New full back George Elokobi reckons he is on course to seal his first team spot as Wolves promotion charge reaches crunch point.
The Cameroon-born defender is proving a growing hit with Wolves fans who have taken to his powerful defending and exciting crossing ability.
His emergence since being signed from Colchester in January as another recruit for the future has given manager Mick McCarthy an unexpected bonus in Michael Gray’s impressive form in an advanced role on what had been a problem left flank for the team.
And the ambitious Elokobi says: “First and foremost I’m a defender, that’s the side of the game I have to do first because that’s why I’m there.
“Anything that comes after that is a bonus and if I’m in a position where I can get some crosses into the box that’s fantastic.
“It’s credit to the other players as well because I think there’s a good understanding between Micky Gray and myself and Matt Jarvis and myself.
“It was always going to take time for me to gel with everyone in the squad but I think I am getting there.
“I’m still learning and am going to make mistakes but I just have to make sure I eradicate those and improve.”
Elokobi relished his first real taste of a pumped-up Molineux during Saturday’s six-goal thriller against QPR and hopes the up-turn in goal scoring will continue.
“The way we got that third equaliser says a lot about our character as a team and as a club and the fans really backed us as well which was brilliant,” he added.
” We need goals coming from everywhere in the team because we can’t rely on two players.
“Everyone needs to chip in and Neill got the winner on the Tuesday night which was great.
“We’d like more clean sheets but sometimes you get tough decisions which go against you and make that impossible. It’s how you respond which is important.”

He’s had a great start!
He is powerful, but not at all clumsy.
The defence is looking pretty good at the moment, though our CBs make a few mistakes.
Keep it up Big George Mk2.
He’s an hoofer, not what we should be looking for at all.
Sorry
1……what? He is useless, can’t make one single pass. Micky Gray left back, Jarvis Left keogh right, seb and eastwood up top. This guy is a poor mans Mo Camara.
A promising start but last week MM was moaning about the fans not chanting the players names but how can you make songs up when you struggle to pronounce their names.Oh for the good old days of King John,The Doog,Waggy etc.
Loyal Cannock - I agree entirely about Elokobi. He has a huge amount of potential.
The defence as a whole though still makes too many mistakes and needs to improve.
He has time on his side But do us fans have time
2,3 - very harsh guys, the lad has hardly had time to settle into the team,if you look at results since he arrived they are not too bad, granted there was plenty of ‘hoofing’ going on in the Southampton game, but then all of the back 4 were doing it, trying to hit Kev Kyle with an early ball.
Come on Gents let all get behind the team from now til the end of the season, I disagree with alot of the team selections & management decisions this season, but lets just get on with it & we may just get what we all want - promotion to the big league.
UP THE WOLVES !!!!!!!!!!
3. How’s he useless?
He battles hard and is just the type of player we’ve been crying out for.
Some of you lot baffle me…
I for want want Elokobi to succeed I really do, as all wolves players including Kevin Kyle but the amount of time he gives the ball away is beginning to become a liability. He is big, strong etc but lacks footballing ability in my opinion. He does add pace to the back but on Saturday against QPR the amount of times he gave the ball away………
Maybe he would be better as a centre half?
How Is He Useless .. He Reminds Me Of The Old Kevin Muscat Days .. And All The Wolves Fans Must Remember Him .. Put It This Way He Aint No Pushover .. To Me He Seems To Get Better And Better Each Game !! Got A Snip With This One I Think !!
You WW fans are not of this world, do you really think that any of your players would make it
in the Prem, to be honest, you have sold better players than you have,
Mad Mick will be with you for many years yet,his job is not finished until he gets you in
Division 1, then I think your team could make the Playoffs.
Just wait till you have S Ward back.
In MM we trust and good old Jez.
gray shouldnt be left back as he is attacking minded like l.naylor was and often left that side
vulenerable, gray/d.jones perfect for the left wing role and gray is doing terrific there
as for elokobi
half decent start, he does make one to poor passes reminds me off bigger version of mo camara
give him time doubters, everyone said micky gray was rubbish 3games in
Some of you lot are as thick as two planks.
He’s huge, quick and doesn’t jump out of a tackle.
He aint afraid to get his legs broke in a 50/50 unlike some others in our team, mentioning no names, Henry.
He’s been at the club what, 3 months? And your getting on his back already?
Idiots. Simply idiots.
I dont know how anyone could be critical about his perfromance on saturday. He put some fantastic balls into the box in the second half that a centre forward with any anticipation would have finished off. Foley seems to be well liked but what does he offer attacking wise?? and his sloppy play cost us the first goal on saturday.
I watched the game with a handful of neutrals who all agreed that he was our best player on the day and a source of quality delivery into the box.
Pace power and end product was what i saw on saturday but i suppose that still isnt good enough for some…..i know the game is all about opinions but the Freddy chanting situation really shows the mentality of a section of fans in the south bank….brain dead!

Are you mad or just bored???
Coment on your own lot & stop trying to wind people up, lets see if you have still got plenty to say when Pompey put you out of the cup & you come over to our place & get a good hiding, its coming to the business end of the season & we appear to hitting some form unlike your good selves who appear to be bottling again for third season running………………..
I also agree with the Foley comment. He gave away the ball as much as Keogh and Elokobi did, yet he doesn’t get any criticism at all. Actually, i’ve never seen Foley put in a cross unlike Elokobi?
elokobi = Mr T
no messing around at the back ,
few mistakes tht wer expected,
but what a step up his made,
makes some exciting runs and puts some good crosses into the box,
hopefully a star in the making, imho improved out team alot!
11 Real funny Idiot.
So the likes of Bristol and Stoke are any better than Wolves? Doubt it…
17.
Actually the table proves that they are, sadly.
16.Sounds like a new song.To the tune of Steve Bull’s a tatter?
3) Are you Nathan Lloyd in disguise?
Gray left back? Everytime he comes up against a pacey winger he’ll get skinned.. at least Elokobi can keep up with them.
He is not useless. Admittedly a bit raw but he is no more a liability at the back than any of the other defenders.
He will get better with more games. Anyway with Jones back at Northampton what other choices do we have?
Don’t say Mr Dependable ie. Collins - crucial goals but the weakest link at the back!
16. What happens when we get into Europe. He won’t be able to fly. We need cover.
big george good player .wba watch out ,THE WOLVES ARE COMING
i loyal, how do you know, whenever they play your always on here posting ,armchair fan boing boing
Grace 14 - its not in my nature to question a lady - but do you really think scraping a draw at home to QPR is “hitting some form” ??
You were lucky to get a point against a lower team. Now I can agree that our results have not been fantastic lately - but thats because I can see BOTH sides of the coin.
If you think getting a draw at home to QPR is setting you up for an assault on the playoffs then you really are easily pleased.
As for us possibly losing to Pompy - well maybe we will - but you gotta be in it to win it aint ya ??
24.Happy Baggie after this season change your name to unhappy baggie - semi final cup exit and another play off defeat…losing at home to Leicester is the start of another anti climax season.I hope you do go up then i won’t have to put up with Mowbray leaning against the dug out lookin like a sulking schoolboy in detention !!
Stevo - yeah there is soooo much to be unhappy about for us albion fans - there is being 5 points off top with 2 games in hand, there is a FA Cup semi at wembley, then we are just short of 100 goals agin this season, there is the fantastic football we have benn watching all season - yep life sucks… thanks for pointing it out to me.
If only we could be like wolves where (apparently) your best game so far was drawing 3-3 with QPR - how spoilt you must be.
p.s - get used to seeing Mowbray every week next season on MOTD - oh to have Mick McCarthy instead.
Brass neck don’t cover it does it.
Happy boggie you may be in the position you say you are but at the end of the day your still just an albion fan
26.soon to be un Happy Baggie
nobody said it was the best result though they just said it was the best game.
there is a difference just because you haven’t won a game doesn’t mean it cant be the best game.
you can have a great game and still lose.
if you understand football then you should understand this.
if you do go up you will be on match of the day last getting a pasting.
you might even sell a few more tickets who knows.
yo-yo team, and the trouble with yo-yo’s is eventually the string breaks and then they stay down.
never mind perhaps you could sell out to the local butcher or someone because nobody else wants the crappy little club.
Happy Baggie- in case it escapes your notice QPR are no mugs and made a load of signings in January. Where do you get that we were lucky from?
Yes your strikeforce is prolific but your defence is horrific!
Our next home game is you. Prepare for a proper atmosphere unlike what was at the Hawthorns this season.
We have 2 tricky away games but are good enough and lets see how good you are?
27 - rather an albion fan than a thick prat like you any day… I bet you are so thick even your mates notice.
I fact I’d rather be a wolves fan than you !
Sorry but HB is right. They have every chance of doing a fantastic double this season and they deserve credit, plus they score goals for fun. It hurts, it really hurts because they have a better team and a better Manager, in every other aspect, history, fans, ground etc we put them in the shade. I keep reading about disloyal fans who dare speak out and demands for us to get fully behing a poor team. Well we are 100% behind any Wolves team but come on! We are seeing decades of failure and frustration come to the surface here. I am 54 years old and have no memory of not being a Wolves fan, lots of people on here are my age and we have the right we vent. This is not about this season alone, it is the culmination of years of failure to see the potential of our great club realised. And to be called a nugget by an arrogant Yorkshire mouth who has actually won nothing as a Manager is galling.
I wish WBA well and hope their success motivates Mr. Morgan to wake up and smell the bovril.
ev123..im glad we were at the same game saturday .. i wish some of these half wits had noticed those wicked swerving balls he was spraying around . i thought he looked supurb ,a real asset . most of our attacking play second half was generated by him .
24 what happened when you played leicester the other week.and they are below Q.P.R.
Actually, most of the time he’s given the ball away it’s been because he hasn’t read the movement of his team-mates, and that’s something that will just get better as he plays with them more, and learns how they play. Give him time - he’s got all the attributes, and could be great.
STILL LEARNING, NEEDS A CLOSE OUTLET TO TAKE THE BALLFROM HIM AND CREATE FROM MIDFIELD. HOW ABOUT GIVING ROSA A RUN OUT? HE MAY BE THE PLAYER TO BAG US A GOAL OR TWO FROM MIDFIELD. THOUGHT HENRY PERFORMED WELL AS FULL BACK AND HE HAS PACE. JAMIE LANYON HOLIDAY PARK CORNWALL
Happy Baggie
No mate, but I do see losing 1 in the last 8 as improved form, very much so, what is your record over the last 8 games??
As I said no coinsidence we are at the sharp end of the season, as for approaching 100 goals is that scoring or conceding???
And you also got the sex wrong!!
I also note that as your form has dipped you have been less pragmatic on our site, could that be like your team a sign of nerves??
Boggy 1,how many of your lot would ‘make it’ then? You lot are so arrogant and i cannot wait to see you tearful tesco bags making your way home from Wembley after another season of nearly achieving something.I could understand it if you were murdering the league and in the FA Cup final, the wheels could still come off yet!
yes ww are really going for it now, with a draw against QPR,
come on MM we trust in you and good old Jez, and you morans thought Morgan was
going to spend, he already spent all his money, buying you for £10.00.
S. Ward for Chelsea Ha Ha
And proud of it!!!!
This is an article about Elokobi so why may I ask are you and a select other few lads from Sandwell constantly trying to give your oh so enlightening advice on where Albion are and Wolves are not. Do us all a favour and do one. Get back to reading about the importance of staying focused on the league ahead of your Pompey meeting….Because you’ll need to be focused as if you want my prediction you’ll fluff both league and Cup due to the Albion camp and fans not truelly being realistic. You really do believe you are the able to cope with both…hmmmmm you will see!
He is not a good passer period. He is strong and quick but that does not make him a good player, trying hard is not enough. He will probably become a decent player at this level, if we went up he would struggle because keeping the ball is paramount. So is he really the player we need to invest in we already have Little as back up. We desperately need CBs Leon Cort should have been snapped up.
Methinks with some of you ”fanatical lot” he would be deemed useless if we were top of the lot !!!!!! ….true ?????
NATHAN 3.this man has pace to burn and is powerfu,ok his distribution isn’t perfect yet but first and foremost he is a defender which as much as i like micky gray he is not, way too slow and more effective going forward can still turn a trick or two and has great delivery/crosses but we need pace at the back and big george 2 has that and is 100% comitted.
yeh happy boggie have you been watching your team lately?or have you been stuck on your p.c for too long stop deluding yourself ,how many league games have you won lately? about 2 out of the last eight is it? oh yes promotion certainties and what a performance against charlton.
happy boggie. Uv had an amazin season and ur still onli points above us after the disaster which is our season. If we had a decent manager. wed walk this league and u probly noit
12 well said.
sometimes i despair at the utter c*** written. do they watch football at all or are they just proffessional whingers/ Elokobi played really well on Saturday, maybe not yet the finished article but some great runs upfield and timely crosses. Anyone for a dose of positivity? Nope, just as I thought !
from what i have seen george you have the potential, the bottle and the strength
best thing is micky g is pushing you in other areas
maybe not the pace or eloquence of mo camara but something with some quality but different
P.S.
11
neither wolves or sandwell are premier yet
If i were a championship striker I would be waiting for the day i got to have a go at Breen and Craddock and D Ward at CB. If the team had 4 Elokobi in the backline however i think it would be a different story. Defenders sont need grace. look at Sol Campbell when he was in his early 20’s. He couldn’t pass the ball 20 yards.
I can’t believe wolves fans are having a pop at him!!!
I think he has settled in well! his was excelent on saturday!
He is young, fast and has lots of time to learn AND i don’t think many opposing players will like playing against him…
NO.9 Giving the ball away against QPR must go to Karl Henry
Don’t think he’d be up to much in the prem but then of course we’re not in the prem. He’s just what we need to get us there though as prem players struggle in this division. Ask Charlton and the host of other clubs that have come down with premiership squads and big reputations.
In the words of Corporal Jones “they just don’t like it up em”
