Albion have the desire: Boss

mowbray2.jpgTony Mowbray today hailed the desire that he believes can carry Albion back to the Premier League.

The Baggies manager called an on-the-field huddle after last night’s 1-1 draw at Charlton to demonstrate the unity at The Hawthorns.

And he insisted that morale remains as high as ever despite recent setbacks in the promotion race including a 4-1 defeat to Leicester last Saturday.

“I don’t think there are any cracks in our team,” said Mowbray.

“Sometimes results can damage morale and nobody enjoyed last weekend but I think people could see yesterday that the morale and belief is very much there among this group of players.

“The performance, the desire and the work ethic they put in was as good as it’s been all season.

“The huddle wasn’t pre-planned and we don’t generally do it, although occasionally the players will do one before a game.

“But I thought the supporters who travelled needed to see, after last week, that the team are very much together and fighting for the cause.

“I thought the performance showed that, but the unity of the group was something important to show to the supporters watching on TV or in the stand behind the goal.

“They saw that this group gave everything they’d got to try to get the results to get us out of this league.”

Leading scorer Kevin Phillips took his tally for the season to 21 when he grabbed Albion’s equaliser at The Valley yesterday.

But Mowbray is still not willing to guarantee the former England man a place in the starting line-up.

“We know the quality that Kevin possesses,” he said.

“Kevin is very respectful of the other players we’ve got.

“Roman Bednar and Ishmael Miller have scored goals and I thought that Luke Moore was looking for an opportunity to get his tally going last weekend.”

  20. WolvesWolves said:

HAVE YOU NOTICED THAT IF YOU LOT DONT GET PROMOTED THIS SEASON A MAJORITY OF YOUR PLAYERS WILL BE GETTING IMPATIENT AND JOINING A BETTER PREMIER LEAGUE SIDE LIKE THE WOLVES. ALSO THAT KEVIN PHILIPS IS OVERRATED. HE HAS SCORED 1 MORE GOAL THAN OUR SEB AND HE IS THE GREATEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD. SEB AND OTHER TOP STRIKERS NEVER GET MENTIONED. ALSO THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW WOLVES ARE TOP OF THE FORM GUIDE WBA ARE 11TH.

Phillips and gera leaving, your right back hoefkins slating the club and the area in his native country, robinson seeking advice on how to pass a medical and get out, greening unable to get a haircut and terrible form and after a heavy defeat in the cup you may even finish 7th oh how hiliarious that would be 2 seasons of arrogance 2 seasons of failiure!!!

how can you say its a point gained IF you want to go up in style, as you lot keep banging on about? Surely a “quality” side like albion should be beating charlton 2/3 nil??you keep saying you the best team in the league, but you have not shown it CONSISTANTLY this season….it will go down to the wire, you watch

  31. Keith Curle's Big To said:

“The Mowbray Way” has far too soft an underbelly for my liking.
Skill and flair will only get you so far in this league, what we need now is grit and determination, which are qualities I haven’t seen up to yet.
We need the same attitude as when we went up the first time (We were 12 points behind a certain team, who was that?).
Forget the fancy football all that matters is winning now!
