Promotion priority for Wolves ace

ebanksblake2.jpgSylvan Ebanks-Blake today revealed he’s a big fan of Albion’s Kevin Phillips – but insists his desire to topple him as Championship top scorer will count for nothing unless Wolves are promoted.

The powerhouse striker goes into tomorrow’s tea-time clash at Charlton with 20 goals already this season, including seven in 13 since his £1.5m move from Plymouth in January.

That form has given the former Manchester United reserve confidence to go for the Championship’s version of the Golden Boot, and he trails Phillips by one in the League, 19 to 18.

But he vowed his goalscoring accolades come second to getting Wolves promoted.

“I’m at a good stage now where I can set a target for myself and that’s hopefully to become the Championship’s top goalscorer,” said Ebanks-Blake.

“More importantly it’s about getting in the play-offs and into the Premier League because that’s my dream and it’s the ambition of everyone at this club, manager and players.

“Personal accolades come second but it would be great to finish as top scorer. Kevin Phillips is an unbelievable finisher and unbelievable player.

“He’s scored plenty of goals in his career and at one point got a record amount in the Premiership.

“To be up there against him is really good for me at this stage and another part of the learning curve.

“I’m just relishing it at the moment and enjoying my football. Being up there against someone like Kevin Phillips is great and shows where I am aiming to be.

“But I’m just desperate to play in the Premier League and hopefully we can get there this season.

“That’s what I come into training to work on every day, to be the best I can be which is all I can do.”

Ebanks-Blake tasted the high life in two years as a pro at Old Trafford after coming through their Academy.

10xs better than Freddy Wastewood, even if Freddy does deserve a start you cant drop them as they all scored last week. Regardless of how bad Keogh’s miss was. Keeping the faith in Mick and the team will pay dividence in the end.

hes just what we need, he is a quality striker!!!
he very rarely looses the ball and almost everytime he gets the opportunity he has a shot!!! He has scored 7 in 13 games for us with very little service. imagine him with kightly and jarvis supplying service!!!

3 - Then what will you say if Paul Ince or Big Sam come in and they realise that Freddy is no better than what MM knows and ship him off…..Super Incey??? or will they get the same amount of stick for not playing a person with a bad attitude? More like silence I guess.

Re 9 - you must have read my mind because I was thinking the same thing. Guys like 3 just say things like ‘Big Sam in’ because they think it’s the right thing to say - if he knew anything about football then he would be aware that Allardyce’s style of football is even less pleasing on the eye than McCarthy’s. He is just on the ‘McCarthy out’ bandwagon.. and if a new manager did not see anything more in Eastwood than McCarthy has done, and get rid of him, then the Freddy lovers won’t know what to say or do. I think that Eastwood should be given a chance to show what he can do, but if him being at the club continues to polarise our supporter’s opinions then ultimately the best thing may be for him to leave. I am so sick of this debate, it is boring me to tears..

9 & 11. Nothing sets off alarm bells like the mention of ‘Big Sam’, …well apart from maybe ‘Hartson’!

    11. Spot on, it was embarrasing the weekend in the SB with all the Freddy chants going on. I really don’t know what he has done to earn this cult status, maybe if all our players started fights in clubs in essex and turned up with a bad attitude they’d also get this status. On the other hand it could be because he’s got a real easy name to chant!

SEB is a great player, the most complete forward we’ve had for a long time

SEB is the best striker at wolves by quite a distance, a class act.
A potential snip at 1.5 and is premiership class if we can get there.

    Come on wolves

Enough already about ruddy Eastwood. We have a great striker in SEB. Draw a line and get over it.
