

Promotion is the key to the future!
As #1 says if we go up we can improve the team and win it next year!

I still fancy both, mind you ;)

  5. Happy_baggie said:

The trouble is I agree with both 1 & 2….

I can tell you you who won the FA Cup in 1975, 1980 or 86 or 90 etc….. but not who got promoted (or relegated).

There is also the possibility of us going up and coming back down again (although this squad is so much more suited to the prem than any previous albion squad).

So , would I swap just one season of potential hammerings for the everlasting glory of winning the cup ??

Err - actually, I probably would.

But whilst we can still do both I am happy to dream - no one said we have to choose yet.

    want both if im honest
but look at derby this season
not saying that would happen to albion
but who wants to suffer that week in week out
its great seeing the worlds best players but its about time this club won something
so at the moment its the cup for me
    come on you baggies !!!!!!!

i think that we need to get up to the premier division becase this has been our long term target ,to let all of this go now for a pice of metal is just stupid,i dont care how much pride it will be , we need to get to the premiership or we are going to lose alot of our players ,up the baggies !

  8. Wbaforever said:

    This is a difficult one,
you HAVE to aspire to ply your trade against the best,
but those aspirations also lead to the logical conclusion, that we will not score so freely,
and therefore not win so many games in the PL.
The splinters in my rear end are uncomfortable…….so i`ll go ……err…….
    promotion.

Bully, sorry to hear about your car break in.
I have left you a suggestion in another thread,
    and it is,
You can join Sandwell park golf club as a social member for around £40, with secure parking using a swipe card.

If we get promoted, it’ll be impossible to get tickets!

Players will just ask for more money in the Premier League, we will get battered every week and it’ll be thoroughly depressing. I’d rather we win the cup and Wolves go up, then they can get battered every week and the Albion can gloat.

  10. Codsallwolf said:

    3. I agree. Promotion should be the priority, but at this stage you can afford to say “why not both”?
If Albion get an automatic promotion spot then you will have time to pick the players to strengthen
the squad for the premiership, a luxury that Derby did not have since they went up via the play-offs
and were therefore three weeks behind the competition. In that sense Albion could have a better chance of
    staying up than Derby.

  11. Lee Jones said:

The Cup is something that no one can ever take away, so I’d say the Cup. If we won the Championship, that would be great too, and to do both would be massive. We will not be “blasted” every week if we go up by the way. We’ll hold our own, its just getting up thats the hard part.

  12. baggie_kez said:

    If you have to choose….

Its the cup for me…not going to have a chance like this again, and i dont think that we’re ready for promotion with this team….especially with THAT defensive showing on Sat!

  13. Great_Barr Baggie said:

We all want to get promoted - but do we want to be in the Premier league, really??? The championship is a far better league to play in. Much more excitement and goals (at both ends)!! Of course i want us to be in the Premiership, but isn’t it about enjoyment and entertainment, and i’m getting all of that right now!!!

  14. beevower said:

It has to be the Cup for me. A cup win is forever.

If we get promoted (and I hope we do as champions!) what is the best we can ever hope for? Realistically top 6/8 in the premiership consistently? Look at Charlton – they had top 6 to 12 finishes for about 8 years and now look at them? If we get promoted it is still very unlikely that we would ever win the FA cup anyway………1995 was the last time a none big 4 team won it and that was Everton (no.5 in the prem).

This year is a freak year and we have an unbelievable chance of lifting the trophy. Realistically this is the best chance and probably the only chance I’ll ever get to see Albion win the FA Cup and I’m old 28 years old! Promotion will come round again in my lifetime I’m sure. It’s sad but that’s how football is these days. If we’ve not been following the Albion through the dark days in hope of one day lifting the FA Cup or League title again what have we been doing it for?

  15. The Real Bully said:

8 Forever. Saw it and thanks again.
I know what people mean about struggling in the prem and remembering previous visits, it ain’t a lot of fun by Easter time, losing week in week out. But on the mercenary practical side, no more parachute payments and without a sugar daddy we could be settling for mid table mediocrity in this division and yes the cup is great but how many Milwall fans would swap their cup final appearance for a decent future? The dream is still winning both but the nightmare would be another season trying to get out of this tough division.

  16. Maghullbaggie said:

My heart says Cup but my head says Promotion.
The cup winner will go down in history and never be forgotten.
Gaining promotion is only the start to making Albion a premiership team.
When you look at what we did in 1930 - 31 it was a unique double that very few football fans know about.
Many people I talk to have no idea that we are the only club to have done this and many believe that Sunderland have also done this double (yes they are wrong)
Man Utd, Spurs etc are all known for doing the double????
If we can make it a unique double then surley in this day and age it would be somthing never to be equalled

  17. Dan West'Baggie' said:

Promotion is the key specially with the 60million prize winning the cup would be great, until
august, where we will be playing the likes of carlisle & doncaster and realistically were not not
going to get very far in europe, also if we don’t go up players will leave i.e. gera, bednar (won’t
sign permently), jonno, brunty will surely take interest from prem teams, also winning the cup would
put the majority of our players in the shop window and our manager and it proved last summer there is
no loyalty in footy & unlike last summer we won’t have the parachute money, so promotion for me, boing boi
    boing

Winning the Cup 40 years on is the ultimate dream for me.I was there in 68 and It is a memory I have always treasured. We all want to get to the Premier league but I despise the greed assosciated with it. So I willtake a Cup final win and go for promotion next year!

  20. baggie said:

I think i would go for the cup..It has always been a dream to watch the baggies actually lift a trophy.i am not counting 93 as that was more like a paper weight.

wbaforever - yep I think it’s the same end as last year

oh - and while I’d LOVE both, I’d settle for losing the cup in the final (just to get there would be amazing!) and going up as Champions!

  27. terrylvspam said:

i want the double cuz i know we are good enough, but if its one or the other id take the cup and europe, aint to bothered about the prem been there done that to many teams just playing to stay in there, and we would be one of them, lets have the cup boing boing

    “The Impossible dream”

    To dream the impossible dream
    To fight the unbeatable foe
    To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

    To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
    To reach the unreachable star

    This is my quest
    To follow that star
    No matter how hopeless
    No matter how far

    To fight for the right
    Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
    For a heavenly cause

And I know if I’ll only be true
    To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I’m laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
    To reach the unreachable star

The double is still on - dare to dream lads !!!

  29. Soren said:

The cup, no doubt about that.

    1. It is the only chance we have of winning it ever again, plus if we do we will play sides in Europe next season!

  30. Marc said:

go up, the cup in my view as alwase been a bonus
for me but it still would be nice to win the cup

  31. Si said:

The players/club will want promotion undoubtedly. Fans the cup? It seems so from what a lot are saying.

I’m surprised many of you say you wouldn’t mind winning the cup at the expense of promotion because
promotion will only mean hammerings next season! So many times we hear how fans berate their club for lacking ambition. Are you guilty of lacking ambition for your club if you think we’ll get beaten all the time and would prefer to see us the championship because its safe and we know we’ll win most of our games?

If we don’t get promoted, then as sure as eggs is eggs, we will be mid table mediocrity before long - the money will dry up and you’ll be wishing you’d said promotion at all costs.

sorry but I say promotion. I’ll be going to Wembley on Saturday and I’ll be thrilled if we make the final but if we don’t it wont be the end of the world. I would prefer 3 points against Cardiff then a win on Saturday.

    28 Happy.
Not a dry eye in the house and before LCW and his cronies come on with their predictable you’ll be crying at Wembley jibes. Yes we will, tears of joy because we’re there and whatever the result we’ll be Baggies fans singing together not booing.

  33. Jonah said:

Winning The FA Cup is what fans of most of the clubs in the country dream about. So it has to be the Cup for me. No Question. We will never have a better chance to do it.

  34. Wbaforever said:

    Thanks for the feedback Laura,

However….that`s a superstitious slap in the face.

I have witnessed defeats to QPR, Man City &
Derby at that end of the stadium,
but Victories against Everton and Vale at the other.

  35. Happy_baggie said:

wbaforever - we had both ends of Highbury for our semis against Ipswich and QPR - it didn’t help.

    I’m just relying on Jarrod’s dad’s lucky pants !

Si (no.31)) - what is your realistic ambition for WBA?

  40. themowbrayway said:

    Not into hyperthetical questions.
We have to aim for both and that’s what the club will do. We all want both, but I’d say the odds are on promotion more than winning fa cup.
I’m totally focused on Tuesday night and looking forward to getting a win at Cardiff. I hope the players are of the same mind.
