The Chestnut pool produced two excellent 60 lb plus top weights in the Wednesday match at Boldings Pools.
Wrexham’s regular visitor Howard Willan clinched victory with 67-10-0 of carp to 7 lbs from peg 30 where he used sweetcorn and maggots at six metres.
Oakengates based Dave Barnard’s second best 61-0-0 came from nearby peg 28 on the island where carp to 6 lbs responded to maggots.
Thursday saw Wolverhampton star Dave Brown back in action with a 59-15-0 clear winner off peg 16 on the Beech.
Using his favourite maggots bait and feed offered shallow he hooked small carp between 1 lb and 2 lb from an area at twelve metres.
Another Wolverhampton rod, Mark Foster was second with 51-12-0 of carp to 6 lbs.
He too used maggots but in the margins for carp to 6 lbs. Ken Humphries who travelled all the way from Oswestry won the Saturday event on the Ash pool with 47-15-0 of carp between 1 lb and 4 lb from peg 9.
His haul also came to maggots from peg 9. Another Oakengates based Rod & Gun team man, Mal Kitson’s second best 45-14-0 of carp to 5 lbs was also taken with pellets and sweetcorn from peg 18 also on the Ash.
Storey’s team expert Paul Evans won the Sunday clash which was on several pools with a 61-3-0 bag of carp to 7 lbs from Sycamore peg 39.
He used maggots at 12 metres for carp to 7 lbs. Wolverhampton’s Paul Cartwright’s (O B Wolves) second best 58-2-0 consisted of carp to 6 lbs caught on the ‘shelf’ in the margins with maggots.
The week at Tunnel Barn Farm began with an excellent Monday fixture which produced three 77 lbs plus top weights from the House One pool.
Winner Paul Wellington’s (Mosella) 77-3-0 of carp to 4 lbs plus bream and roach came to bronze maggots offered at six metres at peg 9. At nearby peg 16 was second man Roy Winfindale (Stirrup Cup) who offered pellets at 8 metres for 74-3-0 of carp to 5 lbs.
The Thursday match which was also on the New pool was won by Rob Swain (Tackle Box) with 73-1-0 of carp and bream hooked at varying depths with bronze maggots offered at 9 metres at peg 21.
Manager Graham Young’s 67-15-0 second best catch of carp to 4 lbs came from peg 30 where he used sweetcorn feed and hookbait.
Cold weather reduced catches at the weekend and the Saturday event was won with 48-11-0 taken by Banbury visitor Pete Caton.
He caught bream, and quality roach to 1 lb 8 oz with pellets at 7 metres. Kevin Denis’s (Alternative Baits) second best 48-10-0 was made up with a good mix of carp chub, bream and roach caught from peg 20 on bronze maggots at 6 metres.
Both the New and Extension pools were used for the Sunday fixture and peg 29 on the latter threw up a second win of the week 67-14-0 catch for Pete Caton. On this occasion he caught carp to 8 lbs and bream to 2 lbs with pellets at 12 metres.
Dave Machin’s (Alternative Baits) 61-10-0 second best bag bream, roach and carp fell to red maggots offered at 8 metres. Bridgnorth based Carl Haywood won the Tuesday Cost Cutter match at Moorlands Farm With 55-12-0 of small carp from peg 27 on the Silver pool’. Grouped with the Boldings team he used pellet feed and hookbait.
Chris Clemor’s (Dudley A C) 50-12-0 second best bag consisted of about 30 lbs of skimmers and 20 lbs of carp also taken with pellets off peg 28 on the Island.
The Wednesday ‘Over Fifties’ match on the Meadow and Moors was won by manager Mal Watson (D G L) with 35-14-0 from peg 7 on the Moors.
He too put his faith in pellets to catch seven similar sized carp but they didn’t feed until the last hour.
Bewdley based Bill Drew’s second placed 35-12-0, also carp came to sweetcorn from peg 12 on Moors. Another Cost Cutter fixture took place around the Silver and Island pools on Thursday and this time it was Neville Groves (Top Fours), who grabbed the winner’s purse.
His all carp to 8 lbs catch came to pellets offered at 10 metres at peg 27 on the Silver.
Paul Little (A & D Lock) was way behind with his 28-4-0 of small roach and bream caught with maggots at peg 28 on the Island/ The Good Friday event was spread over four pools, the Island, Middle, Moors and Bank and Mark Gaylard (D G L) won with 46-4-0 off the latter. He tempted just 9 big carp with legered sweetcorn.
Mal Watson was second with 41-0-0 of small crucians and bream to 12 oz taken with swimfeeder and maggots.
The Saturday open match on the Island, Moors and Middle pools saw Neville Groves back at the top but with a very poor 15-2-0 catch of small carp.
