Goalkeeping stars of the future enjoyed an afternoon of coaching by some of the best in the business at a charity event at a Black Country centre.
More than 100 young goalies had stars in their eyes yesterday as they took part in the coaching session at Goals in Willenhall.
Wolves star Matt Murray was the big name attraction at the charity event and was joined by Blackpool keeper Paul Rachubka, Shrewsbury’s Glyn Garner and Walsall reserve keeper Bertrand Bossu.
Chelsea star Carlo Cudicini, West Bromwich Albion’s Dean Kiely and Walsall’s Clayton Ince had all been due to take part but pulled out at the last minute. However, the youngsters still had a fantastic time and due to its success there are now plans to make it an annual event. Clifton Lenord, whose 12-year-old son Alexander took part in the coaching session, said: “He has had such a brilliant time. It has been so well organised.”
Paul Edmonds, 45, took his 11-year-old son Jake, who plays for Leamore Park Rangers, along to the event. He said: “It’s been absolutely brilliant.”
Matt Murray, who is currently out of the Wolves team with a leg injury, said: “I have really enjoyed the afternoon.”
Mandy Catchpole, organiser of the event, who runs goalkeeping shop Soccer Success, based above Darlaston post office, said: “It has been a really successful event and I hope a lot of money has been raised for the Promise Dreams charity.”
