Wolves’ play-off hopes have received a major boost with the news Michael Kightly has given himself a two-week deadline to get back in contention.
The Championship’s Young Player of the Year has been out for four months after having surgery to have a bone spur removed from his ankle.
But he hopes to be fighting for a first team place by the second week of April.
“I’m on the mend – hopefully I should be back in the next couple of weeks,” said Kightly in an interview today.
“I had a bone spur at the back of my ankle in my Achilles that was giving me grief.
“It was giving me sharp pains in my Achilles so I’ve had that shaven.
“I tried to come back twice but I’ve been out for nearly four months now and I’ve had so many injections, I thought it best to get it done.”
Wolves went into today’s Molineux clash against Queens Park Rangers just a point off the play-offs.
All but two of the remaining games for Mick McCarthy’s men are against teams in the top half of the table, but Kightly is hopeful of Wolves maintaining their push.
“You have to take one game at a time in the Championship because we’ve got a tough run-in,” he said.
“We’re playing teams around us and if we can pick up wins from there, that’s going to stand us in good stead and we’ll have a great chance.”
But he admitted the players can’t help thinking of playing at the country’s stellar venues.
“Dream of Old Trafford and Anfield? Yes, that’s where we want to be and that’s where I want to be, playing at stadiums like that,” he added.
“If you don’t dream then you’re not going to get there, so of course we dream.”
Kightly admitted he still can’t believe he’s playing at Championship level just 18 months after turning out for Blue Square Premier side Grays

i notice on the tesco’s site, your one of their biggest fans. miller, phillips and bednar were the best strike force you’d ever seen last week.
but now we’re catching them up, it will be seb, freddy and keogh who are the best you’ve ever seen i suppose.
Fair comment kent wolf cant argue with that.

I love Kent Wolf!
Kent, I`d have to dissagree, I`d have to say the Doog and King John…….but I hope ebanks-blake and Keogh do the biz this afternoon…. come on you Wolves
raythewolf:
Each had ther own merits, though Doog & John Richards did there scoring at the highest levels.
I’d love to see Freddy & SEB upfront today, with Keogh & Jarvo providing the ammunition.
at the very end when they said are you happy at wolves, not very convinsing answer when he said yes.
Eastwood and SEB up front, with Keogh just behind!
