Wolves ace rebukes “negative” fans

keoghceleb2.jpgStriker Andy Keogh today rebuked the Molineux fans who “like to be negative” in a fresh call for unity at Wolves.

Keogh reached 10 goals for the campaign with the two he added on Saturday in a thrilling 3-3 draw against QPR which was climaxed by his dramatic 95th minute equaliser.

But that followed another moment of Molineux conflict after a missed, first half chance by the Irishman triggered chants of “Freddy, Freddy” from some fans still upset that £1.5m signing Freddy Eastwood remains out of Mick McCarthy’s starting line-up.

It was swiftly followed by a renewed chorus of support for Keogh but the incident once more put into focus this season’s sometimes uneasy relationship between McCarthy’s team and sections of their fan base.

“We all know how great our home crowd can be and we saw it again when we were coming back and they were right with us,” said Keogh.

“The goal at the end was down to them getting behind us. We just need more of it because there are certain sections which like to be negative.

“Maybe that won’t change but if it did there could be a much better atmosphere.

“Any stick I get doesn’t bother me and you could say it’ happens because everyone is so keen for us to do well. But I don’t think it should be done to any players.

“There should be chants for the players that are out there on the pitch and when decisions are made to change things there should be chants for the players coming on.

“You don’t need negativity, none of us do. It can’t be a case of  if you miss a chance get someone else on or if a tackle is missed get another midfielder on.”

its not that people dont like keogh but eastwood has been outstanding in the last couple of games. i watched him carefully on saturday and i thought he looked like he could play premier league level . .. as a paying supporter want to see the best players possible playing for wolves and he is a very good player .

Happy 3, Stop being stupid my friend. You come on here and post decent comments half the time and it’s good to see what you write so don’t spoil it now. Anyway back to the matter in hand, It is a MINORITY. I just hope it’s not all of us being branded yet again. As soon as those idiots started chanting Freddie Freddie, We was on our feet chanting for the player who was ACTUALLY PLAYING. Keogh is a better all round player than Eastwood and with him and Ebanks-Blake together, Freddie is never going to get a look in anyway. But as I say, its only an opinion. Good luck Andy. C’MON THE WOLVES !!!!!!

happy - you are so sad. Keogh is class and he works well with e-b. If we keep playing like the QPR game we can still make it to the play-offs and the squad is still improving. KEEP POSITIVE IS RIGHT.

THE BEST WAY TO COMBAT CRITISISM IS TO PLAY BETTER AND HE DID THAT, WE ALL MUST PULL FOR EACH PLAYER THAT GETS A SHIRT, AFTER ALL IT IS A TEAM. WELL DONE ANDY AND FREDDIE BOTH DID A GOOD JOB. KEEP THE BALL OUT OF OUR NET AND GIVE THESE GUYS THE CHANCE TO GET US SOME MUCH NEEDED WINS.

I thought Keogh responded well to the dismay showed by the fans after the dreadful miss in the first half. I can see both points to the argument, he had a stinker against his old club the other night and the fans who chanted for Freddie just did not want to see another performance like that. On the other hand there are those who appreciate Keogh’s hard work rate over the time he has been here and just got behind him. I thought Freddie warranted a start after the last game, but we’ll never know what sort of impact he would have made from the start.
I still think Freddie does warrant a start at some point soon as he is a valued member of the squad.
    2. Doognwaggy… I don’t think he is having a pop at the fans just calling for more unity. Bothroyd was moaning that his mommy was upset that he was booed. Keogh is also making a point that the chants are heard down on the pitch and that the positive chants are encouraging for the players.

I’m no Mick fan for the way he has treated Freddie this season and the negative team selections chosen for best part of the season. Now he’s choosing a team with more shape and players for most part of it are in there preferred positions et voila. So if we don’t go up what will be most fresh in the fans and boardrooms mind are the latest performances and not the drabble that preceeded it

So Mick is not as Thick as we thought then, just safeguarding his job. Hmmmm

Happy_baggie…That is a bit low for you innit or are you an imposter?

  14. Caribbean Wolves said:

Agree with Andy. I might be negative on here but have never booed a Wolves player. Now have I ever booed a Wolves Manager? Hmmmmmmmm…????

i agree with him. i hate the moaners at the mol. mind you at least we care - look at the sadlers, according to their manager its like a morgue down there, even when they win. & as for crappy baggie - ive never been near a tesco blog or website as hits are counted - the more hits the better the site is rated. I wouldnt, on principle give anything to the supermarket team, not even a hit on a website. but i do remember their fans are as fickle as ours, but perhaps not cursed with our expectancy that come of being a major soccer team. i remember talbot hounded out, megsons critics because whilst he won he didnt play this wonderful checkout football we get sick of hearing about. robson, an ex player with that pathetic great escape trollop behind him, booed out of the place, even the gollem mowbray is critisised - play to win etc not football. Wolves fans, you surely arn’t all brain dead thickos - get behind the team, PLEASE. & hey, all you real footie fans, get ready for an explosion of manure across the country, as their plastic “fans” come out of the woodwork….. i bet loads of chelski/arshl/liverspot “fans” will be trading their tops in for the sad lucre of manure????

It was an absolute disgrace when the chants came out for Freddie.
The South Bank is unfortunately populated with single celled life forms, I was there when it happened and was part of the chorus that responded with chants of Keogh, Keogh which I thought was excellent on the part of us South Bank supporters who are there to support the team.

One chap even turned round and said it didn;t matter after Keogh had equalised for the first time as he knew nothing about it!!!! What a fool, this is exactly the type of fan who isn;t big enough to climb down and admit he was wrong, would he rather us have gone in at half time 1-0 down and have lost the game 3-2?

  27. Loyal-Cannock-Wolf said:

It was abit harsh to shout for Freddy, but Keogh looked lost for the most part of the game, But if this helps him to play on and score goals, I aint gonna moan.

It was only a few who chanted it, and theyre probably the moaners who constantly call for Mick to get the sack.

Come on Keogh, We believe in you mate!

P.s. Most people got nothing against Keogh but sometimes it seems like he’s Mick’s golden boy.

    3. Keogh ain’t rubbish, I’d like to see your team put in half the effort that he does every game, if he could finish, he’d be the best striker outside the Championship, never mind Bednar, Miller & Phillips, 2. Keogh ain’t having a pop at the fan’s, he’s only saying that the fan’s being more positive & cheering them is gonna help them more than us having a go at them all. I’ll feel sorry for the teams we come up against if he starts to find the net frequently, C’mon Andy, keep it up and shut the negative fan’s right up!! Wolves Until I Die!!!

  32. StevieSheff said:

Whats this clown on about? OK he scored two goals, what about the other 5 good chances he had and missed? and what about the tackle he bottled out of in midfield that led directly to their 3rg goal? My message to Keogh is “son, you just ain’t good enough”. He’s lightweight, can’t control or trap a ball, distribution is shocking and to top it all as a striker his goals to chances ratio is dire. His workrate is second to none but charging all over the pitch is no substitute for quality on the ball and this kid just ain’t got it.

  33. Greg Cooper said:

Too right Andy.. we all know it’s the vast minority acting up - shame they make their voices heard so well!! Some fans seem so blinkered into thinking that Freddy is the answer that they will shout for him no matter what - when Frdddy himself gets embarrassed by it then you know things are bad!! Keogh was getting praise earlier in the season for his work-rate, but it was commonly acknowledged that his lack of goals was a slight concern. Now he’s started scoring yet gets criticised for missing a chance.. can’t get my head round it.

  34. Roz Wolves said:

HB says ” even your own players HATE you ”

Happy, Why do you have to use suchinciting words? Why cant you say “even your own players Dislike you” or even “your own players do not like the negativity aimed at them by the fans”

For someone that goes on about Wolves fans venting their “hate and bile”. you seem to generate most of it on yourself with the inciting words you use.

You are a clever guy. I know this because I read your post’s, and they all come from a football knowledgable brain. Please mate, dont sink to depths, stay the true football fan. Leave the thuggary to the idiots

  37. Tipton Wolf said:

Might i just say Andy i dont think the fans were getting at you in any way what so ever. Their frustration is aimed at the manager 4 leaving FREDDY on the bench week in week out. The fans aint shoutin 4 FREDDY every week 4 nowt! They no he just needs a run in the team cause he is easily as good as anyone on the wolves books. MM 4 some reason is bein very stubbon! He hates the fact the fans love FREDDY more than HIM!!!!!!!!!!!

if fans continue to chant his name when he is on the bench then Mick will drop Freddy altogether. Think on!

  39. Wolves Faithful said:

Doognwaggy - by the looks of it you are one of these “negtive” fans in the crowd, he isn’t having a pop at wolves fans, hes just stating the obvious, if things aren’t going well your quick enough to slate the players, why not shut your mouth and get behind the players instead of putting them down, look how well they played last season when we “were” behind them! like these chants for freddy, the only reason he must not be playin is because of whats happenin behind the scenes, maybe he has been a bit mis treated but is that his own self doing? i admit the last two games hes played he has played well, but if he does and has done that in training and in the games he has played perhaps he wouldnt be sitting on the bench?! and for bothroyd, on his day hes the most talented striker at the club, he is lazy yes, but every footballer ain’t gonna play outta of his skin every week!

  40. E11 Wolf said:

Come on happy…We expect better than that from you.
Unfortunately the Molineux ‘boo boys’ are intent on keeping us in the championship. We have a lot of home games and we need everyone to support the team verbally. The players should feel that their own fans are on their side all the time. Most are and the fact that we came back three times against a team that has been playing really well recently is a credit to the team and to the fans who were really encouraging. Those who boo the wolves players are making life difficult for everyone so if you are a boo boy then SHOVE OFF.You are entitled to your opinion but that doesn’t mean other fans or the players should be subjected to it.

By the way did you notice the misses by some premiership players over the weekend. Rooney for example. Did you hear Man U fans calling for his substitution?

keogh is honest, his work rate is that of two players, and he is an asset to the team everytime he plays. He will miss chances but everyone does that. So leave him alone boo boys and change your club to Tescos where they never miss goal chances do they?

We could get into the play - offs. We are starting to play well. Now is the time for us all to pull together. We can do Charlton and even get a point from Bristol City. Lets all help the team. Boo boys bog off

  41. LincolnWolf said:

He’s not really ‘having a pop’ he’s just saying that when the crowd get behind the players it can have a positive effect, as we saw this weekend.
    Well said Andy.
Now maybe, just maybe, if we start getting behind the team, we could just get into the playoffs.

  42. Bankstown Wolf said:

Do any of you older fans remember this chant from the old north bank in the sixties.
    “Peter Knowles ,Burnside.”
2 players after the same position and fans expressing their preference.
To be serious a bit of a mickey take really as Knowles was a cult figure.
My 2 favourite chant at the time after:
“We took the Brummie Road again.”

I work with many Albion fans and considering you’re in the semi-final and the play offs, its not all sweetness and light at sandwell, with a lot of discord amongst your fans!!

  50. mossman said:

I thought it would be the Fans fault. GET REAL…. If the the Players, Manager and Directors of Wolves can’t see the facts about this season I will point them out.
Its been a very poor season.
With the money thats been spent and made available to buy players we should be in a better position and playing better football than we have seen this season.
We have failed against very poor teams who do not have 2 X 1.5m+ forwards. I think our Fans do and should expect more.
How many Players have writien this season that the performance has not been good. We can see how bad it is and it appears that Mick does not know how to put it right. With the players we have the ‘lotto playoffs’ this season is a failure.

  51. Wath Wanderer said:

You see the real problem here is that there is a culture that has developed
over the last 10years in this country which worries me immensely. You are
only allowed an opinion if you agree with everyone else, if you don’t you
get rebuked, put down or personally abused and in a free democracy
that cannot be right. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again to
those people who don’t like alternative opinions to their own, bugger off to
China and see how you like your philosophy.

As for Mr Keogh and the like I suggest you get on with trying to play football
and score goals at this level rather than offer unwanted advice about things you
know little or nothing about. I would much prefer you to do that because that is
what you are paid to do rather than join in the fans debate.

  52. jimbo said:

too true. wolves fans are the most depressing, miserable, expectant people to ever watch the game.
They love it when theres a new player to slag off and torment.
Happens year after year. boring.we need 20,000 new fans. the teams fine, player for player best in the division even when Kightlys injured.

  53. john said:

And you wonder why it is impossible to attract top class players or Managers to our club, take a minute and ask yourselves, would you want to go through the abuse that is handed out by a section of the crowd? It’s the same in business when people are slagged off their performance suffers and people will not join a company where there is continual negativity.

  54. Worcester Wolf said:

Whether Freddy Eastwood should have started or not on Saturday, Andy Keogh had a good game. Yes, he missed a couple of chances early on but he didn’t let this or the ‘Freddy, Freddy’ chants get to him. He didn’t hide and he kept on working hard which he always does. He also continued to pose a threat when he was moved out wide right to accommodate Eastwood and Kyle late on. He doesn’t score often enough but he deserved his two goals on Saturday and they were both very good finishes.

Proud to be a Wolves fan

  55. Ian said:

For me is that’s its not about who plays up front. What frustrates me more is that we need a ball winning creative midfielder to replace Henry who gives the ball away too cheaply and then just strolls about as though its not his job to win it back. Get someone in there be it Freddy or not the goals will come in sackfulls.

  56. Golden Blood said:

  60. SUPERSTARDJWOLVES said:

Every ought to calm down here. We all thought he was brilliant last season… Come on lets take a chill pill. I was in the southbank and yes there was chants for freddie, but chants for AK too. Fans have there favourites whether its Kites, Freddie, AK etc etc. What has blown this out of all proportion is the comments from MM. The chants were NOT directed at AK, it was reminder to meet that Freddie is an out and out goalscorer and whilst AK has scored 10 all season, in my opionion I think he should be scoring all more. Anyway I still think this debate is not worth stretching out, because this season our achilles heel is central defenders and the lack of pace. MM has cleverly dismissed alot of blame away from his door not addressing these problems in the summer. But I am not going to bang on about that. There are games coming up and I think this league as poor as it is in terms of quality can still spring up a few more “surprises”!

  61. paul,devon said:

When the opinionated Keogh played for Eire U21 at Southampton he missed three straightforward chances. Sound familiar? At least he is even-handed as he regularly does the same at Wolves.
I don’t doubt his energy, I just don’t think he is a natural goalscorer.

  62. debigbadwolfman said:

agree with you 60.i think mick has inflamed the situation with his comments about keough saying that wolves fans are having a dig at keough by singing freddy’s name and that we want freddy to replace him.noone said that and noone was having a dig at keough as we all know he gives his all every game.wolves fans just want a goalscorer on the pitch and it infuriates me to have potentially one of the best ones at the club(seb apart)sitting on the bench every week getting 2 or 3 mins a game.i thought eastwood did well against scunny the other night and put a shift in so to speak and if i’m not mistaken who was it who laid on the equaliser for keough saturday?yes you guessed it it was freddy so i’m sure mick can find a place for all 3 seb.keough and freddy.also maybe henry could do with a rest and potter given a chance in that holding midfield role.

  63. Big Wolf said:

all of us wolves fans need to stick together we all have our favourites and mick has mad this a bigger thing than it already is !! people like keogh people like freddy !! its nice to have some friction for people to fight for there players aswell even though i wish he would play keogh on the right and eastwood and ebanks-blake up front !! PLUS THE COMMENTS WERE DIRECTED AT YOU MICK NOT ANDY BECAUSE YOU HAVE NEVER GIVEN FREDDY A CRAK AT THE WHIP .. WERE AS YOU ALWAYS PLAY YOU GOLDEN BOY KEOGH !! TO MANY FAVORITES IN MY EYES !!

  64. Clapham Wolf said:

We make a rod for our own backs. Keogh probably should not have commented on the chanting and stayed out of it and got his head down and keep putting the effort in to get us a few goals.

What good will it do laying in to the players while they’re on the pitch - totally counter productive. For the section of the fans booing so vehemently at the game on Saturday you don’t deserve to support a decent team with that sort of attitude. Stay at home and watch Dial M for Murder

  65. otterburnwolf said:

Keogh’s got off pretty lightly out of QPR game.

Just think if we had lost & what striker tracked back into our half without getting one decent challenge, then just watched as the QPR guy smashed the ball in our net for 3-2.
    Erm……….yeah it was Keogh.
Expect defence would have been criticised for your lack of challenges Andy.

Before, you make comments about us backing you mate - make sure you put in 100% effort all over that pitch whilst you are on it.

    Memo to Wolves players:

Negativity is a response to what happens on the pitch.

If you can’t shut the negativity up through your performances on the pitch, then run crying to the Express & Star.

If you can shut the negativity up with your performances on the pitch, then get on with it.

It seems too many players think it’s too much like hard work to try and shut the negativity up by performing well on the pitch as most of the first team has now run to the Express & Star crying about being booed.

  67. Colley Gate Wolf said:

I can sort of understand what he’s saying but keeping his gob shut would have been a smarter option. Every player has his critics and they should prove themselves on the pitch rather than ‘throwing a Bothroyd’. Personally I think Keogh can do a good job on his day but I also understand Eastwood fans frustrations that he can’t get a game. Lets just back the team till the end of this godforsaken season and see what happens next….and to the fans who blame the South Bank for everything, not all are boo boys (me and most people I know) and the North Bank is just as bad

…I feel bad for the lad, we pay his wages from arriving at the match and he blames us for getting on his case when he can’t perform! what is the world coming to?

  74. stevewolves said:

Wolves Fans pay alot of money to see the lads perform.
I’m not one for booing, but the fans have a right to say and express what they feel. Whether boo or cheer!
If Keogh doesnt like it then he knows where the Stoke City front door is!
Saturday’s performance was better but still some dissapointing factors to the game!
I do not feel Wolves will progress under McCarthy, hes got to move on.
Freddy is the best all round striker at the club, Ebanks is the goalscorer.

Wolves will not make the playoff’s, a 9th place finish is all i can see.

    Some facts:

    Morecambe 120 min
    Stoke 85 min
    Germany (for Wales) 90 min
    Sheffield U 2 min
    Hull 90 min
    Leicester 24 min
    Coventry 45 min
    Cyprus (for Wales) 58 min
    Cardiff 40 min
    Ipswich 45 min
    Bristol C 6 min
    Southampton 90 min
    Barnsley 90 min
    Ireland (for Wales) 59 min
    WBA 29 min
    Colchester 90 min
    Preston 85 min

    Blackpool 2 min
    Cardiff 50 min
    Southampton 11 min
    Burnley 4 min
    Scunthorpe 23 min
    QPR 31 min

Plus 3 reserve games 270 min

A total of 1233 minutes playing for Wolves, plus 536 minutes playing for Wales or for the reserves. That is 1769 minutes of football without scoring and one of the worst spells for a striker in English football history.

He will find the net again, and can be a great inspiration for Wolves for the rest of the season, but please dont forget the facts when you rate him as a great scorer who havent got a chance to prove himself.

NOT FIT TO WEAR THE No.9 SHIRT, OVER PAID LOWER LEAGUE RUBISH.

7 LEAGUE GOALS IN 26 MATCHES PLUS 10 AS SUB, NO OTHER STRIKER HAS HAD AS MUCH TIME ON THE FIELD AS THIS DONKEY!

#75..wow, what a lot of work, bet Keogh didn’t have those stats in his resume..bet he won’t bother to either!

where did you retrieve these facts from?anyway not really bothered about reserve/cup games/games for wales.anyone who knows anything about football knows that you need tme on the pitch to build up an understanding with a settled team then we will see the best out of freddy, even when he’s not scoring he will create chances for other players to score goals(maybe a bit of service would be nice).i prefer to look at the goals he scored in a struggling southend team and has done consistently for a few years now .sorry but he hasn’t just turned crap over night since coming to wolves. maybe it helps though when the manager buying the player(mm)has an idea of where he’s gonna play him instead of buying him then thinking “erm he don’t fit into my system”anyway lets hope we can finally see the best of him now and start scoring a few goals.

Once again a draw. Still yo play some of the best in the division. I just can’t see how this team can get into the playoffs, let alone being promoted.

Even the thickest of these players knows that if the team is promoted, then they will be replaced by Premiership quality signings. The players like Wolves wages at Championship level, and that is where they will stay.

Those of Premiership standard will be sold and be away in the close season. Moxey would not risk his gravy train on anything else.

  80. McCarthys Last Stand said:

McCarthy paid £1.5M of our money for Freddy Eastwood. The player has talent, and we are not getting to see it. Only a handful of full games and a bundle of cameo appearances where he is playing for a short period in an unbalanced team, not geared to his game.

Somebody must make McCarthy accountable to the fans for this whole surreal situation. Why? Just give us a reason!

  81. Norway Wolf said:

It’s not only McCarthy having a go at the loyal Wolves fans, now its Keogh as well!

The whole club is in meltdown!

  82. Golden Blood said:

    80. Why should we balcance a whole team for 1 player. Keogh and SEB are the best partnership we have had this season by a countrymile. And believe me we have had a few partnerships. Mick has it dead right about Eastwood to bring him from the bench and play Keogh and SEB as first choice.

By the way that £1.5 million is Morgans money, and even if it was our money I would sooner the other £10million spent on the team be utilised not the £1.5 million sat on the bench. SEB was the best £1.5 million spent in Wolves history I think.

#78, facts are facts, yes he did a good job for a team in a lower division! It’s where his talent lies, not up with the “big guys” jammed in the middle of the championship league!

Suggest you take a moment to read information available then try amd kick your brain into gear before you add comments on here.

post 84 you know sod all about football…”keogh is brillaint”???!!! What planet are you on?,no upper body strength to hold off challenges, poor shot, woeful composure infront of goal.If keogh was a decent player we would have beat QPR,face facts the lad is a lower league donkey who runs around alot that gets a goal every blue moon after 5000 attempts have been hit like rugby conversions.Eastwoods goal scoring record throughout his career is excellent, far better than keoghs will ever be but he must obviously have a personality clash with thick mick
