That’s entertainment! For me, the thrilling 3-3 against QPR goes down as the best game I’ve seen at Molineux all season, writes Wolves blogger Nathan Lloyd.
Ok, so it’s not exactly up against much competition and it’s perhaps saying something when a draw gets my vote as the best game of the campaign.
But seeing Keogh slot home our equalizer in the fifth minute of injury time reminds me why I put myself through the emotional rollercoaster of being a Wolves fan.
The ref, Clive Oliver, had a woeful game, awarding two non-penalties and finding five minutes of injury time, gawd bless him!
And why do Wolves fans leave a game early?
Our performance was far from perfect, but it was resilient and dare I say, hard working.
The defence wobbled at times and Neill Collins was perhaps a tad unlucky to concede his fifth penalty of the season (is that a club record?)
Karl Henry is obviously short of form and confidence and in Kights absence; Matt Jarvis continues to be our main creative threat down the flank.
Olofinjana, who I thought had a poor first half, sprung into life in the second half of the game and began to show why a lot of people in football rate him so highly.
If he could perhaps be a little stronger on the ball and a little quicker in his decision making, then perhaps he could fulfill his obvious potential.
The real headlines though were reserved for the forward line.
SEB continued his good form by smashing home a penalty that should have only been a free kick and Keogh answered his critics with two goals.
I find it amazing the number of different interpretations that has been given to the South Bank chanting for Freddy.
Mick called it disrespectful to Keogh, as the chants started just as he missed a chance on goal.
I and many fans think that after Freddy’s cameo against Scunthorpe where he helped change the game, the chants were really directed at Mick who again had denied Freddy a starting place.
When points are so vital at this stage in this season, I would have given Henry a rest and brought in Freddy to partner SEB up front with Keogh playing in an attacking midfield role.
That would have left Olofinjana to handle the defensive duties in midfield.
Keogh is a support striker; he was never brought into score a boat-load of goals for the club.
And yet in a season where he hasn’t quite captured the form of our last campaign, he is our top scorer with 10 goals and has also supplied the most assists with eight.
But who has really matched or improved on their form from last season?
Apart from the kids on loan at places like Northampton, Hereford and Kiddy, who would you pick out?
Personally I think Michael Gray has been somewhat of an unsung hero this season.
One of McCarthy’s more inspired moves has been to move him from defence into midfield.
He may have lost a yard or two of pace, but he still has a great touch and his cross set up Keogh’s first goal on Saturday.
There were signs on Saturday that just maybe we can finish the season positively.
If we can get three or four points from our next two tough away fixtures against Charlton and Bristol, it should leave us in a healthy position for the remaining five games, four of which are at Molineux.
And if it’s not too early for Kightly, he could return for the Albion game and we could have some real creativity from the flanks, something we have lacked for the majority of the season and I think it has cost us dear.
Come on me babbies.

well said, but i still think the game against charlton in oct last year was our best performance, but saying that i cannot think of many more good performances, sad isnt it!!!!!. UP THE WOLVES
Corker of a game. Would have been the best game of the season had they won!
Utter Bile. How can 3-3 be a good result? We are obviously a poor team. Sack Mick now, bring in a decent manager and lets start planning for the next campaign. The only survivors need to be Hennessy, Foley, Kightly, Jarvis, Edwards, SEB and Freddy. Bin the rest.
can’t argue with a word of that… nicely put.
Mr Smug
Glad you agree with me!
Nice Blog!
Well said 1. Tipton Wolf. Me and my dad had both agreed that Charlton at home was our best performance of the season!
Freddy Eastwood has got to start for me!
Olofinjana is not a defensive midfielder though…
Hi Nath, decent blog mate.
I sit in the south bank and was appauld when the crowd started singing for Freddy when Keogh scuffed his shot. I was one of the first to sing Keogh’s name in response and annoyance. Imagine how he must have felt after missing that chance and then the fans direct chants like that at him. You could argue as you say in your blog it was at MM rather then Keogh but I know I would have took it personally if I was Keogh. I suppose thats where me and Keogh differ apart from the fact he can play football etc… he reacted tremendously and was our get out of jail free card. SEB is another unsung hero, when are wolves fans going to chant his name rather then Freddy’s, he’s the one who is our biggest threat at the moment.
Micky Gray, gives his all which is why the wolves faithful like him so much, Jarvis is looking good too.
Freddy didn’t celebrate with SEB when he scored again but managed to hug Keogh in the last minute. Something isn’t quite right there, I think he is in it for himself and not the team.
Fingers crossed for Saturday against Charlton.
TESCO HAVE GOT SOME SPARE TICKETS ON THEIR BARGE FOR WEMBLEY,ONE WAY ONLY.TERRYWALSALLBAGGIE IS ON THE TILLER,FREE POP AND CRISPS.
7. OsboWolf
I know Big George isn’t a defensive midfielder… but given how Mick will play midfielders up front and defenders in midfield, surely Olofinjana can adapt and do a bit of the defensive duties in midfield?
An exciting match to watch if you are a neutral, but our defensive frailties were exposed again.
The Freddie were directed at MM not at AK, so MM get over yourself!
3, Foley???
Since the team has lost its form, Foley’s form as been terrible, he is a decent propect, but so is Mark Little yet he didn’t cost £700k…….
#3 and #4 what utter tripe you talk. Sacking MM now is going to create more problems than solve them. Negs like you make me sick no doubt you are two of the dummies who constantly boo the team instead of getting behind them. Armchair experts like you haven’t got a clue. Dare I ask just who you consider to be that decent manager you want to replace MM. Wouldn’t be the unproven Mr Paul Ince would it. When MM gets replaced I have no doubt that you’ll be screaming to “sack the new manager” should a couple of results not go
our way. Why don’t you go and follow Walsall Wolves don’t need so called fans like you.
Micky Grey is player of the season for me.
A thoroughly entertaining game, even if my weak bladder meant I missed both our late goals (1st half & 2nd half). If we are going to drop points, I’d rather it be in an entertaining game than a dross 0-0 or 0-1, etc as we have had to many times.
Winning is the most important thing for most fans, but the pundits keep telling us its an entertainment industry, so its nice to be entertained, for a change.
I’m looking forward to the next game already. Bring it on!!
11 even so, do you think AK knew that when they were sung - i don’t think so.
“Ok, so it’s not exactly up against much competition”
Maybe my opinion is slightly biased being a QPR supporter but even your manager showed us some respect before the game. With William Hill installing us as fav’s to win the league next season I think you will be too.
Fair play for coming back 3 times from behind, i’m not convinved our players could have done that (even though it was in injury time that came from nowhere) but still, not taking any credit away from your players, they obviously raised their game a against a team they knew they would have to work hard against if they were going to get anything out of the game.
As for those of you who were not happy with the draw, you should count yourself lucky you got a point at all as you could have quite easily got nothing.
I shouldnt write your team off for getting a draw against us, we’d be top if it wasnt for the first 3-4 months of the campaign when we had John Gregory as manager so a draw against an in form team like yourselves has got to be seen as a good point!
When the crowd started singing freddy after keogh’s miss sometimes it can have a diverse effect you play better or your head sinks and your pulled off, and it usually takes around 2 weeks to get over it, footballers expect that anyware not just wolves. anyone can miss chances sometimes it’s easier to miss than score.
What is it with some fans’ obsession with Freddy Eastwood? They are prepared to insult the players on
the pitch just because they dislike the manager. Get a room. Haven’t they noticed we have a goal
scorer on the pitch called Sylvan Ebanks-Blake. Try calling his name instead. Do they really think
they are making Freddy Eastwood popular in the dressing room.
Hi Nathan - so are you saying that entertainment is more important than results ??
Your starting to sound like a baggies fan !!!
16. QPR Supporter
You’ve misunderstood what I meant. I was talking about the fact that I had voted this game the most entertaining of the season and it’s competition was other games, not the opposition (QPR).
Apart from beating at Charlton at home, we really haven’t been entertained much at all down at the Mol.
In my last blog I’d already said that QPR would be tough opposition, so I certainly meant no disrespect towards the team.
It was a cracking game and I think there were encouraging signs for the rest of the season.
Happy Baggie
Ha ha. Don’t start twisting my words!
It would be nice to win and be entertained, but football is not just a results business.
It was much better game to watch than the Scunnie game previous. Probably because QPR came to play rather than sit behind the ball and hope they could nick a point.
Saying that if we beat you lot but the game is rubbish, I think I could live with that!
freddy himself hasnt really made an impact on the games lately
but….
when he come on both games wolves outscored opposition and look far better going forward
whats bets he on subs bench sat???
on keogh i dont care what anyone says
IF WOLVES WANT PROMOTION
he doesnt score enough goals to get us there, who else going score them?? no one from midfield does
we cant really on collins and ebanks blake for next 10games
Reading all this about last Saturday’s match being “Game of the Season” reminds me off how spoiled we were during Graham Turner’s managership, especially 88-89,when Wolves were winning games with scores like 5-1 v Port Vale 6-1 v Gillingham & 6-0 v Preston & getting crowds of 20,000+ IN 2 STANDS!
Those were the days my friends….
Nathan comment 15,
If AK thought it was directed at him then at least it was did some good as he obviously made him doubly determined to prove the crowd that he is a finisher. So perhaps the fans who did chant freddie had indirectly spurred him on….!
I’m going to make a prediction….
We lose both our away games coming up and then lose at home to Albion, at which point the crowd will turn on Mick.
Just a thought.
23 you are a moron!
MY VIEW:EASTWOOD HAS TO START!!
TEAM LINE UP:
HENNESSEY
FOLEY
CRADDOCK
COLLINS
ELOKOBI
KEOGH(ON RIGHT)
OLOFINJANA
D.EDWARDS(IF FIT)
JARVIS
EASTWOOD
EBANKS-BLAKE
AGREE PEOPLE ?????
22………those really were the days!
Big Wolf
I don’t think your far off, unfortunately I can never see Mick playing Freddy from the start.
One thing is for sure, Henry’s lack of form lately has been disturbing and I think he needs a rest.
My son gets shot at every day in Afganistan,
Sure he would prefer being shouted at by a crowd and get paid very well for it.
Just get on with the job and stop the moans.
The wolves fans wasnt having ago at keogh they were having ago at mick for not starting freddy !! when we know keogh can play down the right .. eastwood and ebanks-blake up front and keogh on the right .. mick has mad this a bigger thing than it was .. trying to get the freddy chanters to shut up .. MAYBE IF YOU WOULD GIVE THE CHAP A RUN OF GAMES !! We would see if freddy would swim or sink !! The Wolves Fans Are Just Frustrated About Not Giving Freddy A Good Amount Of Games On The Bounce !!
Andy Keogh is another frustrating player in the first 20mins he goes and misses a golden opportunity but then by the end of the game he score’s 2 goal!! IT JUST GETS ON MY HEAD IN .. I DONT WANT TO BE NEGATIVE ITS JUST .. MICK IS JUST TO STUBBORN !! Can see why him and roy keane had a bust up now Lol !!
Well said Norman.
Pay me a few grand a week and I’ll stand in a field and take as much abuse as you like!
29. You should be a football manager. It’s so clever the way you take a complex issue and make the
solution so simple.
Great game? How can 3-3 be acceptable?
The season is over. Lets get real and think about a new manager and some new players, get rid of Mick McCarthy now. Play the kids till the end of the season.
The Baggies will have a field day when they play us. We might as well gift wrap the 3 points for them now.
I should write the blog, at least I say it like it is. You lot will believe any old tripe. Get real!
wolf2008:
Mind you, he as got a very valid point.
Balls & banter or bullets,You choose!
Send your son & his comrades all the very best & safe home, Norm!
Magic Mad Merlin:
Just wondering what medication you on?
It has obviously scrambled your sense of reasoning.
Believe it or not,at this present moment in time,Wolves could still mathematically make the play offs!
we all know keogh is a decent player, and we’re glad he’s in the team. but we also know the only player who could form a productive partnership with seb is freddy. it’s easy to praise keogh because he GETS THE CHANCE TO PLAY!!! reguardless, freddy gets the odd snippets here and there. WHY DO SOME FANS LOVE EASTWOOD SO MUCH YOU ASK, well it’s more a case of curiosity really, until freddy gets a decent run of games so then we can all see for ourselves what he offers the club. he could be the new bully, he could well be rubbish, we just want the opportunity to see!!.
29 - 31 i think you are missing the point.
You boy is a soldier because he is hard, Keogh is a footballer because he can play football. That’s the difference. If your lad had a choice i’m sure he would pick football.
3. SAID THE FOLLOWING.
“Utter Bile. How can 3-3 be a good result? We are obviously a poor team. Sack Mick now, bring in a decent manager and lets start planning for the next campaign. The only survivors need to be Hennessy, Foley, Kightly, Jarvis, Edwards, SEB and Freddy. Bin the rest”.
You say sack Mick but all the players with the exception of Hennesey are McCarthys signings. Get a grip mate. The Wolves have a great chance of going up and attracting some real stars. Get behind the team or stay away.
Keogh it is not you we wanted off it was we wanted Eastwood on with you and mad Mick could not see it
Magic Number update.
Unfavourable results next Saturday will See 4 teams in single digits and a fifth ‘allbut’. That would effectively mean we would be one of 6 teams vying for one remaining place. Regarding the drop; with 2 teams on minus values and another on 4, that threat is almost over.
Top 6 (previous)
Stoke 11 (14)
Bristol 12 (14)
Watford 14 (17)
Hull 14 (22)

34. Where is the choice? It’s two totally different career paths requiring different skills and talent.
I applaud the soldiers in Afghanistan, they are doing a great job. I also applaud Andy Keogh. He is a
similar mould to Kightly. Both put in the effort and aren’t just there to pick up the pay check every
week.
Actually Nathan,
A police car and a screaming siren
Pneumatic drill and ripped up concrete
A baby wailing a stray dog howling
The screech of brakes and lamplights blinking
THATS ENTERTAINMENT !!!!
Hope that helps….
9,all board all aboard going to wembley along the cut boing boing
Nathan Lloyd - there is your next blog fella. Should footballers be paid so much!?!?!?
No 3 Anti Blog - Did you actually read the article?
I can’t see 3-3 being referred too as a good result anywhere.
At least read and digest the article before making such daft comments
Whilst i’ll agree there are issues at the club to be sorted, if, big IF, we won our game in hand we would only be 7 points off the top team, thats no massive disaster, this season is still wide open for us, lets get behind the team, you never know
Not the ideal result but as someone who goes to watch the games, unlike most people on here I suspect, I was pleased to see an entertaining game. The ‘it’s only the result that matters brigade’ must like spending their time watching teletext, listening to beacon or going shopping, cause I wouldn’t pay £400 a year just to find out what the result is.
I have always said that Wolves should have two from SEB, Keogh and Eastwood up front and I think we will go close to the top 6 if we play with two of them for the rest of the year. In case people haven’t noticed things have changed in 2008 compared to up to two months ago. We are scoring goals now but we are conceding more. I would rather have it like that than when we were trying to win every game 1-0 and usually failing.
We have 6 wins under the belt in 2008 now and have only lost one of the last 7 games. At last we have promotion form. Unlike WBA who have only won 4 of their last 13 league games.
With 4 of our last 5 games at home it could be a good end to the season after all.
Nathan Lloyd Is There Any Chance You Could Find Out Or Get Someone To Findout If All The Wolves Players Have Fell Out With Freddy Or Some Kind Of Bust Up Because The Other Night When Neil Collins Scored Freddy Went Over To Congratulate Him And Neil Collins Kind Of Shuved Him As If To Say Go Away I Dont Like You And Saterday All The Wolves Players Went Over To Ebanks-Blake To Congratulate Him Scoring The Penalty But Freddy Went And Picked Up The Ball And Walked To Halfway Line On His Own And When Keogh Scored .. Freddy Was The Last Person Keogh Went To Congratulate To Say Thanks For Passing And Not Shooting !! Is There Any Chance You Could Findout ?? BIG WOLF
Big Wolf
Odd style of writing fella.
46. Evidently there is a problem. He could have a bad attitude, a big ego, feelings of bitterness
towards McCarthey. Who knows? One thing is for sure. Small sections of the Molineux crowd aren’t doing
him any favours by chanting his name every week.
Happy_Baggie
A smash of glass and a rumble of boots
An electric train and a ripped up ‘phone booth
Paint splattered walls and the cry of a tomcat
Lights going out and a kick in the balls
That’s Entertainment!
Great record.
Unfortunately Big Wolf, I’m just a punter like yourself, I don’t have any direct contact with the club, so I can’t find out why Freddy is in the doghouse!
John #13 you obviously know nothing about football. I suppose you are one of the thousands who think MM is the way forward all he is and was is a big horrible bully type footballer/manager. Roy Keane was exactly right to walk out on im I have read Keanes book and what he says about MM and his ethics of football management could be wrote on the back of a stamp. We need a complete clearout of players and staff and start with MM/ and his staff and JM .Then this club will move forward . Too many people protecting each others jobs . Act now Mr Morgan and save face with the fans .
Please can someone tell me why fellow wolves fans love to slate the team off day in day out!!!
Go to the match and SUPPORT them people stop, whinging and whining your pathetic….. Come on the WOLVES
Why do people insist on saying that we should play Keogh just behind Freddy and SEB?!? The midfield would be so weak. He was muscled off the ball for QPR’s 3rd goal.
Okay, in a 4-5-1 formation Keogh is ideal as an attacking midfielder, as has been the case in a recent victories away from home, but not in a 4-4-2. Perhaps, as some have said, that he should be used on the right, but moving inside to support the attack creating a sort of 4-3-1-2 formation.
Having said that, though, Gray and Jarvis have been doing well, so who would you drop?
I’d love to see Freddy in the starting XI but we’ve been banging goals in regularly since SEB joined, and Keogh is now on 10 goals so do we need to change things? I would say only in defence.
Comment 25
If I am a moron, what does that make you. Is that the level of intelligence you got by saying to people who may not agree with you “a moron”
#50 U2 Wolf why do I know nothing about football. I have not said MM is the way forward I have said that right at this moment in time it would be wrong to get rid of him particularly as we are at the business end of the season. To do that IMO would only cause more miscontent than there already is. So you have read a book and because Roy Keane dislikes MM’s style that makes him an authority does it. No I do think so it is one mans opinion (albeit a top player in his day there is no denying). You are talking tripe along with your other friends (comments #3 and #4) we do not need a complete clear out of players at all the basis of the side is young. I would agree that some players need to go no question because they really dn’t make the grade but a complete clear out thats bull. I disagree completely with you about Jez Moxey, that man has kept us from debt by being careful but know doubt you would like to see us in a bad financial position as well would you. Don’t say I know nothing about football, you are just on the MM and JM hater bandwagon like many other negs maybe you take the time to explain as to why and substantiate your answer.
U2 (50)……My Mole in high places informed me 6pm Saturday that The Mick will still be manager for next season–at least!!!!!
Pass me a razor blade quick.
Just listened to Chelsea at home to Arsenal. Chelsea won 2-1 to go 2nd in the Premier League, maintaining their 70+ games unbeaten home run.
At 1-0 down Chelsea made 2 substitutions…. get this…to a crescendo of YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING from the Chelsea fans, who were also chanting for Jose Mourinho! Chelsea equalised 3 minutes after the substitutions, going on to win.
We are delighted win a home draw cause finally we’ve had some entertainment!
Tell me again who won the ‘fickle whiners’ award!
Simon :)
52 - not at all, people can have there say and disagree with me as long as they back it up with a sensible post. Your post that it was good to boo or chant Freddy at Keogh is not good at all. Whether it was aimed at Keogh or MM is up for debate, but do you think Keogh - “at the time”, when certain people were shouting freddie right after he scuffed a chance, do you think he thought your chants were directed at him or MM???????
There are some comments above that are a load of utter tripe, I am thinking mainly of Anti-Blog, Mr Smug, Magic Mad Merlin and U2 Wolf.
As for the chants of Freddy, Freddy during the first half. They were ridiculous no managers will make a change in the first half of the game when there team are only one goal down. As for the chants not being directed at Keogh, well they were sung right after he missed a one-on-one. Well of course they were directed at Mick it was the South Bank saying to Mick get Keogh off and Eastwood on instead of him.
If that is supposed to help Keogh’s performance than I am a greater crested Newt.
53
55. All of the signals coming from the Board have been those of stability and continuity. I would
be very surprised if MM didn’t stay for at least another season, particularly given the run of results
they have had recently.
16) QPR
So a change of manager actually did you good. hmmm.
Mick Out !!
Name calling, abit shallow…. dont you think….
Going back to my point, the freddy chants were directed at MM, fans reminding MM there is a goal scorer “up for debate” on the bench.
If AK thinks it was directed at him, then he did well he scored twice!
Can not understand chants for Freddie,he has had chances and has not done alot with them.Robbie Keane started on the bench, took his chances and look what he has done. MM has made alot of shrewd buys, the next year or two will show how good. Lets show what supporting a team means and get behind the Wolves regardless of whos playing,if we do who knows where will finish come the end of the season. Acka
Rubbish 54,Moxey hasnt kept us from debt,,its the twenty odd thousand who pay their money every week, tickets, programs ,pies, pints etc,its easy when you have that ammount of houskeeping money every week.We got to the premiership but Moxy gave us nothing and we came straight back to the safe haven,he didnt want Souness,he would have ruffled a few feathers..We got Mr Morgan, now he seems a real firebrand full of pasion and expectations with 30 million to invest, but not in new players,Mr Moxy will have it for his houskeeping along with all the money we spend every week,so people like you 54 can pat him on the back,,I wonder iff Mr Moxy would be such a good houskeeper iff he only had 10,000 fans every week.
#64 another clown who hasn’t got a clue. If the likes of Mr Moxey hadn’t been careful with what we had/have then we would be in a whole heap of debt. Thats what you want is it…pedro you are a muppet. Football is a business, it is highly likely that when we went up the Hayward family wanted some of their money back so I wouldn’t be surprised if thats where the money went. The books have to balanced and I for one would rather have a team with no financial worries than suffer like the Cardiff city’s or Leeds Uniteds of this world where it has been spend spend spend and with what outcome….recievership. Think about what you are writing before coming on here and making yourself look like an idiot. Oh and for the record I am not patting Mr Moxey on the back I am just glad we have someone who takes time over what gets spent rather than rushing into things and getting into financial difficulty.
Comment 65 I disagree,
One of the major flaws of THAT premiership season was the slowness in the transfer market. MOXEY gives himself a holiday rather than getting on the blower to sort out transfers. Started to do that and it was too late. Unprofessional and shocking in my opinion. I just hope that Morgan has got someone within his empire to takeover from Moxey and get things done quickly and efficiently. I agree Haywards did want their money back and I dont begrudge Sir Jack 1 bit for all the good he has done for the club, I just wished that one season we tried to compete abit more, Spending £5M on players was chicken feed and we were always going to struggle to compete. Water under the bridge. I personally think overall Moxey has done a “ok” job, transfer dealing he has been shrewd HOWEVER his PR and persona with wolves fans has deteriated over the last 3-4 years, Pie n Pint-gate being the recent one.
I still would like to see the back of him.
The South Bank have been an absolute disgrace this season! They have shown themselves to be the most disloyal and fickle fans in the ground.
The Freddy Freddy chants are crazy since he has done nothing to command any adulation.
What summed it for me on Saturday was when Keogh scored the equalizer and I looked across at the South Bank and there was about a quarter of them left in the ground.
Apologies to tne minority of decent fans in the South Bank who I am sure are embarrassed by the moronic chants of those around them.
I know my response to the ‘South Bank, South Bank…’ chant on Saturday in the 95th minute was “gone home”!
Who are you calling a muppet (67) football may be a buisiness, but it should also be entertaining, iff the football served up is rubbish, the muppets stay at home on a Saturday afternoon and then thers no need to ballance any books. You cant get it in your condescending head, iff with our support the books cant be ballanced, how do clubs with a fraction of our support survive.Sometimes in life you have to take the odd chance,,maybe iff after Sir Jacks investment helped get us up,iff we had took a few risks we might be still there. And one last thought,,how many Cardiff fans do you think will be realy suffering on April 5th,,I bet they would much rather have your ballanced books xxx Kermitt.
the accounts published are for the last trading year, but not sure if they include the sale of lescott to everton if they do and we had not sold him how much debt would we have been in ?
Sell Freddy, sell all of our jewels.
MICK OUT!
eastwood is great keogh is poor end ov
