A search has been launched to find a military band to lead veterans at a Remembrance Day parade in Wolverhampton later this year.
Senior councillor Phil Bateman is heading the hunt for musicians after last year’s parade in his Wednesfield ward took place in silence.
The annual Poppy Day service is due to take place on November 9, with old soldiers marching from the Wood End British Legion Club in Victoria Road to St Thomas’s parish church.
Community leaders are anxious the way is led by a military band to add a sense of occasion to the parade.
Councillor Bateman said: “While silence is normally golden, on November 9 we’re after the sound of some traditional brass instruments to lead our veterans in the style.
“Last year’s march took place in stony silence which just wasn’t right. Our local heroes deserve more.”
Around 300 people turned out to show their support at last year’s Garden of Remembrance ceremony.
The band that normally plays at the service had folded due to dwindling numbers. Any band willing to volunteer their services can call Councillor Bateman on 01922 403960.
