Wolves youngsters not for sale

Mick McCarthyMick McCarthy today insisted he has no intention of holding a firesale of Wolves’ promising Academy graduates at the end of the season.

The Wolves young guns who played a role in last season’s promotion push have found themselves sidelined, with Daniel Jones, Mark Little and Stephen Gleeson all forced out on loan to get first team football.

All three have caught the eye away from Molineux, with Jones and Little impressing Northampton boss Stuart Gray enough for him to state his desire to keep them permanently.

Hereford chief Graham Turner wants to keep Gleeson until the end of the campaign and has also gone on record to praise defender Lee Collins.

But despite the admiring glances of opposition managers, McCarthy has issued a blanket “not for sale” over the future of his young stars.

“It would not be our benefit to sell them,” McCarthy said.

“There is no intention of mine to let them go at the end of the season.

“It might even be that we want them to come back – we’ll just have to see how we are at the end of the month before we decide that one.

“They might even be coming back in two weeks time.

“They have gone out to get some experience. I thought Daniel Jones came back and looked a far better player for playing regularly.

“Mark Little came back and trained with us this week and looked good and Glees (Stephen Gleeson) has only just gone out. Lee Collins has certainly done well at Hereford.”

McCarthy anticipates more interest in the young guns over the summer if they continue to impress.

And it is Jones he should perhaps worry about most, with Northampton desperate to bring him in and the midfielder equally keen to get a full season of first-team football.

“I’m not surprised that they want to sign them – why shouldn’t they? They’re good players,” he said.

“I went to Northampton the other week and I got the biggest cheer of the night.

“I think they were trying to get on my good side – everyone was saying to me ‘Let us keep Daniel’.”

Certainly not for sale….YET! wait until Moxey hears about this and Morgan for that matter, sell the lot you watch and bring in more even cheaper conference make weights! Football, I mean quality football is overwith at Wolves, its all business and “staying in the black”!

I do like the idea that Northampton gave MM a cheer, why not indeed? he isn’t THEIR manager afterall..

There’s no justifying your comment, Mick looks like turning us round, and you get people like you ruining the optimism, I dunno whether your albion or summat, cos you clearly dont see wolves in action!

wolfmadgaz you know nothing - Grey knows football and is desparate to keep Jones but knows Little is out of his league. Foley is a bog standard right back does his job well but when the going gets tough he struggles. Little/ Gleeson/Jones etc. are bright and eager to learn MM just dropped them to justify his signings The boys were loyal to Chris Evans who has also left because of MM stubberness and his attitide towards the academy. And they will leave trust me MM could have moulded all of them and the team would be outstanding but no - Mick youve missed a marvellous opportunity to make our team great - but whats new.
