Wolves boss delight with players

mick2.jpgWolves boss Mick McCarthy admitted he was delighted with the way his play-off chasers battled back to earn a 3-3 draw against QPR at Molineux.

Andy Keogh’s second goal salvaged a point at the death and denied a Rangers outfit who had led three times.

Akos Buzsaky fired Rangers ahead on 27 minutes but Keogh levelled with his first goal on the stroke of half-time.

Dexter Blackstock and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake converted penalties before Mikele Leigertwood fired Rangers 3-2 ahead only for Keogh to haul Wolves level for a third time.

“We got less than we deserved because we should have won the game,” said McCarthy.

“In a strange way the penalties helped the occasion because they got the atmosphere raised even more and I think it was a terrific match for the customer.

“I don’t remember when we have played as well as that. That’s as good as we have been. We had our chances and we certainly deserved to get level.

“That might well turn out to be the most valuable point we have got all season

“We dominated the game and feel we should have had all three points – but the fact is it could have been nothing.”

McCarthy stressed the penalty that gave Rangers a 2-1 lead should not have been awarded and neither should the one that levelled the scores at 2-2.

“I’ve been listening all week to the debate about respect and I was doing my level best out there to let things go,” he said.

“Our penalty should never have been given, but it levelled things off. We kept on fighting and my players showed great character to make it 3-3.

“If we keep playing like that we’ve every chance.

“If we’d lost it would have been a travesty because if we have ever played better than that I’d like to see the DVD.

“Two points a game is a good tally and that point this afternoon might prove to be the most valuable point all season.”

He was delighted with so many performances but the return to form of Seyi Olofinjana is particularly encouraging for McCarthy.

The Nigerian international’s low-key contribution to date has been one of the missing ingredients which have clearly hampered Wolves.

“You know in order to win championships and promotions you have to have all your components working during the season,” said McCarthy.

“We haven’t had Kightly and Jarvis on the same pitch together, for example. And we haven’t had Seyi not going to the African Championships. His performance here was excellent.”

Rangers manager Luigi De Canio said: “It’s a bit sour to come away from Molineux having scored three goals and not won the match.

“Two of the Wolves goals were in injury time at the end of each half and that’s something I am not too happy about. I don’t know where the referee got those extra minutes at the end of the match.

“We had some good chances but we wasted them. But I think we should concentrate on the sporting aspect of this game and not the mistakes – it was very entertaining for the spectators and that is what we all want.”

If you score 3 goals at home you expect to win we have made far too many mistakes in defence all season a draw was not a good result.

Big Wolf - not enough protection for the poor defence in that line up. A defence may I add that MM has had plenty of time to sort out but chosen to ignore. Despite him being excellent recently, you would have to sacrifice Gray for Potter and play Keogh out wide.

De Canio, I’ll tell where the extra minutes came from in the 2nd half. 3 Substitutions, 4 goals and the penalties took two minutes each to take at least. In my opinion that warrants 7 mins stoppage time let alone 5, who do you think you are…Ferguson?

BAZZA…Explain why you would have to sacrifice Gray for Potter and play Keogh out wide? Playing Potter for Gray in Midfield would be ludicrous and Keogh out wide? He’s a striker for gods sake, this might only work when we’re pushing for an equaliser at the end of the game like on Saturday but it would be mad to play him out there from the start when the wing is Jarvis’s role and Gray has much more running power than Potter down the wings. Anyway, Potter hates the wings. He’s openly admited that. You obviously don’t go to the games it seems

A point gained or two points lost.A positive note is that we scored three goals in a game.Haven’t done that that much this season.

It appears that no two fans would pick the same team, but theres plenty that get on micks back for his selections.
Everyone has their own thoughts on a starting eleven, just because the managers is different it doesnt make him an idiot.
Let me put it another way……..who do you think knows best?…you?…or the manager?

    I rest my case
    Gold n black forever

A 3-3 draw is the best that his team has played. What a confession of failure!
