Reading 2 Blues 1

806soccer-barclays.jpg

16.51: Full time and a disappointing afternoon for Blues, who slip into further trouble.

Blues lie just a point outside the drop zone after wins for Sunderland and Newcastle.

16.50: Into three minutes of injury time at Reading. Bad for Blues with plenty of rivals winning.

16.42: Jerome on as a substitute for Blues and his header is saved by Hahnemann - Blues need a leveller.

16.37: Disaster for Blues as Bike scores his second of the game with 79 minutes gone. Against the run of play.

Free kick again same mistake from the Blues defence and it’s a carbon copy of the first Reading goal.

16.29: Forssell should score but Hahnemann saves superbly. Great chance for Blues.

16.27: Garry O’Connor comes on for Blues in an attacking step from McLeish. The momentum has swung a bit.

16.20: Against the run of play Blues are level and it’s Zarate on target. He capitalised after Forssell squared the ball into the six yard box and tapped in.

16.16: Doyle heads over as Reading threaten to close out the game.

16.10: Reading spurn a good chance to double their lead, Oster firing over from six yards.

16.06: Back in action at the Madejski.

15.46: Blues go in 1-0 down at the break.

15.32: Half chance for Forssell. His shot on the turn is blocked. Don’t count on this one finishing 1-0.

15.30: Goal to Reading. Hunt bends in a free-kick and Bikey gets on the end of it to give the home side a crucial lead.

15.25: Cracking game so far. Taylor forced to make a good reaction save from Kitson.

15.20: Good chance for Blues. Jaidi rises highest but sends his header just over the bar.

15.17: Reading hit the bar. Murphy cracks in a shot but it catches the top of the crossbar. The home side look favourites to break the duck.

15.13: Another good save from Taylor - this time from Kitson. This one doesn’t look like it’s going to stay goalless for too long.

15.09: McSheffrey should have given Blues the lead but drilled his chance wide.

15.08: Elsewhere at the bottom of the table Newcastle have taken a 1-0 lead against Fulham through Mark Viduka.

15.03: Great save from Taylor after a cross and scramble in the six-yard area. Reading have looked the brightest in the very early exchanges.

15.00: We’re under way at Reading.

14.30: The teams are in and Alex McLeish has resisted the temptation to bring back Mark Taylor. The defender was available for the first time since his sending off for the ‘horror’ tackle on Arsenal’s Eduardo. Nafti and Zarate come in for Johnson (who drops to the bench) and McFadden.

Blues: Maik Taylor, Kelly, Ridgewell, Jaidi, Murphy, Larsson, Muamba, Nafti, McSheffrey, Forssell, Zarate.

Subs: Doyle, O’Connor, Jerome, Parnaby, Johnson.

14.00: Defeat is not an option according to Blues keeper Maik Taylor - and a loss would leave Alex McLeish’s men in major trouble.

A win would take them above today’s opponents. It’s certainly the classic six pointer.
