Tony Mowbray today sounded an Albion rallying cry and challenged players and fans to attack the end of the season with no fear.
Five dropped points in two home matches last week left Mowbray’s side back in the pack with nine matches to go in the race to the Premier League.
But Mowbray has urged the club to relish the final weeks of the campaign as they chase promotion and FA Cup success.
“I am happy to be where we are,” said Mowbray.
“We’re in a race with other clubs to get out of this league and if we win our games in hand we will go top of the league.
“Why should we have any fears or regrets or unhappiness about where we are?
“We have got no divine right to win this league.
“Every week we see what a tough league it is and we’re in a fantastic position with a fantastic opportunity over the next nine games to try to get promotion for our club.
“We should relish that, look forward to it and be delighted that we’ve got the opportunity.
“A lot of teams in our league would like to be in our position so we should just be positive and push on together.
“Yes, we’re disappointed with the two results at home because we would have liked to come out of this week at the top of the table with games in hand.
“But that hasn’t been the case and we’ve got to stick together and keep going and realise we’re in a very strong position.”
Mowbray’s players are back in action at Charlton on Friday after their draw at home to Crystal Palace and the 4-1 defeat to Leicester.
And the Maggies boss has ordered them to forget the events of the last week as they head to The Valley.
“Players have got to be durable,” he said.
“If they’re not durable, they’re not going to survive in the game.
“By nature you’ve got to be able to rebound as a footballer and, if you can’t, and don’t have that ability to get back in on a Monday and start again you won’t go very far in the game.
“That’s what we expect from the players this week.
“They have to get over the disappointment and start looking forward to Charlton.
“It’s a televised game and another great opportunity to go and show everyone what a decent team we are.”

Guns blazing - thats a sight to scare everyteam in the league.
We need to revert to the football that put us top for three months - and thats flowing attacking football.
People keep highlighting our defence - but its our forwards that need to improve. We need them to be scoring early goals - we need them to convert a high % of their chances as they did earlier in the season - and we need them to SCARE the opposition.
We have a decent defence, but we are inviting teams on by not punishing them - a quick goal or two gives us the confidence to play our football and take teams apart.
We need goals - NOW !!!!
happy i totaly agree bt the whole club ,fans players ,managers are nervous that goes for other teams, hull will start to show frailty..thats why the early goal settles the nerves friday is a MASSIVE game..gulp
Well maybe mr mowbray should stop changing a winning team then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im right behind you tony charlton here i come, boing boing doing the double the MOWBURY WAY
I think other teams in this league have done their homework on you and it’s starting to show as other teams are getting results against you, and I also believe your FA cup run has done you no favours either because your league form has dipped as a result, if you lose on friday and we beat QPR it’s squeaky bum time for you lot.
we need miller and Phillips back up front together in my mind
yes bednar is good and i like him alot….but u cant argue with the miller-phillips partnership as it has brought so many goals this season!
I gotta agree with Kez, Miller & Phillips seemed to give us that correct balance & plenty of goals, it would be unfair on Bednar but we now need something that has been tried & tested and to be fair it was immense. When fit Brunty & Gera on the wings, lets go for it now ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!!!
1 Disagree our cavalier style has cost us thats why we’ve not run away with this league.I would rather us scrap out 1 nils to the end of the season Focus on promotion play effective football appropriate to this league1
THIS IS OLD TALK. This has been worked out by your opposition and wont work, the problem is YOUR DEFENCE. FATTY- icant pass a medical robinson, alby, hodgkiss and hoefkins are not good enough simple as that! your midfield is too lightweight in the middle koren and greening are gonna get pushed all over the park against pompey and olofinjana at molineux. any of you tescos looking nervously over your shoulder at wolves yet? terrywembleysadbaggie you usually got something to say?!
Regardless of all the points we have dropped, if we win our games we will finish top. Cliche time - 9 cup finals in the league. Lets get behind the lads. Come on you Baggies. And i’m convinced we are going to win the cup.
Miller and Phillips I agree would be my starting pair up front. Its time now for the players to demonstrate why they are worth what they are and more in some cases. Big hearts all round and alot of encoragement from the stands, we do need to play with no fear as the gaffer says and we play best in the oposition half no doubt, defensively we are not quite there so when we score 1 we should not sit back but keep pushing on……….COME ON BOYS WE CAN DO THIS. Boing Boing!!
stick men behind the ball and catch your awful defence and lightweight midfield on the counter simple!
Why is everyone panicking? We can all see that this is going to be possibly the tightest promotion race ever.
In this month we are doing ok compared to the others in the promotion places except for Hull
Team Pld W D L Pts
Stoke 4 1 2 1 5
Bristol 5 1 3 1 6
Watford 4 0 4 0 4
Albion 4 2 1 1 7
Hull 6 4 0 2 12
Plym 5 2 0 3 6
No one has played less league games than us and we have accumulated the second most points.
Not forgetting the cup win.
Have faith in TM.
Withe reference to Laughingwolf. No team has yet worked the Wolves out. Even Mick Mccarthy can’t do that!!
Proud to be a Maggie.(whatever one of them is)
Laughingwolf, im curious exactly what is it you have got to laugh about?? Last time i looked you and the rest of the dog heads were saying that it was a wasted season and that Mick had lost the magic, i guess things have changed now you have won 2 games on the trot? You lot are as fickle as they come
If we had a full squad available, I would agree with blowing away the opposition, but we haven’t & without Brunt & Teixira in particular, I don’t think we are capable of doing that anyway. It’s all about holding your nerve at this stage of the season & hopefully the disappointment of last season will give us an advantage over some of the others (Stoke, Bristol City) who haven’t been in this position before.
Im not sure, i think westbrom are definately not cut out for the prem? can you imagine your defence performing like they did at leicester against man u? derby at the moment would be wba. if wolves went up we have the financial backing and mc carthy will of learnt from his mistakes with sunderland. wolves stoke and bristol city for promotion. westbrom no cup no promotion arrogant fans.
We’re sitting pretty and it’s in our hands, not relying on any other results. We are the ONLY team in the division that can say this, which puts us in the best position to go up. IF we don’t get auto then do the Wolves fans REALLY want us in the playoffs? providing they can string several results together to scrape their way into them.
Please all join me, with hands together & repeat
Our Father, who art in football
Wembley, be thy name
When Sunday comes, semi final place won
On earth, we will be in heaven
Give us this day, and lots of goals
And forgive us our defensive mishaps
As we forgive those who score against us
Lead us not into the playoffs
but deliver us to the promised land.
For thine is the kingdom.
The premiership & the FA Cup
Forever and ever.
Amen
COME ON YOU BAGGIES!!!!
8 Baggiebirder.
I would agree with you if we had Gary Megsons team that got us up but we haven’t. There are too many teams in this division with the personnel to play attritional football better than us. If we can’t get up playing pure football then we probably won’t get up, so I have to agree with TM. This doesn’t mean not keeping it tight but we haven’t got the right players for kick and rush.
There’s an unusual lack of booing from down the road, have they won a game?
Up the Maggies.
laughingwolf tou are having a laugh!!! should ther not be an at between the laughing and wolf take off your blinkers ,the wolves seem to be stuck in this league, would you swap places with us at the moment course you would so go back to playing sudoku!!!!
tony too much time!!!!!
19.. Classic very good
Laughing Wolf. Your comments are…..well laughable. Perhaps you should be more realistic and a true fan like the majority of the other wolves fans on here.We managed to whoop you 3 times last season…I dont think you arein any position to comment on the albion. I think you should be more concerned about your own side.
17… You are 100% correct our defence is not good enough for the prem .One slight flaw is we would be able to defenders for the premiership why would you have more financial backing that albion in the premiership sensble question .
17) you are either joking or insane.
1) you wont go up (not a cat in hells chance)
2) you would be the derby, we destroyed breen and craddick so i fear for what the prem would do.
3) mcCarthy is the worst manager in prem history
2 and 3 are facts 1 is just my opinion.
so i presume you were joking
P.s baggies keep the faith we will do it, just not the easy way this is albion after all
17 Laughing Wolf.
Could you put all of those words into some sort of order, add some punctuation and capital letters and let us have another chance at reading it. PS. Are you a native American by any chance.
20.
They’ve won a game so they all love Mick again, they all love the players again , they don’t need Freddie and they are queueing up for the early bird tickets.
Give it until after the weekend and it will all change again….
Just heard that Miller has been called up to the England U21 squad - a well deserved reward for a brilliant season so far.
Luke Moore has also been called up - and if Villa can claim Curtis Davies, I’m claiming Luke Moore.
So its 2 forwards in the U21’s - a sign for the future ???
24.
still on about last season are we and where did beating us get you. no where.
all this talk about win our games in hand and we are top. you have to win your other games as well not just the ones in hand.
mood seems to have changed amongst you sandwell fans not so big headed as you were a couple of weeks ago . probably finally realized your team is not as superior as you all thought it was.
came back down to earth with a bang did we.
you were warned.
TonyWBA:
ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!!!
Someone should’ve told Luke Moore not to take it literally.
28.
making your own comments up now are we.
and actually we have won two in a row remember what that feels like.
all you sandwell fans seem to think wolves would fear playing you in the play-offs.
not a chance we will relish it.
time to put you in your place.
Afternoon all,
i have been reading this forumn for a while and eventually decided to join the fun!!
Got my Wembley tickets through today and wondered if anyone is planning to go on the train? If so do you know if there are any ’specials’ on that are going direct to Wembley? All i can find is from Birmingham Snow Hill to High Wycombe and the change for a a train to Wembley.
Any alternatives would be greatly appreciated.
Boing Boing!!!
I agree with burger bob….. I understand about the rotation policy, but if it aint broke why try and fix it……! The baggies will come through to the prem though. I predicted at the start of the season that by some miraculous default we will trip up into the prem…. LOL I also predicted last season that we would’nt go up and look what happened there! Hark at me…. I sound like a travelling circus sideshow…..AHEM!
You can get a directy train on virgin but it is more expensive, best i found was the chilten boneshaker was the best. i leaves at 6am get you there for about 8.30.
32.
No-one’s interested son.
33.There’s a few of us going on a minibus , getting off at Ruislip then the tube straight to Wembley.Beats all the traffic and time for a beer.
21. If you are going to pick somebody up on their english, check your own first as you’ve made yourself look really stupid, perhaps you should go back to suduko
36.
does your mommy know your going to be drinking beer.
if you wasn’t interested you would not have made a comment.
Hi,Happy-Baggie,nice to hear from you again, you normally talk sense.Have you calmed down after the leicester drubbing? It’s just a gentle build up to your semi-final heartbreak.
Michael, your comment number 30.
I applaud the way you dismiss facts, when it doesn`t suit your agenda.
When you suggest db is “still on about last season”
i find it amusing that you state it, as if it is of no relevance, which it isn`t,
but you are keen to recite how good the wolves were 50 odd years ago.
35. Suduko for you too???
Last year you beat us 3 times, well done. we had 9 pros at the begining of last season. your arrogant fans were saying you were going to walk the league instead we finished on the same points total? KAMARA, KOUMAS, ROBINSON (BUT COULDNT PASS A MEDICAL) GERA (COULDNT FIND A CLUB) all wanhted out regardless if you would of beat derby, but the better team won and look at them now? and you were not as good as them and the above would of left! end of the season you will be left with nobody apart from robinson and thats only cause his medical condition isn’t upto scratch! WOULD YOU REALLY WANT WOLVES IN THE PLAY OFFS???
Phillips (end of contract) Gera (stated intention to leave for a long while)koren and greening aregood footballers but too weak and theres lots of whispers that tony mowbray is lined up for middlesbrough if and when gareth southgate goes, but why they would want him is baffling he’s acheived nothing. you maybe in the semis of the club after beating very poor teams on the way nobody higher in league status than yours and you will get found out by pompey, wba the jinxed wembley club!
Good grief things are desperate we are commenting on grammar now.
End of the day the future is unpredictable , especially when applied to football.
All the rebukes and “my dad can beat your dad” bragging will serve no purpose
Who knows both teams may be in the Championship ( a misnomer if I ever saw one)next season.
But I know that I have enjoyed this season at the Hawthorns more than any, the football at times has been sublime. I remember when we were relegated saying”Well at least I will see us win some matches in the fizzy drinks division”, and what a great ride it has been. Thanks to TM and his footballing philosophy.
Still optomistice about the remaining games and I will enjoy a trip back to Wembley so I have had a great season…. so far.
As they say its a funny old game ennit
i am not picking up on their english but thier stupid comment!! speed tiping is noy my forte!!
Lets ALL go back to playing suduko - this is really boring.
laughingwolf: Right we Baggies are arogant. It´s hard to be humble when your so great. Danish Baggie
wolves1877(gone bust now wolves 1986)concentrate on your own team,we will go up as champions and who knows we also win the cup.Proud to be a baggie the goalmachine is on the attack.
UP THE WOLVES Are yo sandwell town fans gettin nervus now the WOLVES am breething down ya necks yow wull always live in our shaddow.See ya in the PLAYOFFS..
UP THE WOLVES see all yo sandwell town fans in the playoffs
17; laughing wolf said:
“wolves stoke and bristol city for promotion. westbrom no cup no promotion arrogant fans.”
…and of course not a hint of arrogance in that statement after your 2 wins!
33.
Plenty i know (myself & mates & ample supply of lager!)are going on the chiltern from stourbridge to wembley - not sure how fixed you’d be in Tamworth to get that one, maybe know someone near stour?
Book 4 adults for £64 family (£16 each)
It does not matter if the Baggies go up this season, or not we Albion supporters will still go to see them play next year whatever happens.
As long as we see an improvement in the team and players bought in by Tony, thats all that is needed. I would prefer to wait a few years to gather a good squad that once promoted will stay promoted for a few seasons and so increase revenue and have a platform. Look at Derby, sacked the man who got them up using his skill and knowledge with the limited funds he had. Sir Jack Haywood got fed up of throwing money at the Wolves and got out once they got promoted. It is hard to get of of the Championship, but hard to stay in the Premiership. Keep supporting the Baggies as we do and we will be promoted again in the near future.
boingboingbaggie especially.you called us a poor team in a good league.wat was ur score against leicster?u wer destroyed it just shows ur not as good as you think far from it this is a good league but my god ur not a good team.mowbary as i z is an arigont idiot average team wit average players.i hope u do well for the sake of west midlands football but i hope u boot dat manager of urs.hes spent so much cash on new players and he in reality has done nothing with it and has got u nowhere.best of luck for the rest of the season.ul need it against us HA HA.SUPER MICK
Hey Happy, Big Ish is going to play at the Mol, a bit of practice for him as he prepares for next month. Not sure what to wish for on Friday. I have been assuming that we wouldn’t catch you and therefore it would suit us for you to take all three points. Now we are only five points behind you. If you lost at Charlton and we beat QPR that gap would be down to 2 points with your visit to the Mol still to come. We have more home games but they are against some of the better teams so it is in our hands. We could still play you more than once again this season.
LAUGHINGWOLF- after reading your comments in disgust I am lost 4 words. Since when has hodgkiss started centre back for us? Our midfield isn`t lightweight it just xontains players who can PASS a ball. I can`t rememba koren and greening getting pushed around last season…. oh yes we scored 3 at molineux and won twice. Albrechstens a quality player who can play anywhere across the back four. Don`t worry were not looking over our sholders u ad 2 score in extra time to beat scunny at home. im lookin 4ward to wembley! Have u been yet And no Mr S Elliot goin 2 watch man u westlife dont count.
maybe wba have got to the point where they only want to play for the camera
Big Chief Laughing Wolf.
Do you believe in um deja vu? Was it around the time that the buffalo started to migrate at this time last year that your many shamen and medicene men started sending up smoke signals that you would annihilate our tribe in um play offs. This was after um similar predictions in um league. We did many dances round um totem pole in praise of um mighty God Stella of Artois. In the end you took um bigger thumping than relative of mine Sitting Bully handed out to Custer at Little Big Horn (is that why they call your unhappy hunting ground um Custer Bowl.)
58.The Real Bully
Very Funny mate but he won’t get it….
40.
i never mentioned anything about 50 years ago.
but also my point is last season you beat us but it didn’t lead to anything which makes it irrelevant.
48. Wolves never went bust in 1986, we were saved at the last minute so get your facts right before you transmit rubbish.
56. I think you too need to check facts before transmitting, Wolves winning goal against scunthorpe was scored in the 83rd minute.
58. It’s medicine man, how obtuse are you.
61 AFC Wolverhampton.
This Apache spelling of medicene, you white eyes took everything else, don’t mock our spelling or I will report you to race relations people.
PS. Be careful with your heap big blood pressure.
62. My blood pressure is fine, I just like winding you steptoe’s up, it’s better fun than hunting buffalo
63 - Um heap big steptoe joke falling on stoney ground.
Um dingle funny as flowing river - um steptoe dried grassland where no one goes.
Um live with it.
RE Wolves1987 I have checked the facts on your official club site and you not only went bankrupt in 1986 but also in 1983, so now you can have a choice of two new names .I suggest you calm down a bit.
64. Stepoe happy boggie don’t like being called steptoe, has to copy other steptoe to try and be funny, dried grassland you’re on about is the poorthorns.
65. The Molineux Street Stand (by now all-seater) failed to meet the standards of the 1975 Safety of Sports Grounds Act. The club set about building a new stand behind the existing one, on land where housing had been demolished. The new stand, designed by architects Atherden and Rutter, had a 9,500 capacity, equipped with 42 executive boxes, although sporting red seats in contrast to the club’s traditional colours. When the construction was complete, the old stand lying in front was demolished. This new stand, named the John Ireland Stand, was opened on August 25, 1979 against Liverpool.
The pitch was not moved following this development and so the stand was some 100ft from the touchline. The project had cost £10million and been one of the most expensive developments at any football ground and the cost of its construction plunged Wolves deep into debt and they narrowly avoided bankruptcy in 1982, when taken over by former player Derek Dougan. By the time Wolves slid into the Fourth Division in 1986, the John Ireland Stand and the South Bank terrace were the only sections of the ground in use, after new safety laws implemented following the Valley Parade fire forced the closure of the North Bank and Waterloo Road Stand, which were very dilapidated.
The club’s perilous financial situation meant the stadium fell into ruin, with no funding either for repairs or to move the pitch. The club was saved from folding in August 1986 when Wolverhampton Council bought the ground for £1.12 million, along with the surrounding land, while Gallagher Estates Ltd, in conjunction with the Asda Superstore chain, agreed to pay off the outstanding debt - subject to building and planning permission for a superstore being granted. Although, the stadium continued in use, the other sections were never reopened So boggie where does it say that we actually went bankrupt?
58-the realbully-you are a numpty.
Wolves1877:
When you were cutting & pasting, you missed the bit out where it says the Old South Bank once held 30,000 fans, making it (at the time)the largest standing terrace in the UK!
Even bigger than the Kop!
68. Sorry Kent wolf I was just proving to these steptoe idiots that we never actually went bankrupt, however they’ve kept it very quiet that sandwell town almost went bankrupt twice, 1905 & 1910, so they’re quick enough to throw dirt about our past but fail to mention their own scrapes with bankruptcy.
Wolves1877
do us all a favour , put your burberry scarf and hat back on and go and do what you do best - moan at Mad Mick.
Considering you’ve stated you like winding us lot up there’s only one numpty getting wound up - look in the mirror and you will find him.
65 Baggie9.
Much appreciated mate. AFC Wolverhampton 1983/1986 has called me a liar numerous times on this fact, don’t suppose I’ll get an apology. I hadn’t realised we ‘almost’ went bankrupt twice around a hundred years ago, ho. The shame of it, can I ever show my face in public again? On his attempt at a reply. I bet some current fans would pay good money to be in that stand 100 ft from the pitch.
67 Gloucs.
From someone as illustrious as you, this is indeed a compliment.
69 - we nearly went bankrupt in 1905 - what happened…. did the railroad come through and bring money into the area just in time - PHEW.
You are without doubt the dullest dingle EVER to post on here - and thats some achievement given the opposition.
I usually scroll straight past your inane babble - but from now on you can make that “always”.
Reply with some typical mindless garbage if you must - I will be scrolling past - and I urge all other Albion fans to do the same.
Too many clowns on here now just after an argument. Dull Dull Dull Dull……
Bye eeeeeeeeee.
70. Burberry is for you tatters, got a bit more class than that. I’m not getting wound up at all, you lot keep biting and as for numties on here they don’t come much bigger than you.
71. You really are the most stupidest boggie i’ve ever come across, can you not read or do you read and understand what your tiny little brain wants you to understand, we never went bankrupt that is a FACT.
72. Stick to playing cowboys and indians because you are without a doubt one of lifes loser’s so go and chase buffalo, steptoe moron.
72. Please promise never to bore me again by replying to my post’s, I bought up your scrape with bankruptcy cos your fellow boggies were going on about wolves scrape with bankruptcy in the 80’s, who cares it’s in the past dead and buried so be a good little boggie and go do your homework.
