Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has told his young guns to follow Michael Gray’s lead as he looks for cool heads during the Championship promotion run-in.
Gray has led from the front during Wolves’ recent surge to the fringe of the play-offs, scoring three goals in the last month to help the Molineux men move within a point of the top six.
The 33-year-old already has a promotion on his CV with Sunderland and McCarthy believes that pedigree can aid Wolves’ bid for the top six.
“He’s full of energy and enthusiasm and, at 33 or whatever he is, an example to the younger players,” he said.
“His enthusiasm is still what it was at 23, it’s remarkable. He’s a good footballer – going forward is always something he has loved to do, even when he was playing at left-back.
“He and George (Elokobi) have formed a good relationship for us down the left. We have good balance there and having Mickey in the team also gives us good experience.”
Meanwhile, McCarthy is wary of a QPR side who travel to Molineux with a “swagger”.
“QPR are on the up – not just results-wise but in terms of their profile,” he said.
“They’ve had some investment and signed players in January to keep them up and you can see the impact it’s had.
“They’ve had a different demeanour compared to earlier in the season.
“They have a swagger and self belief that they are going places.
“They are a good footballing side and have quality in the team.”
McCarthy also had words of comfort for Darren Potter, who was substituted during the first half of Tuesday’s win over Scunthorpe.
“It was a tactical decision and Matt Jarvis went on in his place and made an impact straightaway,” he said.
“I had a chat with Potts afterwards, as I always would with a player in that situation, but sometimes your words fall on stony ground at a time like that.”

The shoot on sight & chase everything attitude that Mickey has recently discovered is brilliant.
Keep it up, play offs still within reach!

I hope this does not mean that he will start with a 4-5-1 lineup again, at home. Maybe QPR are swaggering, but attack is the only way to get us into the play-offs. Draws are not good enough!
JUST TO THE END OF THE SEASON!
Since appearing on life on mars and Ashes to Ashes old Micky Gray has rolled back the years yet again to nock some in for the boys in gold
final push boyz
i see there’s no mention of freddy again, who also had a big impact when he came on. i’m resigned to the fact he’ll be gone in the summer, and mick will loose a terrific young striker.
only mick knows what’s happening with fred, and reguardless of his imput he just can’t get a game. i wish mick would just say once and for all why he’s not giving freddy a fair go, keeping quiet about it just invites scorn from fans. who would probably say “fair enough” if mick told us why he’s so reluctant to pick him.
Kent Wolf
This is in response to one of your earlier posts, & to those who criticise your loyalty.
There are so few of us left that know exactly what the rise & fall of the Wolves was really like. You have certainly earned the right to say whatever you want because of your loyalty. And rather self-righteously, so have I.
Just out of interest, can anyone that questions Kent Wolf’s loyalty answer any of these ‘easy for a true Wolves fan’ trivia questions…
So, on the subject of chants at Middlesborough, what was the chant that upset the home fans so much that they threw bricks & coins at the Wolves fans in the corner enclosure?
What did Tommy Docherty promise all the Wolves fans that attended the last match of the 1985 season?
What upset the Scunthorpe fans at Graham Turner’s first match as Wolves as manager, 1986?
In Wolves 1989 2-0 win at Blackpool…what did Wolves fans shelter behind from the bitter winter storm?
Finally, who went to Lincoln away when we were already relegated to the 4th division, err, apart from me?
By the way, I too was in the North Bank, in the under 16’s enclosure, for that Brighton game. Very disappointing. We went 1-0 down very early on, were all over them & they got a late 2nd to make it a completely undeserved 2-0 defeat…yes it does seem like yesterday.

Sounds like MM ready to admit defeat but blame someone else, actually blame anyone! How can he possibly be at fault if we lose? Another pie and pint please barman! burp
