Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has thanked the fans for inspiring Andy Keogh to a point-saving performance against QPR.
The former Scunthorpe hitman had failed to take advantage of his first clear goalscoring opportunity after half an hour when he dragged his shot wide, but sections of the Molineux faithful rallied round Keogh by chanting his name.
And McCarthy believes that was vital in lifting the striker’s spirits, as he went on to grab a double, which allied by Sylvan Ebanks Blake’s penalty, earned a late point for Wolves.
“I want to praise the positive action of the supporters who realised what was happening and straight away started singing for Andy,” McCarthy said.
“Look how well it helped him to play.”
Some Wolves supporters used Keogh’s miss to launch calls for Freddy Eastwood to be brought into the action in his place, which McCarthy believes embarrassed the Welsh striker, however they were countered by positive chants of Keogh’s name.
“They were not having a go at Keogh direct but we all know what the ‘Freddy’ chants meant - get Keogh off and Freddy on,” McCarthy said.
“The lads were all talking about it afterwards and Freddy was embarrassed by it - it’s insulting to Keogh.
“But what I loved was the fans who cheered Keogh.
“What a difference it made to the player because that sort of thing does affect you.”
The manager also believes that Wolves deserved more from a game that had seen them produce one of their best performances of the season.
“We got less than we deserved,” McCarthy said.
“If we’d lost it would have been a travesty because if we’ve ever played better than that I’d like to see the DVD.”
McCarthy was less than impressed though with the two penalty decisions in the match.
“I was wondering though - if to spice up games we can give penalties when they are not penalties?” he said.
“Neither should have been given and our players showed real depth of character in adversity to keep going.
“Two points a game is a good tally and that point this afternoon might prove to be the most valuable point all season.”
Wolves suffered an injury blow during the match when defender Rob Edwards damaged his ankle ligaments and the club are awaiting news on how long he will be out of action.

The chanting was wrong - however from what I heard it was aimed more at MM’s selection as opposed to any individual player (s).Does MM not see this !
Getting behind the team is important as is getting behind individual players. I say CONGRATULATIONS on a great performance, but what MM and the players have got to realise that we the supporters live and breath WW, and we have every right to be dissapointed especially with what we have been dished up this season. Let us hope that the performance we saw against QPR will continue to the end of the season and into the play off’s, and I can guarantee you that every fan will be behind WW all the way. All we want lads, is you to do the best you can for the supporters, we can ask no more, keep it going.
1 - there’s no excuse for it and this attitude of some of the supporters is killing the club. Keogh scored 2 on Sat yet people will ignore this and still ask for Eastwood to come on. Keogh and Ebanks are our top scorers for goodness sake!
This is what we did last year, pile in and batter the opposition goal, never give up hope. If you play like you really want it then you can get something out of any game. I thought the lads showed great teamwork and courage and after all the chopping and changing this year we look like we have gelled as a team. Yes of course it’s work in progress but at last we can take pride in the lads. C’mon! Lets get behind the lads and Mick now and show what we are made of.

1, it wasn’t aimed at MM, it was just that some ppl think Mr Eastwood is the best thing since sliced bread. This man works his socks off every game and to have those chants against him cos he scuffed a chance is remarkable. It all comes from the South Bank fans who sit in the wing and have to swap for away fans sometimes. We were all talking bout them during the game on Saturday. They always like it. I sit in the section of the South Bank wolfie2468 is talking about and to be honest there is a bit of a split between fans who boo, chant for Freddy, etc and those who just want to get behind the team. It was embarassing to hear people chanting for Freddy after Keogh missed that chance - he showed great charachter to keep going and pop up with two goals. I agree that we pay our money and deserve to have an opinion, but can people not wait until the end of the game rather than having a go at players during the game, which must knock their confidence. We actually have a team of players who actually care for the first time in a long time, so let’s get behind them and Super Mick like we did last year.

IMO Mick seems to shy away from what is actually going on here. As previously said above MM dropped AK for KK, I also think that Tuesday AK had a terrible game against Scunny and Eastwood actually played well for the 30 mins that he came on, too not start Eastwood on Saturday and stick with AK who had a shocking for 25 mins this stays in peoples minds hence the chanting. Forget AK how does Karl Henry keep his place in the team.

Big Wolf, AND YOUR HOLDING MIDFIELDER IS???????????????? WE could start a striker who never misses, but somehow scored only 11 goals in the Championship in 41 games last season. Five of those were penalties, meaning 6 goals in 41 games in open play, ONE GOAL EVERY SEVEN GAMES. I could do that, and I’m 57 years old. This season he has had 11 full games, and about 13 games where he has had at least a half hour. His tally? 3 league goals. He is consistent at least. Keogh has 15 goals in his 50 league appearances. Maths must not be my strong point, because I see Keogh with a better strike rate, Ebanks-Blake with a better strike rate, Elliott with a better strike rate, and Edwards with a better strike rate. I am absolutely sick of these Freddy Huggers saying he has been badly treated. Was he badly treated at Southend? He managed 6 outfield goals in 41 games in a side that was built around him. Take off your Freddy tinted glasses, and see reality. He is not all you think he is. David Fairclough scored week after week for Liverpool from the bench. It didn’t matter whether he had five minutes or fifty. he gave it all, and carried on scoring.

Must say the performance was upbeat.Qpr had three shots on target all game ( they would be top six if same all season ). Elokobi was immence, he and SEB were both towers of strength and CAPTAINS in all but armband. Whereas Foley has got the jitters ( 1st goal ) and Henry ( innept ).
Chant your hearts out, unlikely we can make it, but 3 pts at Charlton would give us a 50/50 chance. Need 2 youngish/fast centre halves next season. Morgan must invest. If we get too the Albion game 1pt behind with a game in hand, 4 home games and only 1 away. The dream is still alive.

If you play Freddie, kepgh and Seb together there are two options. Either Keogh plays wide or Freddie is the one to play deeper. He’s scored long range goals in the past and, as we know, hasn’t shown himself to be a penalty box player up to now…
as much as it pains me to say but mm did say at the begining that he was given a three year plan when he took over so as much as i would love to see us promoted this term if it does not happen we will have mm at the helm for another season so we must get behind him and the team he picks because he will be here along with us next season prem or not and lets face it if we did get promoted would this team do any better than derby without some serious investment i love the wolves and will be there next season along with most of you lot so lets just hope for the best and pray that mr kightly gets back in time this season cos i do believe if he had been fit we would maybe just maybe have been sitting pretty at the top of this division losing him when we did has been the difference the gap fom the top to where we are now is not that big just a shame kights was not around to have helped any way see you all at the mol soon

42,43,44,46, I am not blind to MM’s faults. (as you seem to be with Eastwood.) McCarthy has made errors this year, and I am totally aware of them. Neither am I an armchair fan. (Try and find a post on here or 606 websites when a game is on.) I am just sick and fed up of “Freddy this” and Freddy that.” He has obvious talent,and I am not anti-Eastwood, but I just don’t see where the hero-worship comes in for him. He is bone idle, a whinger and is not a team player. It makes me laugh when people say, “He hasn’t been given a chance. He has started ten league games, and has at least fifteen games when he has had 30 minutes or more. His return? 3 league goals. That is not the next Bully. That is not a 20 goals a season man. He played last Tuesday to a good standard, and changed the game. One swallow doesn’t make a summer, and it may be that MM wanted to see if he could do it two in a row. He did okay on Saturday, but he made one telling pass, from which Keogh scored. Hed did not set Molineux alight for me, but then I don’t have prescription glasses that only focus on him. Ebanks-Blake is a far better striker for me, and will be a regular twenty-a-season man. There is a place for Eastwood if he works harder, as he did on Tuesday last. Keogh was a better option though, as he is more consistent.

Just to put the record straight I am 59 been a Wolves fan since my first match at 7 a season ticket hlder for 16 years and I was on the Wolves books at 15 and played with Peter Broadbent who was a fabulous player,so I have a reasonable knowledge of the game
It is quite obvious that some supporters dont care about Wolves. They only care about Freddy Eastwood, and week in week out telling false stories about how little Eastwood have played during the season. These supporters have somehow managed to convince a lot of other supporters that this stories actually are true, and these supporters are stupid enough to stand behind the Eastwood-liars when they start to chant “Freddy”. It is so obvious these chants are directly against certain players in the Wolves team and it doesnt help if a lot of you trying to explain your part of it. You are mislead by a group of evil fans and please dont get behind them in the stands! Get behind the team instead of getting behind Eastwood. No players is bigger than the club!
