Merit Shield Final today and we won on penalties. 3-1.
West Hagley are such a great bunch and the manager’s of this team are proud of the girls. GOOD LUCK TO YOU IN THE LEAGUE CUP!!! xx
Withymoor battled so hard today to get through this.
We did dominate the match in the first half really. West Hagley’s goalie is superb and put lots of saves in.
2nd half and West Hagley seemed to have a second wind.
They did absolutely brill and they nearly scored especially at one point when Paige came out the goal area and had to run back to the goal.
Fortunately for us the ball went across the goal mouth!!!
Paige did superb in goal for us. All the girls voted Paige girl of the game because she wanted to play in goal for us. That’s a team player for you!!!
We had a few scrambles in the goal area and some shots but just couldn’t manage to get that ball into the net.
I wanted ALL the girls to have a game and share in the experience of the final. It’s only fair.
The whistle blew and score still 0-0. Extra time and just two and half mins each way!
I had to make sure that in these extra mins that I’d get the players on who were confident to take a penalty.
1. Fay
2. Jess
3. Isabel
4. Estelle
5. Paige
Scorers : Fay - Well taken penalty which hit the roof of the net!
Isabel : Powerful shot to the left side hit back of net with force!
Estelle : (My hands were over my eyes for this) I did peek a little and brilliant goal, taken so well. Didn’t know she had such power!!
Paige did some superb saves and did a grand job. She was the one who stopped West Hagley getting any further with her instant reaction to the shots.
If Paige wants to be our goalie then I’m glad but I would like her to play out as well to give her a break from it.
She dominates the goal area and is very confident in goal.
WELL DONE PAIGE!!!!
THANK YOU TO ALL OUR SUPPORTERS.
LOADS OF YOU BROUGHT YOUR EXTENDED FAMILIES TO SUPPORT THE GIRLS AND REALLY CHEERED THEM ALL ON. IT MAKES SUCH A DIFFERENCE WITH THE SUPPORT FROM YOU.
